Shree Brajeshwari Devi Mandir | Shaktipeeth - Kangra | Indian Temple Tours
The temple of Vajreshvari is located in the town of Nagarkot, Kangra district, Himachal Pradesh, India
The original temple was built by the Pandavas at the time of Mahabharatha. Legend says that one day Pandavas saw Goddess Durga in their dream in which she told them that she is situated in the Nagarkot village and if they want them self to be secure they should make a temple for her in that area otherwise they will be destroyed. That same night they made a magnificent temple for her in the Nagarkot village. This temple was looted a number of time by the Muslim invaders. Md Gaznavi looted this temple at least 5 times, in the past it used to contain tonnes of gold and many ghantas made of pure silver. In 1905 the temple was destroyed by a powerful earthquake and was subsequently rebuilt by the government.

The famous Bajreshwari Temple, also known as the Vagreshwari Devi Temple, is located in the heart of the town. It happens to be the most visited Hindu shrine in the district. Kangra town in Himachal Pradesh is an important pilgrimage destination. It is a hub of several ancient temples with distinct architectural styles. You can see many shrines here built in the typical north Indian Nagara style of architecture (pagoda style). Bajreshwari Temple is one of the 51 shaktipeeth (holy places where parts of Sati's body fell). It is said to have been founded by the goddess Bajreshwari herself during an Ashwamedha (horse sacrifice) held at the spot. The temple suffered many times at the hands of invaders. Mehmood of Ghazni destroyed it and built a mosque on its ruins. However, the temple was restored, though it was severely damaged again by an earthquake in 1905. Bajreshwari Temple had a facelift in 1920 and was restored to its former glory.
LEGEND OF BAJRESHWARI DEVI TEMPLE : Located in the old Kangra Township of the state of Himachal Pradesh, the Bajreshwari Devi Temple was built over the charred breasts of Sati. This shrine was renowned for its great wealth. Over the ages it has been plundered relentlessly. Mahmud of Ghazni was the first plunderer. He looted it in 1009. A mosque was built on the ruins and a garrison was left behind. After long thirty-five years, the local King regained its possession. The shrine was repaired and a replica of the idol was enshrined. The temple was filled with gold, silver and diamonds. In 1360, Firoz Shah Tughlaq again ransacked it. Later Emperor Akbar visited the temple with his Dewan, Toder Mal and restored its former grandeur. An earthquake in 1905 annihilated the temple but a new temple was raised on the same year.
The deity here is Mata Shri Bajreswari Devi also known as 'kul devi' by the locals.

The Kangra town known to the ancients as Nagarkot, is the seat of Shri Bajreshwari Devi or vajreshwari Devi or Brajeshwari Devi. Known once for its legendary wealth this temple was raided by various invaders from the north. One of the most revered shrines in Chamba, Vajreshwari Temple is dedicated to Devi Vajreshwari, the Goddess of Lightening. It has also been built as per the Shikhara style of architecture. A legend says that after Goddess Sati sacrificed herself in the honor of Lord Shiva in her father's Yagya. Shiva took her body on his shoulder and started Tandav. In order to stop him from destroying the world Lord Vishnu divided the body of Sati into 51 parts with his Chakra. The left breast of Sati fell at this spot, thus making it a Shakti Peetha.

मां ब्रजेश्वरी देवी- कांगड़ा का इतिहास || आप भी जानें ||
The Shree Vajreshwari Mata Mandir also known as Kangra Devi Mandir is a Hindu temple dedicated to the goddess Vajreshvari, a form of Durga located in the town Kangra, in Himachal Pradesh, India.
(The only temple in North India of Lord Kartikay)
Kartik Swami, Rudraprayag, Uttarakhand (
Kartik Swami temple is located near Kanak Chauri village on Rudraprayag – Pokhari route in the Rudraprayag district of Uttarakhand. A mild 3k trek from Kanak Chauri village takes you to the stunning beauty of Kartik Swami temple.
Kartik Swami temple is dedicated to the elder son of Lord Shiva, Kartikeya, who offered his bones as testimony of his devotion to his father. It is believed that the incident took place here. Lord Kartik Swami is also known as Kartik Murugan Swami in the southern part of India.
A constant sound from hundreds of bell hung in the temple can be heard at a distance of about 800 metres from there. A flight of 80 stairs from the main road leads you to the garbhagriha of the temple or the place where the idol is kept.
Sandhya Aarti or evening prayers, enchantment of mantras and Maha-bhandara or grand feast organised at the temple occasionally is a special attraction for devotees and tourists.
The Mythology
According to Hindu mythology, Lord Shiva (the destroyer) told his sons Ganesha and Kartikeya that one of them, who will be the first to take seven rounds of the universe will have the privilege of being worshiped first.
Ganesha took seven rounds around Shiva and Parvati, while Kartikeya faithfully circled the universe. Impressed by Ganesha, Shiva gave him the honour of being worshipped before anyone. Angered by this, Kartikeya sacrificed his body and gave his bones to Lord Shiva as reverence.
Getting There
The best way to reach Kartik Swami is to board a bus from Haridwar/Rishikesh to Rudraprayag. Kartik Swami temple is only 40kms from Rudraprayag on Rudraprayag - Pokhari route. You can hire a taxi from Rudraprayag or take a shared one.

In June 2013, a multi-day cloudburst centered on the North Indian state of Uttarakhand caused devastating floods and landslides in the country's worst natural disaster since the 2004 tsunami. Though parts of Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh in India, some regions of Western Nepal, and some parts of Western Tibet also experienced heavy rainfall, over 95% of the casualties occurred in Uttarakhand. As of 16 July 2013, according to figures provided by the Uttarakhand government, more than 5,700 people were presumed dead. This total included 934 local residents.
Destruction of bridges and roads left about 100,000 pilgrims and tourists trapped in the valleys leading to three of the four Hindu Chota Char Dham pilgrimage sites. The Indian Air Force, the Army and paramilitary troops evacuated more than 110,000 people from the flood ravaged area.
