CHIANG MAI SCOOTER DAY TRIP - SAMOENG LOOP | Thailand Travel Vlog 051, 2017
This was such an epic day, it's now firmly on our list of favourite things to do in Chiang Mai. We hired scooters and drove the Samoeng Loop through the Mae Savalley, also known as the Mae Sa Loop - its always a popular choice on blogs for what to do in Chiang Mai and the various places on the trip. Basically its a scooter mission, or motorbike rental mission, around the Mae Sa Valley mountains and Samoeng area surrounding Chiang Mai - and you definitely should do it!

762 Curves to Pai - After hiring a scooter from Chiang Mai, we left from Chiang Mai (to return after 8 days covering close to 1000 kilometers). Chiang Mai to Pai Road is famous, rather notorious for its 762 sharp curves. On our bike trip across Mae Hong Son loop, this was the toughest route. We visited Bua Tong Sticky Waterfalls and Mork Fa Waterfall on the way while we also spent a day at Chiang Dao

How to rent a scooter in Chiang Mai :
It coasted me 250 Bahts (6,50 Euros / 7,50 USD) per day with an insurance that doesn't cover much (the insurance was an extra 50). I only had to bring my passport & a little bit of money, they didn't ask for my drivers licence (which I have)... You're supposed to drive with your international drivers licence (which I also have) and it's apparently better if you avoid the main roads because cops might try to scam you. Other than that, getting a scooter is quite easy :)

Motorcycle Road Trip In Northern Thailand, Day 1: Exploring Chiang Dao Caves
Today Brock and I headed to the Chiang Rai Loop via motorcycle. We traveled into the Northern area of Thailand around the border of Myanmar and stopped at the Chiang Dao Caves. It is approximately an hour motorcycle ride from Chiang Mai. You can do the ride on scooters but it is much more enjoyable on a full size motorcycle. After the Chiang Dao we headed to the Angkhang Nature Resort for a lovely meal in time to escape a thunderstorm. If you're traveling on a budget Ankhang Nature Resort is an excellent value at approximately $20 a night per person. While it might not be the most budget friendly the accommodations and free breakfast make it a solid value.
