Albufera Spain - Valencia Tourist Places - Places to Visit in Spain
Albufera derives from the Arabic word small sea.
Valencia’s Albufera region is one of the largest and most valuable coastal wetlands to the Valencian community. In 1986 it was declared a Natural Park. Albufera plays an extremely important role towards the environment as many species nearing extinction habitat its lands, such as the toothed carp fish.
The natural biodiversity of the nature reserve allows a great variety of flora and fauna to thrive and be observed year-round. Though once a saltwater lagoon, dilution due to irrigation and canals draining into the estuary and the sand bars increasing in size had converted it to freshwater by the seventeenth century.

Places to see in ( Valencia - Spain ) Parque Natural de la Albufera
The Albufera, or L'Albufera de València in Valencian, is a freshwater lagoon and estuary on the Gulf of Valencia coast of the Valencian Community in eastern Spain. It is the main portion of the Parc Natural de l'Albufera de València (Valencian Albufera Natural Park), with a surface area of 21,120 hectares (52,200 acres).
The Valencian Albufera Nature Park and lagoon lies just 11 kilometres (6.8 mi) south of Valencia, in the municipal areas of 13 towns and four pedanies (former towns) adjoined to the capital city, these in turn lying within four comarques or counties, namely, in Horta Sud: Albal, Alfafar, Beniparrell, Catarroja, Massanassa, Sedaví and Silla; in Ribera Baixa: Albalat de la Ribera, Cullera, Sollana, Sueca and El Mareny de Barraquetes; in Ribera Alta: Algemesí; and in the County of Valencia and greater metropolitan area of València, in the pedanies of Pinedo, El Palmar, El Saler and El Perellonet. Its proximity to the capital city of the Valencian Land and easy access facilitate nature experiences and birdwatching.
Since 1990, the Valencian Albufera Nature Reserve has been included as a Ramsar Site in the list of wetlands of international importance for birds, established in the Ramsar Convention of 1971. Since 1991 the Parc Natural de l'Albufera de València has also been included in the Special Protection Areas (Zepa in Spanish).
L'Albufera is heavily dominated by Cyanobacteria, particularly Synechococcus. The natural microbial population of Albufera has been recently described.

Photography and Exploring Valencia and Albufera
In this video I'm doing something very different. It's not a landscape photography video, more of a travel and places of interest video, with photos of course. No tripod, no filter, and I'm doing a minimum of talking.
This is an exploration of part of the city of Valencia in Spain, and also of a natural park just out of the city. There's also a sneak peak at the next video to come which is something I'm really looking forward to.
I hope you enjoy it

I.am.wanderlust | City trip to Valencia | Spain
Valencia is a wonderfully liveable city with thriving cultural, eating and nightlife scenes. Never afraid to innovate, Valencia diverted its flood-prone river to the outskirts and converted the former riverbed into a glorious green ribbon of park winding right through the city. Nowadays a perfect spot for a bike ride, festivals, or a run in the park. On it are the strikingly futuristic buildings of the Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias, designed by local boy Santiago Calatrava. Besides a long stretch of beach with its Marina beach club and a large, characterful old quarter, Valencia's surroundings have its own beauty as well. The huerta, a fertile zone of market gardens, is famous as the home of rice dishes such as paella, but its buzzy dining scene offers plenty more besides; it's a superb spot for eating. Or just rent a bike and ride along one of the many bike roads all the way to el Palmar to enjoy a perfect Paella. You will pass the beautiful beach of el Saler and enjoy the natural park of Albufera.

Albufera lagoon and natural park tours - Tours in Valencia
Sunday, the perfect day for a paella in el Palmar and a boat trip on the Albufera fresh water lagoon.
Just approximately 12 miles (20km) south of Valencia you can find the amazing park of the Albufera.
The reserve is a must-see for those who enjoy nature and the outdoors and want to escape from the bustling city.
And for those who like to taste a real authentic Paella this is where they should go! Albufera is famous for it´s rice production, fisherman and local cuisine.
I am visiting the lagoon today with my friends and my colleague guide Gaby, just to relax a bit enjoying the view, the birds and the tranquility.
Of course finishing the morning with a great Paella at restaurant Casa Angel.
I can highly recommend Casa Angel as they are family owned, the service is really great and the view over the rice fields is amazing!
And I think they have an angel in the kitchen that puts some special extra to each paella to make them delicious!!
La Albufera Natural Park is just south of Valencia and easily reachable by bus, scooter or bike from the centre of Valencia. The trip itself offers some lovely views of the beaches, the rice fields and the lagoon.Furthermore, there is an awesome bike route. You can visit on your own or I can take you there on a bike tour, scooter tour or even in a Vintage Volkswagen tour.

Xativa Castle - Valencia Tourist Places - Places to visit in Valencia Spain
Thanks to its strategic location perched high above Xàtiva on the sierra del Castell hill, this twin fortress has been the scene and spectator of a host of battles. Gradually expanded and fortified by the successive cultures that have inhabited these lands, the castle is divided into the Castell Menor, which sits atop Iberian and Roman remains, and the Castell Major. It already featured in Hannibal’s campaigns and the Al-Ándalus period, and subsequently assumed importance for the Kingdom of Valencia in the wars against Castile, the Revolt of the Brotherhoods and the War of the Spanish Succession. It was also used to as a prison for illustrious captives.
The castle forms the highest point of the defensive walls that once encircled early mediaeval Xàtiva. Despite its Iberian and Roman roots, most of castle walls and towers preserved today are of Islamic or Gothic origin. Its imposing architecture renders the castle one of the city’s finest gems, and it has been declared a Cultural Heritage Site. No visit to Xàtiva is complete without a trip around this fortress, with stunning views over the city and its surroundings.
