Protest action of Azeri youth against Euronews 4/4
Four organizers of an Azerbaijani youth protest have been received by Euronews TV's editor-in-chief, Peter Barabas.
Some 50 protesters gathered outside Euronews head office in Lyon today to protest at a one-sided Euronews report on the Karabakh conflict. The protesters chanted Respect the truth, Karabakh is Azerbaijani territory and Journalism requires professionalism.
Four of the protest organizers - Araz Bayramli, Mirvari Fataliyev, Vurgun Agazade and Elnur Mejidli - were received by Barabas for about an hour, Mejidli said.
Barabas told the protesters that he had not expected the report to cause such a storm of protest. He said the Euronews editorial office had received hundreds of letters about the report.
Barabas said they had decided to make a report about Azerbaijanis who suffered as a result of the conflict and had received permission from the presidential administration to visit Baku in January.
Protest organizer Aydin Mammadov, coordinator of the Ireli public movement, told 1news.az, that the Azerbaijani side had outlined to the Euronews management the history of Karabakh, the appearance of Armenians in the region and the reasons for the conflict.
Euronews representatives were astonished to hear that the 'Christian centre', as they termed Nagorno-Karabakh in the TV report, has nothing to do with Armenians as this is Albanian cultural heritage. We explained to them that the monasteries, churches and historical monuments shown in the report belong to the ancestors of the Azerbaijanis the Caucasian Albanians, Mammadov said.
The Euronews representatives showed a particular interest in the books, brochures and documented facts on the history of Azerbaijan, the Karabakh khanate, Azerbaijani culture as well as materials on the methods of Armenian falsifications and Armenian terror presented to them as a gift. The channel apologized for disinformation in the documentary saying the film was made on the basis of materials and information presented only by Armenians, Mammadov said.
He said Euronews representatives had confirmed that they recognized the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan.
The protesters decided to distribute books and brochures to libraries, student campuses and hostels in Paris, Lyon, Strasbourg, Toulouse, Besancon, Grenoble, Marseilles and other French cities Mammadov said.
Barabas said that after a careful study of the report, Karabakh - Winds of Change, it might be withdrawn from the channel's web site, Jeyhun Osmanli, head of the Ireli (Forward) association, told 1news.az.

LONDON CABS GIVEN EXCLUSIVE RIGHTS TO CENTRAL TAXI RANKS
As of this morning, only the new London taxis are permitted to park on certain streets in downtown Baku, including the central arteries of Nizami and Samad Vurgun. The Transport Ministry Security forces and police forced other taxis to leave the area.
The public taxi drivers condemned the Transport Ministry's new policy as unjust, violent and discriminatory. We have 5 year licenses from the Transport Ministry. We pay taxes every month and make very little money to support our families. During the early hours of this morning, we encountered violence on the part of Transport Ministry employees, and I was forced to leave the street by the Nasimi monument, said one Lada driver.
Another driver claimed that this new regulation entails a government monopoly over taxi transport. According to the Constitution, all citizens are equal before the law. Why do the police defend the taxis that are under control of the Ministry, but use force to expel law-abiding drivers who possess licenses from the very same Ministry?
We are beautifying the city. All the news cabs are the same color. They are wide, comfortable and nice. Other taxis are different, said a driver of a so-called London cab, who was later discovered to be a Ministry employee.
The taxi drivers called upon the Azerbaijani government to abide by the constitution and other laws, and to protect their citizens' rights. The drivers said that they are planning to hold a protest on October 30th, in front of Ulduz underground station.
BAKU RESIDENTS FACE PROPERTY RIGHTS PROBLEMS
Newly constructed buildings add beauty to Baku, but at the same time leave behind hundreds of citizens whose apartments have been demolished and who are forced to live under difficult conditions. Citizens living in Fizuli, Shemsi Bedelbeyli, Mirzaga Aliyev and Semed Vurgun streets were deprived of their apartments, which were demolished to pave way for the construction of the Winter Boulevard. Residents of 174 Mirzaga Aliyev Street complain that their apartments have become damaged because of demolition and contraction work carried out nearby. There cellars of their houses have been filled with wastewater. People are living under unsanitary conditions. Dust and noise of heavy equipments fill the air. It is regrettable to see such a scene in the capital city of the country.
Citizens living near January 20 Metro Station face similar problems. The skyscrapers built very close to cottages are a source of constant threat. Citizens turned to Objective TV after failing to receive response to their appeals submitted to relevant authorities.
