More than 70 percent of the Usambara Mountain Range has been stripped of its forest, which is quite obvious. Substances farm plots dominate the steep slopes of the mountains, folded up on themselves like a bundle of curtains thrown into the laundry room. Metal roofs glint in the full sun, as they lime the ridges.

I leave Morogoro for Tanga and coachsurf at Saidi's place.
The next day i take a dala dala to Muheza. From there on a 30min motorbike drive takes up the Usambara mountains to Magoroto forest estate. A true hidden gem.
