The character of Heidi from Johanna Spyri's (1827--1901) novel of the same name spends her best time with her grandfather at an alp above Maienfeld in the Graubünden mountain landscape. Today, Maienfeld (518 m above sea level) is popular for Heidi tourism. At the Ochsenberg (1,087 m above sea level) above the town lies the Heidialp. Maienfeld and also Malans (568 m above sea level) lie in the Bündner Herrschaft region in the Rhine Valley. The more than 1,000-km-long Rhine empties into the North Sea and has one of its source regions at the Graubünden Oberalp Pass (2,044 m above sea level).
Numerous vineyards on the hills gently sloping southwest emphasize winegrowing as an important economic sector for the region. The Bothmar palace lies slightly above the village and has a lavish Ba-roque garden.

Nagin is a love story of two lovers from different tribes Nagi and Ragi. These tribes are in conflict for the local economic rights. The conflict goes to such a level that the daughter of the Nagi tribe's chief, Mala (Vyjayanthimala) vows to kill the son of the Ragi tribe's chief, Sanatan (Pradeep Kumar) as revenge. However, when she enters enemy territory, she is mesmerized by music of a flute. Soon she comes to know that the singer is Sanatan. In spite of her motive to come over there, she is attracted towards him and both fall in love. It is not easy for them to unite as they find it difficult to minimize the enmity between their two tribes and to resist the attempts of the villain Prabir (Jeevan) to marry Mala. Will they ever get married?
