New Hope's fire chief requested Dive Team 41 from Point Pleasant to assist the marine units. Search and rescue boats from both PA and NJ launched at the Firemen's Island along Route 29 in Hopewell Township, NJ; just north and opposite of the State Park. At approximately 2:45 the victim was located and brought back to the Pennsylvania shore where he was pronounced deceased by the Bucks Co. Coroner's Office. A Fire Chaplain was present to meet with the victim's family who were on scene during the incident. State Park Rangers from both Pennsylvania and New Jersey and local police assisted. Parkgoers celebrating the holiday were evacuated from the riverfront area of the park including the General Sullivan Pavilion. The rest of the State Park area such as the Delaware Canal and the Thompson Neely House continued to be open to the public during this incident. This part of Washington Crossing Park is located along River Road near Aquetong Road just a mile south of the Borough of New Hope.
