Vaitarna Dam | Thane Modaksagar Dam of Maharashtra - India

The Vaitarna Dam also called Modak Sagar Dam. The Dam was Built by British Military Engineer lowsone in 1701 who died during its tunnel construction. was renovated in 1954 during the nehru tenure by Bmc engineer Narayan Modakand hence named after him. before him the dam was renovated trice.

The dam built across the vaitarna river is divided into three parts the upper vaitarna dam, middle vaitarna dam and lower vaitarna dam. The lower Vaitarna Dam, also called Modaksagar Dam, is a gravity dam on Vaitarna river, and upper vaitarna dam is scenic dam site, situated at a distance of about 20 kms from khodala in thane district near mumbai. Vaitarna Lake is one of the best sweet water lakes of Mumbai. It is the chief source of water and electricity to the mumbai city. it will supply 455 million liters of drinking water everyday to thane and mumbai city.

Upper Vaitarna , Igatpuri | Camping | Drone Shots

Vaitarna Lake is also called as upper Vaitarna portion, It is an earth fill and gravity dam on west flowing Vaitarna river near Igatpuri, Nashik district of Maharashtra state. the reservoir is created by this dam spreads on both Vaitarna and Godavari rivers catchment area. Vaitarna dam is one of the main Municipal water supply to Mumbai City.This place is rarely visited by tourists and it is surrounded by mountains and small  small villages consisting of 8-15 houses per village. A camping trip with such beautiful surrounding and delicious food we had.

Vaitarna Dam | Monsoon

Vaitarna Dam is a nice place for hangout with family and friends it is 30-40 km away from Nashik city one of the best places to visit in the rainy season. Public transportation is available up to the village but our own vehicle is really helpful if you have. Really nice view to spend time with your own, one of the peaceful place near Nashik. Also, Trimbkeshwar is near to the Vaitrana dam.

The horizon literally has the dam water and clouds meeting each other. Nice weather. Great place to visit during Monsoon. Worth the long drive from City.

Located in the district of Nashik in Maharashtra, Igatpuri is nestled between the lush greenery of the Western Ghats. The pleasant climate, quaint old fort, waterfalls and majestic mountains make Igatpuri an ideal place for a relaxed vacation. The beauty of this place increases many folds during monsoon when its dense forest becomes greener and the waterfalls get revived. Igatpuri attracts nature lovers and trekkers. With many forts in the surrounding region, it is a paradise for hikers and trekkers.
Vaitarna dam or the Upper Vaitarnna dam is constructed across the Vaitarna River. This gravity and earthfill dam is a famous tourist attraction. The dam was built in the early 50’s and is the main source of water and electricity for several parts of Mumbai. It offers a stunning view of the surrounding area and the Western Ghats. Surrounded by dense forest, quaint lagoon near dam is a must visit place in Igatpuri. You can visit this dam on all days of the week from 9 am to 4 pm.

This was a much awaited bike trip.

The Vaitarna Lake is a must visit place situated in the city Nashik in the state of Maharashtra. It is located roughly about 100 kms away from Mumbai city.

These are just some drone shots of the visit to this huge lake. This was my first time visiting this lake and I had not clue it was so huge and such a beautiful and clean lake

The Vaitarna Lake is a quite Camp site that offer a water front for water activities as well.

Kayaking and Camping at Upper Vaitarna Dam

I've been a traveler for a while and have a special place for water bodies in my heart. Everytime I saw an island I wondered of putting up a tent there and camping. As time passed by this feeling became very intense and just recently I bought my very own Kayak. Today I drove down to Vaiterna reservoir which is around 130km from Mumbai with @Samprati and @Divya to unbox the kayak. Added another feather to my traveler's hat and the experience cannot be expressed.
