Bat Cave. Wat Khao Wongkhot. Lop Buri, Thailand. In HD
Covering an area of 30 rai, Wat Khao Wongkhot is situated approximately 4 kilometers from Ban Mi city. The temple is built in the middle of three mountains with the Reclining Buddha enshrined at the foot of Sanam Daeng Mountain. Visitors are encouraged to stop at a pavilion which keeps the un-deteriorated body of Charoen Ditsawanno venerable Bhikku, former abbot of Wat Khao Wongkot who passed away in 1963.
Within the compound of Wat Khao Wongkhot is a bat cave which is considered to be the largest in Lop Buri. With millions of bats inhabiting the cave, the temple receives substantial revenues from the sale of bat dung. The bats will fly out of the cave at 6 p.m. to seek food. It takes up to 2 hours to empty the cave.

Red-wattled Lapwing, flight, call and preening, Ban Mi, Thailand, Jan. 2010
Red-wattled Lapwing in a rice field in Ban Mi, Thailand, January 2010. First in flight, then calling then some preening. This was taken in a small village, Ban Gluay, outside Ban Mi. The frogs in the rice field were very loud as this was towards evening, so you have to listen for the lapwing call.

Lop Buri Inn Resort Thailand. Original Place of Monkey Festival
We stayed at the Lop Buri Inn Resort in Thailand recently, and I must tell you that we had an excellent time. This is the place of the famous Monkey Festival that is held here once a year. The staff was awesome and very friendly, nothing but peace and quiet, fresh air and birds singing... I really didn't want to leave. So if you are traveling to Lop Buri for their abundant archaeological sites or are on your way up North, this is one of the best places for your money to spend the night or two. Complimentary drinking water bottles in your room, 24 hour pool, free breakfast, bike rental, you can even catch up on some world news in your room, I remember at least 2 or 3 TV news chanels in English. Almost forgot, if you want wireless internet in your room I think it's like a couple of dollars for a 24 hour period (that came in very handy!) I do think they have regular internet access for free in the reception area though. We'll be back!

Our Day Trip Adventure to the Pa Sak Jolasid Dam - Lopburi Province, Thailand [March 18, 2015]
The 4,860-meter (15,940 ft) wide and 36.5-meter (120 ft) high dam is an earth-filled dam with an impervious core. The storage capacity is 785 million cubic meter of water at normal water level, with a maximum capacity of 960 million cubic meters. Additionally, to water management the dam also supplies about 6.7 MW of hydro-electric power to the region.
The Pa Sak Cholasit Dam Project is one of the largest major irrigation projects of Thailand, providing water for irrigation to the plantations and farms in the Pa Sak valley and lower Chao Phraya valley. The dam also decreases the problems of flooding through water management in Bangkok by allowing more rain waters to be held far upstream. The Pa Sak river was one of the main sources of flooding in the Bangkok metropolitan area.
King Bhumibol Adulyadej initiated a project to develop the Pa Sak River valley and lower Chao Phraya valley on February 19, 1989 as part of the Maenam Pa Sak Royal Development Project. On July 4, 1991 the Prime Minister Anand Panyarachun commanded to set a study group for the dam project. HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn presided a royal ceremony on June 15, 1998, starting the storing of water in the reservoir.
On October 20, 1991 King Bhumibol Adulyadej gave the dam its official name, Pa Sak Cholasit. The King also presided over the Royal Grand Opening of the dam on November 25, 1999. The dam and attached park have become a very popular tourist destination.
