In 2015, there was huge controversy when a section of a mound at the Uxbenka Archaeological Site was cleared by Rupert Myles, a resident of Santa Cruz Village. Because the site is sacred to the Mayas, Myles was asked to remove the house he had built on the mound. He didn’t, so the Maya tied him up and hell broke loose. Tonight, there is good news for the community because a visitor’s centre has been erected atop the mound and is now officially opened to the public. Marco Gonzalez Maya Site Hosts Summer Solstice Ceremony & Blessing of the Site
On the southern end of Ambergris Caye, Belize is a 2,000 year old Maya ruin that is still in the stages of excavation. Marco Gonzalez is the only On June 21, 2014 the summer solstice was celebrated with a ceremony and site blessing from Maya priest Martin Choc. 82 year old Choc traveled from the San Marcos Village in the southern district of Toledo, accompanied by his grandson to assist in translating, as Mr Choc only speaks Q'eqchi Mayan. Over 40 people attended the incense and candle burning ceremony, while flute and drum music was performed by legendary flutist Pablo Collado.
The Marco Gonzalez Maya Site is the first, and only National Reserve on an island in Belize.

Emmeth Young and the Talla Walla Band 2 - Belize drummers from Punta Gorda Town, Toledo-
This is at the Belize foundation for researchers and environmental education located in the Bladen Nature Reserve. Emmeth teaches young children how to play the drums and inspires them to be strong young adults in Belize. Not that great of lighting, but great drummers and fun to dance to!!

Also, to be truly historically accurate, I should have worn quilted armor, which may sound odd, but it was common in the Americas and the conquistadors quickly adopted it. Sure, their European plate armor was thick and heavy and provided excellent resistance against arrows and obsidian sword blades, but it was also incredibly uncomfortable in the tropical climate.
Mayan pyramid in Belize destroyed 'for gravel'
Officials in Belize say a construction company has destroyed one of the country's largest Mayan pyramids.
Head of the Belizean Institute of Archaeology Jaime Awe said the Noh Mul temple was levelled by a road-building company seeking gravel for road filler.
The Mayan temple dates back to pre-Columbian times and is estimated to be 2,300 year old. Only a small core of the pyramid was left standing.
Police said they were investigating the incident.
