Spring Unveiling Cannon Beach Oregon 2019
Spring Unveiling 2019 In Cannon Beach Oregon -
Each May, the galleries in Cannon Beach celebrate the new year with the Spring Unveiling Arts Festival. Participants can attend a reception and meet the artist behind a favorite watercolor landscape or chat with a renowned photographer or public bronze sculptor. With visiting and local artists providing unveilings of their latest works, demonstrations, and presentations in a town known for its vibrant art scene, this festival is a great way for visitors to experience the arts in Cannon Beach.
Art galleries around town pull out all the stops, featuring new works, demonstrations and receptions showcasing their top artists all weekend long. Featured artists often include internationally known talents like master photographer Christopher Burkett, who has earned the Hasselblad Masters Award and featured in Popular Photography & Imaging and Forum magazines. Well-known sculptor Georgia Gerber also often makes appearances at the festival. Gerber is best known for her public works including the animal bronzes surrounding Pioneer Courthouse in downtown Portland, Rachel the Pig in Seattle’s Pike Place Market and locally for the Tufted Puffins at Cannon Beach’s Midtown bus stop. The festival has also featured a variety of painters including Anton Pavlenko, who creates brightly hued landscapes; and Kelly Denato, who turns paint and canvas into otherworldly beings.
Popular local artists also turn out only their very best for Spring Unveiling, including painter Jeffrey Hull and glass artists Suzanne Kindland and Jim Kingwell. Jeffrey Hull has been capturing the North Oregon Coast in watercolor and oil for over 40 years, drawing his inspiration from the ocean and landscapes of the area. Kindland and Kingwell, owners and primary artists at Icefire Glassworks in midtown Cannon Beach, have been blowing art glass since 1971.

Cape Perpetua Scenic Area
Recorded June 12, 2019
Cape Perpetua is a large forested headland projecting into the Pacific Ocean on the central Oregon Coast. It is part of the Siuslaw National Forest. It is a typical Pacific Northwest headland, forming a high steep bluff above the ocean. At its highest point, Cape Perpetua rises to over 800 feet above the sea. Along the Cape Perpetua coastline, there are several unique features. The Spouting Horn at Cook's Chasm and Thor's Well on the plateau nearby are both salt water fountains driven by the power of the ocean tide. The Devil's Churn is a long crack in the coastal rock that fills with each ocean wave, occasionally exploding as incoming and outgoing waves collide.

This is one of six videos about how aquarists with Oregon Sea Grant care for animals at the Hatfield Marine Science Center's Visitor Center in Newport, Oregon. This video explains how the aquarists monitor the lighting, water flow, water chemistry and nutrition in tanks with corals to ensure that they grow into colorful colonies.
Oregon Sea Grant operates the Visitor Center, which features interactive exhibits and attracts more than 150,000 visitors each year. It is home to Oregon Sea Grant's marine education program for K-12 students and teachers.

Grant's Getaways: Oregon Treasure in the Dirt
If you're like me, you're bound to be curious when traveling the wide-open spaces of Oregon. I need to know everything I can.
That's how it was when we headed south on US 97 searching for the forty million years of geologic history found in the Oregon state rock called Thundereggs. I cherished these magical, mysterious golf ball size rocks as a child for their drab exterior, but their oh-so-creamy and colorful agate interiors that continue to be trophy prizes for young and old rock hounds alike.
Technically a thunderegg is not a rock; it's a nodule or a geode that forms inside other rocks. But if you were to judge by the throngs of visitors who stream through the Richardson's Recreational Ranch just off US 97 near Madras, thundereggs are without question the most popular rock in Oregon.
The expansive seventeen-thousand-acre ranch allows rock hounds the opportunity to dig and discover countless secrets in the soil. On a recent visit to the ranch, Casey Richardson, co-manager of the expansive operation, led us across seven miles of bumpy back road to a mother lode akin to thunderegg heaven on Earth.

Super low tides allow beachgoers to walk all the way around Haystack Rock
The tide at Cannon Beach was so low Wednesday, July 3, 2019, that visitors were able to walk all the way around Haystack Rock for a short period around 7:45 a.m. Beachgoers explored tide pools and watched tufted puffins nest in the rocks.
Oregon is seeing super low tides along its coast from July 3 to 5. The low tide events all occur during the morning, typically somewhere between 6 and 10 a.m. Tide levels and specific times vary between locations on the coast. You check predictions online at noaa.gov or find tide tables at visitor centers and local businesses.
Ocean tides are controlled by the gravitational force between the Earth, the sun and the moon. The tide fluctuates the most during full moons and new moons, as the alignment of all three heavenly bodies creates a stronger gravitational pull. All of these major low tide events occur in the days directly following a new moon.
