BAKU,Old City,Walking Tour, AZERBAIJAN
Old City or Inner City (Azerbaijani: İçərişəhər) is the historical core of Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan. The Old City is the most ancient part of Baku, which is surrounded by walls which were easily defended. In 2007, the Old City had a population of about 3000 people.[4] In December 2000, the Old City of Baku, including the Palace of the Shirvanshahs and Maiden Tower, became the first location in Azerbaijan to be classified as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.It is widely accepted that the Old City, including its Maiden Tower, date at least to the 12th century, with some researchers contending that construction dates as far back as the 7th century. The question has not been completely settled.During this medieval period of Baku, such monuments as the Synyg Gala Minaret (11th century), the fortress walls and towers (11th–12th centuries), the Maiden Tower, the Multani Caravanserai and Hajji Gayyib bathhouse (15th century), the Palace of the Shirvanshahs (15th–16th centuries), the Bukhara Caravanserai and Gasimbey bathhouse (16th century) were built.
In 1806, when Baku was occupied by the Russian Empire during the Russo-Persian War (1804–13),[6] there were 500 households and 707 shops, and a population of 7,000 in the Old City (then the only neighbourhood of Baku) whom were almost all ethnic Tats.[7] Between 1807 and 1811, the city walls were repaired and the fortifications extended. The city had two gates: the Salyan Gates and the Shemakha Gates. The city was protected by dozens of cannons set on the walls. The port was re-opened for trade, and in 1809 a customs office was established.[8]
It was during this period that Baku started to extend beyond the city walls, and new neighbourhoods emerged. Thus the terms Inner City (Azerbaijani: İçəri Şəhər) and Outer City (Azerbaijani: Bayır Şəhər) came into use. Referring to the early Russian rule, Bakuvian actor Huseyngulu Sarabski wrote in his memoirs:

Baku:The Maiden Tower- Qız Qalası
The Maiden Tower (Azerbaijani: Qız Qalası) is a 12th century monument in the Old City, Baku, Azerbaijan. The Shirvanshahs' Palace, dated to the 15th century, it forms an ensemble of historic monuments inscribed in 2001 under the UNESCO World Heritage List of Historical Monuments as cultural property, Category III. It is one of Azerbaijan's most distinctive national emblems, and is thus featured on Azeri currency notes and official letterheads.
The Maiden Tower houses a museum, which presents the story of historic evolution of the Baku city. It also has a gift shop. The view from the roof takes in the alleys and minarets of the Old City, the Baku Boulevard, the De Gaulle house and a wide vista of the Baku Bay. In recent years, the brazier on the top has been lit during the nights of the Novruz festival.
Baku's Maiden Tower is a legendary place and world famous landmark in Baku, Republic of Azerbaijan. The Tower is covered by cloud of mysteries and legends which are rooted to the History of Azerbaijan and national Culture of Azerbaijan. The pool of tower's epics and legends is a part of Azerbaijan's culture and national heritage. Indeed, Some epics became a subject for scenario for ballets and theatre's plays. The Maiden Tower (ballet) is a world class Azerbaijani ballet created by Afrasiyab Badalbeyli in 1940 and ballet's remake was performed in 1999.
Consequent to the receding of the sea shore line of the Caspian Sea, a strip of land emerged. This land was developed between the 9th and 15th centuries, when the walls of the old city, the palace including the huge bastion of the Maiden Tower were built.
Why Baku's Tower is named as the Maiden Tower?
M.Khalifa-zadeh believes that except of legendary background, until now, it is difficult to find historical explanation or archaeological and written evidences that why the tower is named as the Maiden tower. In addition to epical backgrounds, it is believable that the word maiden means that the tower/temple was not destroyed by any enemy that means (from the religious viewpoint) that it was never desecrate (touched) by evil (Ahriman, Angra Mainyu) and stills to be virgin (untouched) or maiden temple-tower of God of Ahura Mazda..Wikipedia

Paytaxt Bakıda “şahmat” avtobusları fəaliyyətə başlayıb.
CBC xəbər verir ki, Mədəniyyət və Turizm Nazirliyinin balansında olan iki turistik avtobus brendləşdirərək, “şahmat” avtobusu kimi şəhər sakinlərinin və qonaqların ixtiyarına verilib.
Bakı Şahmat Olimpiadası Əməliyyat Komitəsinin direktoru Mahir Məmmədov sözügedən avtobuslar barədə CBC-yə məlumat verib: “Avtobusun ikinci mərtəbəsində masalarda şahmat lövhələri quraşdırılıb. Arzu edən hər kəs avtobusa daxil olub şahmat oynaya və Bakının gözəlliklərindən həzz ala bilər. Şahmat olimpiadasına lap az qalıb. Hazırlıqlar yekun mərhələyə qədəm qoyub”.
Şahmat avtobusu ilə paralel olaraq, Paytaxtın şəhər sakinlərinin və turistlərin sıx olduğu yerlərində Şahmat Olimpiadasının talismanı Şahoğlan da tanıtımla məşğuldur.

Azerbaijan - European Charm of the Orient (tourism video) HD
Today, we would like to talk about a miraculous country of Azerbaijan with its unlimited natural resources, centuries-old culture, history and ancient people, whose lifestyle presents a unique and harmonious combination of the traditions and ceremonies of different cultures and civilizations.
Azerbaijan is a geographical name. On the one hand this name is linked with the population, which lived in this region for thousand of years before our era, and who were mostly fire-worshippers. Local population considered that fire was their God and so they worshipped the fire. Azer means fire. The Turkic name Azer was used for this territory for a long time. The word Azer consists of two parts - az and er. In Turkic languages, az means a good intention and a fate of success. Thus, the word Azer means a brave man, a brave boy, the fire keeper. The word Azerbaijan originates from the name of an ancient Turkish tribe, who resided in those territories.
Azerbaijan is one of the most ancient sites of humankind. The humankind was present here at every stage of their historical development. There were living settlements in Azerbaijan even at the earliest stages of humankind. Azerbaijan made its own contribution into the establishment of the current culture and civilization, progress and dialectics.
The time kept a range of ancient archeological and architectural monuments for us. The ancient headstones, manuscripts and models of carpets, preserved to the present times from the ancient ages, can provide much information to those who can and want to read them. If you wish to understand Azerbaijan and to know everything about it, you need to look at this country and its people with a friend's eyes.
Azerbaijan is a country of ancient culture. The Oguz tribes which moved here and stayed for ages, have found a deeply rooted culture and in their turn enriched it with Turkic national traditions. The talented and creative powers of our nation are personified in such epic monuments as Kitabi-Dede Gorgud, Oguzname Keroglu and many others.
This fertile, generous and friendly land was the home of many thinkers, philosophers, scientists, poets, architects, musicians and artists. A legend tells that Zardusht was born in this land. Azerbaijan also enriched the humankind with such geniuses as Nizami Ganjevi, Hagani Shirvani, Bahmanyar, Nasimi, Fizuli, Nasreddin Tusi, Shah Ismail Xatai, Mullah Paneh Vagif, A. Bakikhanov, M.F. Axudov, M.A. Sabir, J.Mamedguluzade, Huseyn Javid, J.Jabarli, Samed Vurgun, Aliaga Vahid, Rasul Rza.
The country of Azerbaijan was immortalized by such talented painters as Sattar Bahlulzade, Tahir Salahov, Togrul Narimanbeyov, Mikayil Abdullayev and many others.
Our national music - mugam - inspired such outstanding composers as Uzeyir Hajibeyov, Muslim Magomayev, Gara Garayev, Fikret Amirov, Niyazi, Arif Melikov and others to create their masterpieces, which are still known today throughout the world. It also gave the inspiration to such wonderful vocalists as Bulbul and Rashid Behbudov.
It seems that the famous Azerbaijan carpets are the incarnation of all colors of nature and of all signs of history. Today, these carpets magically pass the borders of time and space and travel from Azerbaijan to foreign countries far away.

EPISODE 2 OF UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE SITES ????️ : ???????? BAKU OLD TOWN, AZERBAIJAN | A NEW UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE SITES EPISODE FROM AROUND THE WORLD EVERY WEDNESDAY
Built on a site inhabited since the Palaeolithic period, the Walled City of Baku reveals evidence of Zoroastrian, Sasanian, Arabic, Persian, Shirvani, Ottoman, and Russian presence in cultural continuity.
The Inner City (Icheri Sheher) has preserved much of its 12th-century defensive walls. The 12th-century Maiden Tower (Giz Galasy) is built over earlier structures dating from the 7th to 6th centuries BC, and the 15th-century Shirvanshahs' Palace is one of the pearls of Azerbaijan's architecture.
Rising from the south shore of the Apsheron Peninsular at the western edge of the Caspian Sea, the Walled City of Baku was founded on a site inhabited since the Palaeolithic period. The city reveals, along with the dominant Azerbaijani element, evidence of Zoroastrian, Sassanian, Arabic, Persian, Shirvani, Ottoman, and Russian presence in cultural continuity.
The inner city (Icherisheher) has preserved much of its 12th-century defensive walls, which define the character of the property. The most ancient monument of Icherisheher is the Maiden Tower – symbol of the city of Baku. Some evidence suggests that the construction of the Tower might have been as early as the 7th-6th centuries BC. Another monument of universal value, one of the pearls of Azerbaijan's architecture is the 12th- to 15th-century Shirvanshahs' Palace, located at the highest point of Icherisheher.
Within the Palace complex are the Divankhana (reception hall) or, as some researchers believe, the Tomb of Shah, the residential building of Shirvanshahs, the remains of Key-Kubad Mosque, the Tomb of Seyid Yahya Bakuvi, Murad’s Gate (the only monument of the 16th century), the Tomb of Shirvanshahs’ Family, the Shah Mosque and the Palace bath-house. Earlier monuments of Icherisheher include the Mohammed Mosque, together with the adjacent minaret built in 1078, and remains of the 9th- to 10th-century mosque near the Maiden Tower.
There are also numerous historical-architectural monuments of the medieval period such as caravanserais, hamams (bath-houses), mosques and residential buildings of the 18th to 20th centuries located within the property.
The magnificence of Icherisheher lies in the combination of its distinct architectural monuments and its historically composed architectural spatial planning with original street views, which have merged into a single entity to reflect its long history and the melding of cultures that have influenced its development over the past nine centuries. Icherisheher is still a living, vibrant city with residential areas housing local communities.

AZERBAIJAN, Baku - Maiden Tower (agosto 2016)
Şirvanşahlar kolleksiyasının hazırlanma prosesi/Preparation of Shirvanshahs' Collection
Dastan brendinin yeni “Şirvanşahlar” kolleksiyası qüdrətli tarixi Şirvanşahlar dövlətinin mədəniyyətini bütün əzəməti ilə özündə əks etdirir. Azərbaycan tarixində ən çox hökm sürən sülalələrdən biri olan Şirvanşahlar incəsənətə böyük təsir göstərib. Onların hakimiyyəti dövründə yaradılan memarlıq abidələri, daş oymalar, xalçaçılıq, zərgərlik və digər incəsənət nümunələri özünəməxsusluğu ilə seçilir. Əsas məqsədi Azərbaycanın zəngin tarixi və mədəni irsini təbliğ etməklə, müasir zövqün tələblərinə cavab verən sənət nümunələri yaratmaq olan gənc dizaynerlər kolleksiya üzərində işləyərkən qədim dövlətin zəngin mədəni irsindən bəhrələniblər. Vahid bir konsepsiya üzərində qurulan kolleksiya taxta, zərgərlik, keramika və batika kimi dekorativ-tətbiqi sənət sahələrini əhatə edən sənətkarlıq nümunələrindən ibarətdir. Əsas ilham mənbəyi olaraq Şirvanşahlar Saray Kompleksi
memarlıq abidəsinin zəngin interyer və eksteryer dizaynları, nəbati və həndəsi naxışlar, kufi yazıları, eləcə də həmin dövrdə tikilən Bayıl qəsrinin daş pannoları üzərindəki antropomorf və zoomorf təsvirlər, həmçinin Şirvanşahlar dövlətinin dövlət atributlarında əks olunan simvolik təsvirlər seçilib. Kolleksiya “Divanxana” (batika),
“Saray” (keramika, taxta), “Şirvanşah” (zərgərlik), “Aslan və öküz” (zərgərlik, keramika), “Səbayıl” (taxta) seriyalarından ibarətdir. Beləliklə, IX-XVI əsrlərə aid mədəni irs qədim sənətkarlıq texnikalarının köməyi ilə “Şirvanşahlar” kolleksiyasında tam müxtəlifliyi ilə əks olunub.
The new Shirvanshah Collection from the Icherisheher Centre of Traditional Arts reflects the culture of the powerful, historical Shirvanshahs with all of their grandeur. The Shirvanshahs, who were one of the longest reigning dynasties in Azerbaijan history, had great influence on the arts. The architectural monuments, stone carvings, carpets, jewellery and other artworks created during this period are distinguished by their originality. While working on this Collection, the young designers strove to create designs to meet contemporary taste through propagating the rich historical and cultural heritage of Azerbaijan. They have been inspired by the rich cultural heritage of our ancient state. The Collection is based upon a unified concept and consists of decoartive pieces from the applied crafts such as wood, jewellery, ceramics and batik textiles. Rich interior and exterior designs with biomorphic and geometric patterns, kufic inscriptions seen on
the architectural monument of the Complex of the Shirvanshahs’ Palace, antromorphic and zoomorphic images on the stone panels of Bayil Castle, as well as symbolic images described on the state emblems of the Shirvanshah were chosen as sources of inspiration. The Collection includes the lines ‘Divankhana’ (batik), ‘Saray’ (ceramics, wood), ‘Shirvanshah’ (jewellery), ‘Aslan va
Öküz’ (jewellery, ceramics) and ‘Sabayil’ (wood). The Azerbaijani cultural heritage of the IX-XVI centuries has been reflected in the Shirvanshah Collection.
