Kakheti: Georgia's cradle of wine - life
Kakheti is Georgia's main wine-producing region in the country's east. Wine grapes have been cultivated in these lands for 8,000 years, which, archaeologists say, makes Kakheti the cradle of wine.
A total of 104 endemic varieties of grapes grow at the Alaverdi Monastery of Saint George, which traces its history back to the sixth century. The unique Georgian way of making wine was passed on by the Orthodox monks through the ages.
Wine making began here from the very first days of the monaster…

KAKHETI | Wine Tasting + Bread & ChurchKhela Making at WINERY KHAREBA
How could we ever miss it! It was the perfect stop for us in our short visit in the Telavi area. We took a tour and really appreciated Lasha our [winery tour guide] who joined in the adventure. Not only did we get to taste the wine we got to taste some grapeseed oil and local pressed cheese, we saw how wine was made, what tools they used, and finally saw the huge collection of bottles in the tunnels. Khareba undoubtedly is tourist-oriented but in the good sense. We got to do bread making and churchkhela

WINE WAS INVENTED HERE (Signagi) Country of GEORGIA
Travel vlog 543// Signagi, Georgia // Country #78 // Getting out of Tbilisi proved to be a challenge (book ahead people!), but we finally rented a car to explore the countryside of Georgia! Our first stop of this road trip is the town of Signagi. Georgia claims to have invented wine, so we had to visit their biggest wine region! We toured wineries and had our best meal in Georgia to date!!!

Originally from Nashville, Tennessee, we got married June 2013 and quickly caught the travel bug! We started “travel hacking” and taking more trips together and finally decided we wanted to travel for one year. After 2 years of saving $ and travel hacking over 2 million miles and points, we sold our cars and apartment and left home January 10, 2016. We started this YouTube channel to share our experiences with friends and family, then decided we really liked vlogging and traveling. So we extended our 1 year trip to THREE years :) Now we have a goal of traveling to 100 countries before 2020! We are incredibly thankful to do something we love every day. :)
Georgia 2019 Travel Vlog - Tbilisi, Sighnaghi, Great Wall, Kakheti, Wine Tasting Tour
Our 2nd time in Georgia, I know, we couldn't get enough of the first visit 2 years ago so we went back this year in February. There will definitely a 3rd visit.... someday ;)
This is the 3rd part of the trip.
Checked in on our last Airbnb place for this trip, Lizi & George's place -
Then had dinner at Galleries Tbilisi Mall. Next day went on further Tbilisi tour, Georgian National Museum, Opera, Freedom Square.
Sighnaghi - Bodbe Monastery - Kakheti
Last leg of our tour was on the eastern side. We had a lot of alcohol ;)
Enjoy
Georgia 2018 - Day 4: Kakheti Wine Region / City of Love Tour
2018-02-27 We booked our Kakheti Wine Region / City of Love Tour with City Sight Seeing Tbilisi for only GEL 60 per person (approx. USD 24). Our group was a mixture of Russians and Filipinos (me, my husband and someone we met during the tour who coincidently is from Abu Dhabi as well).
The first stop of the tour is in a wine factory where we got to taste different types of wines, brandy and chacha ( We were advised to buy from the factory if we are planning to buy wine/brandy because it is cheaper compared to the stores/groceries in the city centre.
For Georgian people, baking bread is as important as winemaking tradition and each Georgian holds pride because of these two rituals. According to the locals, baking bread is a blessed job and just like wine, bread is a gift from the God.
In line with this, our tour’s next stop is a local bakery where we familiarised ourselves with the Georgian way of baking their traditional bird called Shotis Puri or Deda’s Puri or Mother’s bread (
The next stop was Bodbe Monastery or the Monastery of St. Nino ( which is one of the major pilgrimage sites in Georgia since St. Nino’s tomb/graveyard and other relics are shrined here. Georgian’s believe that if you see, touch & pray in her graveyard, your wish will be granted.
We were then given time to explore Signagi ( or the City of wine and love, as it is being called in recent years. This city is very much appealing to those who are tired of rush and hustle, and like everything lovely, cute and small. Walking through Sighnaghi, you might feel like in Italy - the architecture is pretty similar to small Italian towns. Romantic cobbled streets, carved balconies, 24/7 marriage registration, thus the name ‘City of Love”. In front of the marriage hall, stands a small statue of a girl holding a bunch of flowers; our tour guide told us that they believe that if one rubs the nose of the statue, it will bring good luck on love for those who are single and happy years of marriage for married couples.
We had our lunch in Old House in Signagi Restaurant and had the best pork barbeque fillet. After the sumptuous lunch, we walked all the way to the Great Wall of Signagi. Sighnaghi is about 5 kilometers built in King Erekle II’s times in 1770s. The fortress could accommodate almost all Kizikians in that period. Sighnaghi Wall is still considered to be one of the most important historic monuments in Kakheti and throughout Georgia. A small section of the wall has been restored for tourism.
We ended the day relaxing in Laerton Spa & Wellness.
