Finca Santa Isabel, Welchez Coffee
One of the oldest Coffee growing fincas in western Honduras, where Cafe Welchez is harvested and processed.
Honduras: Coffee Plantation Tours
In the western highlands of Honduras, visitors will find two distinctive coffee plantations near Copán Ruinas: Finca Santa Isabel (Café Welchez) and Finca El Cisne. A tour of each educates on the growing, harvesting and production of coffee beans. At Finca Santa Isabel, guests hike along a hillside nature trail amid coffee plants with plenty of chances to sight birds, including mot mots and oropendolas. At Finca El Cisne, visitors explore the plantation by horseback on trails that border the coffee plantation and that provide panoramic views of the countryside. At each, they will also learn about the harvesting and production of the beans, and can end their visit with a meal and a hot cup of fresh Honduran coffee.

Finca Santa Isabel & Cafe Welchez 2017
Don Raul Welchez bought Finca Santa Isabel in the early 1950s. He was a visionary man who loved farming and appreciated good coffee. He implemented procedures and techniques necessary to produce high quality coffee. These efforts gradually paid off and the reputation of his quality coffee grew. In the 1970s, following the expansion of his farm operations, Don Raul began offering coffee to customers in the region. Twenty years later, in the mid-90s, Don Raul’s two sons decided to baptize the coffee as Café Welchez. Together, they continue to manage Finca Santa Isabel where they strive to uphold Don Raul’s high standards for quality coffee.
It has been more than half a century, and Santa Isabel” farm has become what Don Raul envisioned the day he first saw it -- a place where families can make an honest living, an ideal location for wildlife where sustainable management of land, water and forests are part of daily work; and a natural laboratory classroom where people from around the world can come to learn about agroforestry and coffee.” Above all, Santa Isabel is a place where visitors can feel at home” and find a table ready to enjoy a cup of Cafe Welchez.
SUSTAINABILITY
We believe in taking good care of our world and giving back as much as
we can. This is why we decided that every coffee bean of Cafe Welchez
would come from farms where the environment and the surrounding
communities are well-maintained, where the natural flora and fauna are
part of workspace and where every worker is fairly compensated. Thank
you for being part of this dream!
