ROOFTOP VIEWS & NEON MUSEUM | Warsaw University Library Gardens | Poland Travel Vlog
The rooftop gardens on the Warsaw University Library were a shock! Poland also has a Neon Museum in Warsaw city a vlog... ⬇ Click 'Show More' ⬇
The Warsaw University Library has these incredible gardens on the rooftop that we were told about from lots of people in advance of visiting Warsaw. As with lots of Poland, the local advice for things to add to our travel vlog have been pretty on point and the Library garden was the same.
The Warsaw Neon Museum was an incredible place to check out, a different spin on a museum all together, so we were pleased to visit. Its a shame we couldn't vlog in there, but it was worth the travel out there.
Overall, a pretty fun and relaxed travel vlog exploring Warsaw and seeing more of what Poland has to offer. Never expected to be visiting a university rooftop garden and a neon museum during our stay in Warsaw!

Warsaw University Library (Poland)
Warsaw University Rooftop Garden | Warsaw Local
The Biblioteka Uniwersytetu Warszawskiego (BUW) or the Warsaw University Library building was opened in December of 1999 and the Library garden in June, 2002. One of the largest and most beautiful roof gardens in Europe, the Biblioteka Uniwersytetu Warszawskiego (BUW) or the Warsaw University Library encompasses two garden areas – an upper area of 2,000 m2, and a lower area of 15,000 m2 – linked by a fountain of cascading water. The roof garden setting offers sweeping views of Warsaw, the Vistula river and the Świętokrzyski Bridge.
The roof garden of the Library of the University of Warsaw is an experimental project. It is the first and largest roof garden established in Poland of its kind. It offers exceptional views to the Vistula River, fragments of the natural declivity, and the buildings situated downhill. The variety of the scenes created and beauty of the panorama remain the greatest values of this place.
The design concept falls into the formation of several separate, yet conjoined gardens. The functional and spacial divisions, outlined by the skylights, technical equipment and entrances to the roof (platform, off-ramp), were inspired by the idea of creating varied garden spaces differing with spirit, colors, forms and scents. The Warsaw University Library has various slopes for each section of the roof; there are flat parts sloped 0-2% and also pitched areas up to 100%.

This building was finished in 1999 and even blessed by Pope John Paul II. As amazing as it is inside, the real treasure is on its roof, where architects Marek Budzyński and Zbigniew Badowski placed a botanical garden. Take a glance.

University of Warsaw (2011)
The University of Warsaw (UW), founded in 1816, is the largest and one of the best Polish tertiary education institutions. The strength of the University lies, above all, in the high standard of the teaching staff and students who achieve numerous national and international successes. The teaching activity is tightly linked with research.
Film was made in 2011 by Janusz Kurowski.

Warsaw University Library
My travel to Europe in September 2003 was occasioned by an invitation from the International Council of Archives (ICA) ~ Universities and Research Institutions Section (SUV) to attend the 2003 Seminar on Archives and Changing Societies: Active Strategies for Meeting Public, Institutional, and Archival Needs. This was held in Warsaw and Krakow, Poland on September 7-10. It turned out to be a gathering of mostly European archivists, since only about a dozen came from outside Europe.
As a country, Poland turned out to be quite a revelation. I never expected to fall in love with the country and its friendly people so quickly. From the moment I took a taxi, whose driver charged me only 36 zloty (9 euros, which, believe me, is cheap when compared to my taxi fares much later, from the Schipol in Amsterdam which cost me 55 euros, and in Paris, which was a 10 minute-drive to Charles de Gaulle for 45 euros), I was already enamored with Warsaw: the wide avenues lined with century-old trees, the clean metro stations, the friendly passersby who patiently looked into our city guide-maps and gave us directions despite the language barrier, and the accommodating bus driver who waived our first bus fare because we only had euro coins (Poland has still a year to adopt the euro currency then).
And seminar participants were treated to a half-day tour of the Warsaw University Library. Nothing can compare with this awesome Library ~ its glass and steel roof, all chrome and steel structures and furnishings, stunning roof gardens, and the awesome panorama of the city once you reach the top of the roof. It is definitely one of the coolest and greenest!
The University is the largest in Poland, and the library is the biggest in terms of holdings, with over 4M books. The University employs over 6,500 staff including over 3,300 faculty. It provides graduate courses for 65,000 students (on top of over 9,200 postgraduate and doctoral candidates). The library has one of the largest roof gardens in all of Europe (one hectare). The Library is so accessible even to the public, so welcoming. It is situated not far from the city center in the vicinity of the Old Town and Vistula river, only 10 minutes walking distance from the main campus and the Royal Road, with excellent bus connection (four public buses stop right next to the Library). It is very easy to get there.

First Time in Poland | 48 Hours in Warsaw
Welcome to Poland everybody! This is our first experience here in this country and we are going to spend 48 hours in Warsaw to kick off this series.
After a few delays we finally arrived in Warsaw, so we checked into our hotel and headed out to the old town to get some Polish dumplings and traditional polish potatoe pancakes to end our first night.
The next day we headed out into the old town and saw
- Old Town Square
- Warsaw Castle
- University Campus of Warsaw library viewpoint
We then went up the bell tower in castle square which is a great view point to see the city. For lunch we headed out to the Koszyki Covered Market.
In the afternoon we headed out to The largest park in Warsaw Lazienki Krolewskie and went on a little water gondola ride.
To end our time in Warsaw we went out to the Nocny markets.
