ZAMBIA/ZIMBABWE: EXPLORING VICTORIA FALLS BRIDGE: The FALLS, RAINBOWS & bungee jumping ????
SUBSCRIBE: - Let's visit the magnificent Victoria Falls Bridge which crosses the Zambezi River just below the Victoria Falls and is built over the Second Gorge of the falls. As the river is the border between Zimbabwe and Zambia, the bridge links the two countries and has border posts on the approaches to both ends, at the towns of Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe and Livingstone, Zambia.
Victoria Falls is one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World and the major waterfall on the Zambezi River in Africa. It is famous for being the largest waterfall in the world, in the wet season. The African people who live around the falls call it Mosi-oa-Tunya which means smoke that thunders.
Zambia, in southern Africa, is a landlocked country of rugged terrain and diverse wildlife, with many parks and safari areas. On its border with Zimbabwe is famed Victoria Falls – indigenously called Mosi-oa-Tunya, or Smoke That Thunders” – plunging a misty 108m into narrow Batoka Gorge. Spanning the Zambezi River just below the falls is Victoria Falls Bridge, a spectacular viewpoint.
Zimbabwe is a landlocked country in southern Africa known for its dramatic landscape and diverse wildlife, much of it within parks, reserves and safari areas. On the Zambezi River, Victoria Falls make a thundering 108m drop into narrow Batoka Gorge, where there’s white-water rafting and bungee-jumping. Downstream are Matusadona and Mana Pools national parks, home to hippos, rhinos and birdlife.

A walk from Zimbabwe to Zambia, at Victoria Falls
Zimbabwe and Zambia are connected by a hundred-year-old bridge spanning a gorge over the Zambezi River, near the famous Victoria Falls. In September 2014, I walked across the bridge with my video camera. This film shows some of what I saw, heard, and learned along the way.

Pair complete daring slackline crossing of Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe
Two professional slackline walkers have successfully made it across the Victoria Falls on the Zambia-Zimbabwe border after two years spent in training
Two men have became the first to cross the vertigo-inducing Victoria Falls gorge in Zimbabwe, Africa, using a slackline slung across the face of the spectacular falls, known locally as ''the smoke that thunders''.
Student Lukas Irmler, 26, from Germany, and his slackline partner, 34-year-old journalist Reinhard Kleindl from Austria, rank among the best of their sport.
The two slackline professionals spent two years working towards the crossing.
The first challenge of their highline project was to bridge the 100-metre wide gorge, which they managed with a lead weight, a fishing line and a big slingshot.
Kleindl was first to step out on the highline after a coin toss between the two friends.
As he wobbled through the heavy spray and downwash of the Victoria Falls, it became apparent how tough the conditions were. The 'slack' line was pushed by the wind and spray impaired his vision, but the Austrian, who was wearing a safety harness, managed to cross the line after a few tries.
Lukas Irmler followed, successfully crossing the line in both directions, and even performing a balancing trick as he enjoyed the breathtaking view high above the canyon.

That time we jumped from Victoria Falls Bridge - Zimbabwe/Zambia
In 1905 the Victoria Falls Bridge was built to span over the Zambezi River in an effort to connect Africa from Cape Town to Cairo by rail. Today that same bridge is a destination for thrill seekers. There you can bungee jump, bungee swing, or zipline with the nothing but the Zambezi river below you.
On our trip to Zimbabwe it was an absoluter must do for us. Jessica was hesitant about the jump so we decided to do it together! It was an adrenaline rush we won't soon forget!

Zimbabwe - Garratt over the Victoria Falls Bridge (1), July 2017
On 16th July 2017, Class 15A Garratt number 414 headed a chartered freight over the world famous Victoria Falls bridge over the Zambezi river between Zimbabwe and Zambia (formerly Southern and Northern Rhodesia). The Victoria Falls themselves are one of the wonders of the world and are quite breath taking to view. The walk across the bridge is an experience never to forget too. I was lucky to have a beautiful rainbow, courtesy of the falls, and a cheeky monkey briefly considered making a grab for my video equipment before the Garratt made its appearance !

Victoria Falls Bridge, Victoria Falls National Park, Zimbabwe, Africa
The Victoria Falls Bridge crosses the Zambezi River just below the Victoria Falls and is built over the Second Gorge of the falls. As the river is the border between Zimbabwe and Zambia, the bridge links the two countries and has border posts on the approaches to both ends, at the towns of Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe and Livingstone, Zambia. The bridge was the brainchild of Cecil Rhodes, part of his grand and unfulfilled Cape to Cairo railway scheme, even though he never visited the falls and died before construction of the bridge began. Rhodes is recorded as instructing the engineers to build the bridge across the Zambezi where the trains, as they pass, will catch the spray of the Falls. It was designed by George Anthony Hobson of consultants Sir Douglas Fox and Partners, not as is often stated, Sir Ralph Freeman, the same engineer who contributed to the design of the Sydney Harbour Bridge. At the time of the design of the Victoria Falls Bridge, Freeman was an assistant in the firm who, in those pre-computer days, was calculating stresses. The bridge was constructed in England by the Cleveland Bridge & Engineering Company, before being shipped to the Mozambique port of Beira and then transported on the newly constructed railway to the Victoria Falls. It took just 14 months to construct and was completed in 1905. The bridge was officially opened by Professor George Darwin, son of Charles Darwin and President of the British Association (now the Royal Society) on 12 September 1905. The American Society of Civil Engineers lists the bridge as a Historic Civil Engineering Landmark. Constructed from steel, the bridge is 198 metres (650 ft) long, with a main arch spanning 156.50 metres (513.5 ft), at a height of 128 metres (420 ft) above the lower water mark of the river in the gorge below. It carries a road, railway and footway. The bridge is the only rail link between Zambia and Zimbabwe and one of only three road links between the two countries. The Victoria Falls Bridge did not bring the first train or the first railway to Zambia. In order to push on with construction of the railway north as fast as possible, Cecil Rhodes insisted that the Livingstone to Kalomo line be laid before the bridge was finished. Then a locomotive was conveyed in pieces across the gorge by the temporary electronic cableway used for the transportation of the bridge materials and nicknamed the 'Blondin' by the construction engineers. The locomotive was re-assembled and entered service months before the bridge was complete. For more than 50 years the bridge was crossed regularly by passenger trains as part of the principal route between the then Northern Rhodesia, southern Africa and Europe. Freight trains carried mainly copper ore (later, copper ingots) and timber out of Zambia, and coal into the country. The age of the bridge and maintenance problems have led to traffic restrictions at times. Trains cross at less than walking pace and trucks were limited to 30 t, necessitating heavier trucks to make a long diversion via the Kazungula Ferry or Chirundu Bridge. The limit was raised after repairs in 2006, but more fundamental rehabilitation or construction of a new bridge has been aired. During the Rhodesian UDI crisis and Bush War the bridge was frequently closed (and regular passenger services have not resumed successfully). In 1975, the bridge was the site of unsuccessful peace talks when the parties met in a train carriage poised above the gorge for nine and a half hours. In 1980 freight and road services resumed and have continued without interruption except for maintenance. Today one of the Victoria Falls Bridge's main attraction are historical guided tours focusing on the construction of the bridge and which include a walking tour under the main deck. On the Zambian side there is a small museum about the bridge which is free to enter and contains cafe selling refreshments. Also located on the bridge is the Shearwater 111 metres (364 ft) bungee jump including a bungee swing and zip-line. Concerns about safety of the attraction were raised in late 2011 after the bungee's cord snapped and a young Australian woman fell 24 metres (79 ft) into the fast flowing river with many crocodiles. The bridge was originally referred to as the Great Zambesi or Zambezi bridge, later becoming known as the Victoria Falls Bridge.
Bungee Jump GONE WRONG || VICTORIA FALLS, ZAMBIA

Victoria Falls Bridge Swing!! - 2/11/13
This is the video taken from the Victoria Falls Bridge Swing I did while in Zambia, 230 feet of free fall fun! Yes, it was raining as I was getting ready to jump and the wide shot shows the actual falls behind the bridge. I'm swinging into the gorge over the Zambezi River that separates Zambia and Zimbabwe. FYI the screaming you hear as I'm falling is NOT me but the other ladies who were watching (my screaming starts after I swing out). The actual footage of me starts in at 1:18, the first part is just promo video.
