Wat Po Chai in Nong Khai, north-eastern Thailand, is a popular Buddhist temple with both the thai people and visitors alike....
The main attraction is the Viharn with houses the much revered Gold Buddha statue of Luang Phor Phra Sai dating back to the mid 18th century. The statue has an interesting history. Whilst being transferred from Laos to Thailand, the boat carrying it across the Mekong River, sank. For twenty-five years the statue was lost to the waters until it was re-discovered and enshrined in Wat Po Chai.
The Viharn is covered with stunning murals telling the story of the Statue, together with scenes from the life of the Buddha and others of Buddhist life in Nong Khai........
The Murals of Wat Pho Chai, Nong Khai, Thailand
Quite possibly the most beautiful temple in Thailand, Wat Pho Chai in Nong Khai presents an impressive array of murals. These not only depict the life of the Buddha, similar to many temples in this part of the world, but the scenes from every day life and the festivals in and around Nong Khai are of special note. Several artists were responsible for the murals, each showing their own particular style.
Wat Pho Chai is arguably the most important of Nong Khai's temples as it houses the Luangpho Phra Sai, a sacred image of the Buddha which is highly revered by the people of Nong Khai.
The Luangpho Phra Sai, cast from yellow gold in the posture of Subduing Mara, is centuries old dating back to the ancient Lan Chang Empire. The legend goes that the three daughters of the King of Lan Chang commissioned three such images of the Buddha were given names corresponding to the names of the three daughters, Phra Soem, Phra Suk and Phra Sai.
The three images, originally housed in Vientiane, were brought to Nong Khai over 200 years ago, during the reign of King Rama III. However Phra Suk fell in to the river during a violent storm whilst in transit to Nong Khai by boat on the Mekong. The two surviving images were placed in Wat Pho Chai and Wat Ho Klong. Later, during the Reign of King Rama IV, Phra Soem was taken to Bangkok, leaving Phra Sai at Wat Pho Chai.

Die Tempelanlage Wat Pho Chai in Nong Khai
Wat Pho Chai (Thai: วัดโพธิ์ชัย) gehört mit zu den meistbesuchtesten Tempelanlagen in Thailand.
Er beherbergt eine von ursprünglich drei Buddhastatuen, die der Legende nach, zur Regierungszeit von Lan Chang in Vientiane gegossen worden sind. Unter Rama dem III. wurde der Transport über den Mekong veranlasst, wobei eine Statue bei Sturm im Mekong versank und bis heute nicht geborgen wurde.
Jedes Jahr am Vollmondtag im siebten Mondmonat erinnern und ehren die Menschen der Provinz Nong Khai die Buddhastatue mit einem sogenannten Bang Fai Festival bei dem Raketen in die Luft geschossen werden...

This gold Buddha image is highly revered by the Nong Khai people and dates back to the ancient Lan Chang Lnpire crntuies ago. It is believed the image is one of 3 images commissioned to be molded by the 3 daughters of the king of Lan Chang. In 1778, the images were mived to Vientiane and during the reign of King Rama III, they were briyght to Thailand, but one sank in a stirm. Located on Pho Chai Road in the Mueang Nong Khai Municipality, Wat Pho Chai is where Luangpho Phra Sai, a sacred Buddha image of the town which is respected by the people of Nong Khai, is situated. This Buddha image sits cross-legged, which was cast from bright yellow gold in the posture of subduing Mara, has graceful features. According to legend, three daughters of the King of Lan Chang had three Buddha images cast and named each to associate with their names: Phra Soem, Phra Suk, and Phra Sai to the eldest, middle, and youngest siblings, respectively.
Songkran Festival Celebrations at Wat Pho Chai in Nong Khai province, Thailand
Wat Pho Chai located in the southeast of Nong Khai is a temple not to be missed during the Songkran Festival. In the temple, enshrined is a unique image of a large bronze Buddha with a solid gold head inlaid with rubies. The Buddha image was shipped from Laos across the Mekong. It fell into the water during a storm and was salvaged 25 years later. Braving the scorching heat, hundreds of devotees sprinkle water on the sacred Luangpho Phra Sai, a spectacular sight! The image is the focal point of a procession around Nong Khai city later in the afternoon.

Mein liebstes Guesthouse in Nong Khai ist das Khiangkhong. Es ist zentral gelegen und ich kann im Stadtkern alles zu Fuß erreichen. In unmittelbarer Nähe gibt es zahlreiche Restaurants und die Uferpromenade am Mekong ist nur einen Katzensprung entfernt.
Ein weiteres Plus sind die überdachten Unterstellmöglichkeiten für Autos und Motorräder. Sie stehen vor Regen und Sturm geschützt. Nachts gibt es einen Wächter, der sie im Auge behält. Keiner zerkratzt euer geliebtes Fahrzeug.
Das Internet arbeitet sehr schnell und der Service ist ausgesprochen gut. Alle Zimmer werden täglich geputzt. Jeden Tag wird die Bettwäsche gewechselt, es gibt neue Handtücher und Seife und als Bonus zwei Flaschen Trinkwasser gratis.
Auf der ersten Etage könnt ihr euch selber kostenlos einen löslichen Kaffee zubereiten, auf der Terrasse kostet Bohnenkaffee 30 Baht. Bier und Softdrinks werden zu absoluten Niedrigstpreisen an der Rezeption verkauft. Die ist übrigens 24 Stunden geöffnet.
Zimmer mit Ventilator kosten 300 Baht die mit Aircon 400 Baht.

My Buddha Temple in Nong Khai , N E Thailand WAT PO CHAI !
This is one of those Buddhist temples in Thailand that has an history of over a 1000 years.....WatPoChai is an well known temple in NE Thailand and located in Nong Khai which I visit every other year.Inside the temple , decorated murals and artefacts are of a few thousand years and never seen in any other temples in Thailand! This is a place to worship Thai Buddha for luck , prosperity in business and health.
