Vincent Van Gogh Art Trail in Arles, France
Vincent Van Gogh painted many canvases in Arles and today you can follow in his footsteps around an art trail. Where he sat for many of these paintings is a replica of his work. Most are very well known. Background music is Seeger by John Deley and the 41 Players.
Arles, France walking tour
Arles is most famous for its Roman amphitheater, still intact, and its connections with Van Gogh, who spent one of his final years here painting 200 canvases. Its real appeal, however, is found in the lovely pedestrian promenades, historic landmarks, museums and tranquil plazas, all of which make Arles one of the most charming places in Europe. We also take you to the huge outdoor food market on Saturday mornings.

There's a lot of these narrow streets in Arles, there is a small pedestrian zone, there's the various squares and the cafés around it, of course, and historic sites. And we will be showing you those highlights coming up right now as we take a walk through Arles.
The old town of Arles is comfortably small. It's about a square mile. So it's very easy to see the whole thing on foot. You might consider spending a couple of days here.
Or you could visit as a daytrip for example from Avignon which is just 20 miles away and only takes 20 minutes by train to get here. In this program we will show you how you can do everything in one day but certainly if you want to spend more time you decide for yourself. To help you plan your visit we will also present more detailed suggestions about how you could spend a night or two here and still find lots to do.
This is part of a series we’re presenting showing how Avignon makes a very good home base for visiting out to other destinations like Pont du Gard, and St Remy and Nimes along with Aix and Marseille, and especially Arles, the wonderful city of van Gogh and the ancient Romans, with narrow pedestrian lanes weaving throughout the center
The main attractions are the arena, the pedestrian zone and a historic museum. We will show you a good walking route on the map. Of course you can walk anywhere you want, it’s small enough, but this route will take you right through the center and then back to the train station, a route just over 2 miles, or about 3 kilometers, you can do in several hours. But you should also see the history museum while you're here, with its fine collection from the ancient Roman days, an easy detour. So let's assume you're coming in from Avignon on a day trip and you want to see everything.

Vincent van Gogh’s Turning Points: Van Gogh in Arles I: Town, Fields, and Gardens
John Walsh
Friday, April 5, 2019, 1:30 pm
Seeking freedom from the anxieties of the city and looking for a quiet life of warmth and joy, van Gogh moved south to Provence in 1888. Walsh shows how the artist spent his time in the city of Arles exploring the town, creating a home and workplace, and roving the surrounding flat land, struck by its similarities to his native country. He drew and painted landscapes, adapting his newly acquired colorful brushwork to the strong visual contrasts and hot southern sun.
Generously sponsored by the John Walsh Lecture and Education Fund and the Martin A. Ryerson Lectureship Fund.
Note: This lecture is the third in the series Vincent van Gogh’s Turning Points.

Places to see in ( Arles - France ) Espace Van Gogh
The Espace van Gogh was originally built in the sixteenth century as Arles main hospital and it remained as such well into the twentieth. It's major claim to fame is that it was here that Van Gogh was committed after the infamous episode of cutting off his left earlobe in December 1888. The courtyard has been extensively planted out to resemble as closely as possible his famous painting Le Jardin de l'Hôtel de Dieu. The complex now houses the town library as well as exhibition spaces, a series of souvenir shops and a cafe.
Vincent Van Gogh was strongly inspired by Arles where he made more than 300 drawings and paintings between February 1881 and May 1889. Van Gogh space is installed in the hotel God built in the sixteenth century and seventeenth century. The quadrilateral opened on an interior garden worked as a hospital, Van Gogh stays there and represents it in several of his paintings, until the 1980s. The Van Gogh space is a cultural center that proposes temporary exhibitions and animations around Van Gogh and the art world. The building also hosts the media library of the city. Come and discover the former Hotel Dieu and the gardens in free access and visit an exhibition at the cultural center.
Installed in the former Hôtel-Dieu, Van Gogh's Espace and the media library are a peaceful and charming place, a cloister-garden, where flowerbeds are arranged in a star around a pool. And why this name Van Gogh? Well, because it is here, at the former Hotel Dieu d'Arles, that Vincent Van Gogh was treated in 1889. He painted the cloister and the flower beds on a painting today kept in Switzerland , in Winterthur. That said, a reproduction is placed flush with the flowers, in the gallery of the cloister on the left when entering. And you can see how the cloister was restored inspired by the painting of Van Gogh.
( Arles - France ) is well know as a tourist destination because of the variety of places you can enjoy while you are visiting Arles . Through a series of videos we will try to show you recommended places to visit in Arles - France

Van Gogh -- Hospital -- Arles, France
Vincent Van Gogh was here in this charity hospital in Arles, France in the 19th c. due to his ear cutting thing and also because his neighbors signed a petition asking him to be hospitalized.
This is a very short clip because three tour groups showed up while I was recording this.
There isn't much to see at this particular place but you can drop in and have a look. There is a huge tourist shop adjacent which sells all kinds of Vincent Van Gogh items, from the cheap to the high quality. You could get a silly 3-D postcard here, a refrigerator magnet, or a shopping bag here, but you could also buy a quality silk scarf, fine ceramics and genuine Flemish tapestries, so I am no knocking it!
Arles is in the Bouche-du-Rhône département in France in Provence, not far from the Mediterranean sea. You can still see Roman ruins all over the place and usually, the sun is warm and bright and the colors are lovely and have inspired many, many artists.
I rented a house at 24, rue Renan by the Roman arena where bullfights and events are still held, for a fun week. This is a city of personality and is the largest commune in France.
Camargue has rice fields, those white-grey horses, and the mistral, a wild wind. If you are thinking of a city in France to visit, I could easily recommend Arles. I suggest it for a week.

Arles, France 4 eve stroll
Arles, in Provence, France, evening stroll. The streets are bustling late in the afternoon in Arles, in Provence, in the south of France. You'll see lots of friendly folks out here in the streets of Arles in the evening. It's a great time to be out for a stroll. The weather is nice, the lights are on, the daylight is still lingering in the twilight sky beyond, and it's just a perfect time for the evening stroll. We're in the south of France, and they do observe the siesta, so many of the shops are closed between 1 PM and 3 PM, and then they reopen until about 8 PM in the evening. We photographed this program during the month of November, which as it turns out is a great time to visit the south of France. The weather was cool, but not cold and the town's sights were never crowded, but everything was open, so you can fit in like a local.

Arles, France 6 am stroll
Arles, in Provence, in the south of France. We enjoy another morning stroll, hanging out in Place Voltaire, a charming spot to watch the day begin, with its little tree-shaded square in the center surrounded by lovely old buildings. A couple of cafés and small food shops are open, but nothing much else is happening. La Giraudière opens later, serving tasty lunch and dinner. You'll see a few people on their way to work or school, but this village square is fairly quiet at this hour. There are several nice little two-star hotels located around the plaza in this part of town with reasonable rates, including Gaughin, Voltaire and Mirador. Walk a few hundred yards west to the ancient Roman Baths of Constantine, built in the 4th century, which you can appreciate from the outside, saving time and money, while enjoying a view of the Rhône River.

When you pass the alley, you meet unexpected scenery. Italy It is a big amphitheater which can be seen in Rome. It was a city that flourished enough to be called Rome of Gaul, the Roman Empire period, so that it is easy to find Roman ruins here. Van Gogh's eyes can be found here too. Like this, Arl travelers can enjoy the 'Van Gogh Walking Tour' which follows Van Gogh's works. The last place I found was Van Gogh Cafe. It is a place where Van Gogh painted 'Cafe terrace of the night'. Following the painter's eyes, they sit down here with a yellow inspiration and a cup of coffee, ending the journey of Arl, where Van Gogh's frustrations crossed.

Travel Arles, France - Visit Arles Amphitheatre
Take a tour of the Roman built Arles Amphitheatre in Arles, France -- part of the World's Greatest Attractions series by GeoBeats.
Hi, I'm Naomi and I'm very excited to show you the world's greatest attractions.
In the midst of the small town of Arles, France is an unexpected taste of Rome.
The Amphitheatre has been a central part of the town for over 2,000 years.
In Roman times, it was the scene of gladiator battles, races and other sporting events.
In the medieval ages, the Amphitheatre became a fortress, and a small town grew within it.
In the early 1800's, this amazing and ancient structure was restored to its former state.
The Amphitheatre is a marvel of antiquity, well worth the trip.
