Good morning!! Today we are in Tenerife visiting the Mount Teidi Volcano.
With a summit of 3,718meters, Mount Teidi is the highest point in Spain, and the highest point above sea level in the islands of the Atlantic.
To the west of the Volcano, Pico Viejo has crater views and the unusual rock formations of Roques de García include the iconic Roque Cinchado column. The volcanic formation, Roque Cinchado sits about 1700 meters below the summit.
It belongs to a lineup of large rock formations, which is part of the former summit of the island, known as Roques García.
With a moon-like landscape, Nasa uses this national park as a testing ground for it’s vehicles before heading to the moon.
Having never been to the base of a volcano, this place is pretty cool. When looking around at the different rock formations, you can see the different colours of rock that have formed over time.
This place is definitely worth a trip if you have a couple hours free!

TENERIFE Travel // Surfing, Hiking and Camping Adventure
We heard that Tenerife has a beautiful green side (apart from the tourist resorts in the south), so we ventured to this mountainous island to give it a try.
Equipped with a camera bag and camping gear we decided to camp in the wild all nights of the trip, to completely immerse ourselves in nature. Though, it was a little colder than expected (all decent camp areas are at an altitude of 1000m+) and we ended up freezing on the first night (there was ice on our tent).
One of the highlights of the trip was the ascent of Pico del Teide, the highest mountain in all of Spain. On the first day of the hike we climbed to Altaviste Refuge, a mountain hut at an altitude of 3260m. The next day we hiked to the top (3718m) in the early morning to experience the sunrise at the peak of mount Teide, an amazing experience.
We ended our trip with some surfing sessions at Playa del Socorro (black sand beach) and Playa de las Américas (black lava rocks). This island is perfect for a week of adventuring!

We were lucky enough to be invited on the Simon Turkas blog trip and we would like to thank the Observatory for having us. #gosharetenerife
Mount Teide, Tenerife. ????????
Mount Teide is a volcano on Tenerife in the Canary Islands. Its 3,718-metre (12,198 ft) summit is the highest point in Spain and the highest point above sea level in the islands of the Atlantic. At 7,500 m (24,600 ft) from its base on the ocean floor, it is the third highest volcano on a volcanic ocean island in the world after Mauna Kea, Mauna Loa and others in Hawaii. Its elevation makes Tenerife the tenth highest island in the world. It remains active: its most recent eruption occurred in 1909 from the El Chinyero vent on the northwestern Santiago rift. The United Nations Committee for Disaster Mitigation designated Teide a Decade Volcano because of its history of destructive eruptions and its proximity to several large towns, of which the closest are Garachico, Icod de los Vinos and Puerto de la Cruz. Teide, Pico Viejo and Montaña Blanca form the Central Volcanic Complex of Tenerife.
The volcano and its surroundings comprise Teide National Park, which has an area of 18,900 hectares (47,000 acres) and was named a World Heritage Site by UNESCO on June 28, 2007. It is one of the most visited national parks in the world, with a total of 2.8 million visitors, according to the Instituto Canario de Estadística (ISTAC). In 2013 it was the ninth most visited national park in the world. The Teide is the most visited natural wonder of Spain.
