Solo trip | Driving to Virginia, visiting Williamsburg
DOWNLOAD FOR FREE MY 5 STEPS ESSENTIAL PACKING PLANNER here
Continuing my solo trip in the US, I borrowed a car and left Washington DC. I drove six hours to get to Williamsburg, Virginia. I slept at my hosts' Chelsea and visited Colonial Williamsburg the next day. There was a nice farmers market and many historical remembrances. I also took part to a honey and mead tasting and tried the mead for the first time. I liked it a lot!

Off the Beaten Path: Skinnerville, MA | Connecting Point | Apr. 12, 2017
Connecting Point’s “Off The Beaten Path” continues with a look at Skinnerville, MA, a typical mill village of the mid-nineteenth century that was located along the banks of the Mill River near Williamsburg, Haydenville and Leeds.
In 1874, a catastrophic event would wipe Skinnerville off the map and today nothing more than a plaque on a rock and a few property markers are left. Producer Dave Fraser talks with Williamsburg Historian Ralmond Jon Black to learn more about this intriguing village located “Off the Beaten Path.”

Joseph Ellis: 'The Second Founding: Four Men Who Created a Country' was presented September 28, 2016 at the University of Minnesota's Ted Mann Concert Hall.
Ellis, the Pulitzer Prize-winning historian and author of The Quartet: Orchestrating the Second American Revolution, 1783–1789, discussed one of the most crucial periods in American history — the years between the end of the Revolution and the formation of the federal government — and the men most responsible for the creation of the United States: George Washington, Alexander Hamilton, John Jay, and James Madison. The event, attended by nearly 700 people, was sponsored by the Friends of the University of Minnesota Libraries.

Preseason Maple Sugaring in the Berkshires | Connecting Point | Jan. 13, 2019
One major positive about winter, especially here in New England, is that it stays lighter later every day from the winter solstice in December right to the summer solstice in June. Another positive? Maple harvesting season. With over three hundred maple syrup producers, the four-to-six-week maple sugaring season is a big deal in the Commonwealth. But what do maple producers do during the other ten months of the year? It might be more than you think. Connecting Point's Brian Sullivan visits Dufresne’s Sugar House and Ioka Valley Farm in the Berkshires for a look at the “preseason” for maple growers.

It's either one of the biggest marijuana busts in history - or a mistake
Small town police in Pawhuska, Oklahoma, pulled over a tractor trailer headed for Colorado. They think they have one of the biggest marijuana busts in history – more than 17,000 pounds. The drivers tell them it's industrial hemp, but police arrested them. Four people - including a cannabis company founder from Colorado – were then locked up, now facing drug trafficking charges that could bring 15 years to life. (

Battles of the Civil War: Crash Course US History #19
Disclaimer: This is very different than the usual Crash Course US History episode.
In which John Green lists a whole lot of the battles of the US Civil War in seven and a half minutes. We get a lot of requests for military history, so we offer a list of battle names, with some commentary about outcomes, and lots of really interesting pictures. This is a but of a departure for Crash Course as we leave behind the world of thoughtful analysis and just list some facts. Don't worry though. We've already got our brains turned back on for next week. Support CrashCourse on Patreon:
Hey teachers and students - Check out CommonLit's free collection of reading passages and curriculum resources to learn more about the events of this episode. The Battle of Gettysburg remains one of the most infamous battles of the Civil War:
The Civil War pitted brother against brother and friend against friend, as was the case for the two warring generals in the Siege of Vicksburg:

“HARVESTING RHODE ISLAND” IS A TELEVISION SERIES WITH RHODE ISLAND PBS – TV AND WILL PROMOTE PUBLIC AWARENESS THROUGH FOLK LIFE STUDIES BY INTERPRETING HOW THIS HISTORICALLY SIGNIFICANT WAY OF LIFE ON THE FARM WILL MANAGE TO SURVIVE. THE PILOT WILL EXPLORE HOW TRADITIONAL SYSTEMS CAN BE CREATIVELY MAINTAINED AND BECOME MORE OF A DYNAMIC MARKETPLACE. INTRODUCING THE GENERAL PUBLIC TO THE FARMERS OF RHODE ISLAND WILL PROVIDE INSIGHTS INTO THE COMPLEX BUT EASILY TAKEN-FOR-GRANTED PROCESS BEHIND PRODUCTS THEY CONSUME.
IT WILL TELL THE CENTRAL STORY OF HOW THE FARMERS HAVE RESPONDED TO CHANGING TECHNOLOGY AND MARKETS SO THAT THEY CAN CONTINUE TO SUCCEED IN BUSINESS. GROWERS HAVE HAD TO BALANCE THE TRADITIONAL APPROACHES THAT WERE HANDED DOWN TO THEM WITH THE VARIABLE REALITIES OF TODAY’S BUSINESS CLIMATE. IN THE LATTER PART OF THE TWENTIETH CENTURY LOCAL WHOLESALE MARKETS BEGAN TO SHRINK DUE TO LARGE RETAILERS’ AND NATIONAL DISTRIBUTION SYSTEMS. AS A RESULT GROWERS INCREASED THEIR DIRECT MARKETING THROUGH ON-SITE RETAIL STANDS, PICK YOUR OWN PROGRAMS, FARMERS MARKETS AND SELLING THROUGH FARM FRESH TO LOCAL RETAILERS. THIS DIRECT APPROACH HAS IN TURN STIMULATED DIVERSIFICATION TO SATISFY THE ECLECTIC TASTES OF INCREASINGLY SOPHISTICATED CONSUMERS. . A LARGE NUMBER OF CONSUMERS IN RHODE ISLAND ARE UNAWARE OF THE LOCATIONS AND VARIETY OF CROPS THAT ARE GROWN IN THE STATE AND WHERE TO PURCHASE THEM. HARVESTING RHODE ISLAND WILL RING THEM ON LOCATION SO THEY CAN SEE THE FARMS AND LISTEN TO THE FARMER'S STORIES.
THE EDUCATED CONSUMER WILL PLAY AN IMPORTANT ROLE IN THE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT AND SUSTAINABILITY OF THE FARMS IN RHODE ISLAND.
