Lao NEWS on LNTV: Luang Prabang People's Court recently sentences Mr Vilaysak to death,21/7/2014
VO Luang Prabang People's Court recently sentences Mr Vilaysak to death on charges of murdering his wife.
INTRO: Luang Prabang People's Court recently sentenced Mr Vilaysak, aged 38, a businessman from Phabardtai village, Luang Prabang district in Luang Prabang province to death on charges of murdering his wife. It is recorded that, Police arrested Mr Vilaysak, and charged him with murder and the illegal possession of firearms. The court later sentenced him to the ultimate penalty of death.
STORY: During the investigations Mr Vilaysak, confessed to police that he had a mistress named Ms Phuangmany, aged 20, of Viengxaymai village, Luang Prabang district, Luang Prabang province and that they had been seeing each other for a long time.
On the day he killed his wife he came from his mistress' room to his house and he and his wife got into a heated argument and he became angry and decided to kill her.
On waking into the bedroom he saw his wife taking drugs, so he took a scarf to strangle his wife and hang her from the roofing beam in the front bathroom.
After his wife had died he went to sleep leaving his son and daughter to discover the body later.
They then woke their father and told him, so to conceal the truth Mr Vilaysak sent his wife to the hospital but she was already dead.
Mr Vilaysak also confessed that he bought a gun from Mr Sonphet, aged 36, in Naluang village and Mr Saithong, aged 37, in Phonsy village, Luang Prabang district of Luang Prabang province .
Police arrested him and charged him with murder and the illegal possession of firearms. The court later sentenced him to the ultimate penalty of death.
They also arrested his mistress later and the two men who sold him the gun and referred them to the court for sentencing.
The court sentenced Ms Phuangmany to two years in prison and fined her two million kip for serving as a mistress to Mr Vilaysak.
Meanwhile Mr Sonphet and Mr Saithong were also sentenced to two years in prison and fined two million kip for the sale of illegal weapons.

INTRO: The year 2015 was a year of significant progress and innovation for the UXO sector in Laos, thanks to a new evidence-based survey method. The meeting also served as a platform to gauge support and capture feedback from UNDP's partners on the next phase of support to the UXO sector, as well as from the Lao government on the prospect of increased national ownership of the sector.
STORY: This information was revealed at the UXO project Board Meeting 2016, held on Tuesday in Vientiane, chaired by Minister to the Government Office, Bounheuang Douangphachanh and the United Nations Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative in Laos, Kaarina Immonen.
According to UNDP, despite much progress in 2015, millions of UXO is still thought to litter Laos' rural and remote communities. The hazards caused by UXO link to poverty levels, with the most contaminated districts in the country often also being among the poorest,
At the meeting, the new Five Year Sector Work Plan was presented by the NRA along with a recently-developed plan for completing a national cluster munitions survey by 2021.
The UNDP is working with partners to ensure the full implementation of the NRA and UXO Lao's Annual Work Plans for 2016, for which approximately US$2.2 million still needs to be committed.

Xiangkhouang (tiếng Lào: ຊຽງຂວາງ, nghĩa là Thành phố phía chân trời) là một tỉnh của Lào, nắm trên Cao nguyên Xiangkhouang, thuộc khu vực đông bắc của quốc gia. Trước đây là thủ phủ của Muang Phuan (Muang Phouan/Xieng Khouang), tỉnh lị hiện nay của tỉnh là Phonsavan.
Xuôi về phía Nam từ trung tâm thị trấn 30km, bạn đến với ngôi làng nhỏ có tên là Napia, những nghệ nhân ở đây biến những vỏ bom thời kháng chiến chống Mỹ thành sản phẩm gia dụng, phục vụ cho cuộc sống con người nơi đây.

In 2008, ADDP president Maejima came across a small village while visiting many villages affecting by UXO in Xieng khuang province in Laos. There, at the small village Madam Maejima met an 11-year-old La who was completely blind.
When La was 11, she was playing with her friends and the UXO accidentally exploded, the metal bomb fragment stabbed into her eyes, leaving her completely blind. Since becoming conscious again, La spent 3 years crying every day. Madam Maejima was torn by the agony the little girl had been through and suggested the girl if she would come to a blind school in Vientiane so that she could go back to study again. At that time, a young man, Mr. Keo, who was also blind, gently held La’s hands and kindly asked “you can study, you know, all you need to do is to learn braille language. Please come to the blind school where I’m studying”. The next month the little girl moved to Vientiane.
In Vientiane La met many friends with disabilities. La has also found her favorite sport, Goalball. Through Goalball, La made many friends and brought back her self-esteem and confidence. Now La is the center player actively participating in international competitions.
At the moment, La’s dream is “to become a teacher” and “participate in the Paralympic Games”.

Most heavily bombed place ever, with some random stone jars in Laos:
Phonsavan (Lao: ໂພນສະຫວັນ) (population 37,507)[1] is the new capital of Xieng Khouang Province, Laos. The name stands for hills of paradise.
Phonsavan is the provincial capital of Xieng Khouang province. The countryside is soon dominated by green hills and pine forests. Villages consist of colourful wooden houses. Cattle raising is one of the main agricultural activities and Hmong cowboys with brown and violet cowboy hats are a common sight. During Hmong New Year there are even bullfights in the city. Phonsavan was built in the late 1970s and replaced the old Xieng Khoung (today: Muang Khoun) which had been destroyed during the Second Indochina War. Phonsavan's most famous attraction is the nearby Plain of Jars, which has been nominated for UNESCO World Heritage status.[2] The main economic activity in Phonsavan is based on government administration, mining companies from China and Australia, tourism and the work of NGOs related to UXO clearance.
