KAKHETI | Wine Tasting + Bread & ChurchKhela Making at WINERY KHAREBA
How could we ever miss it! It was the perfect stop for us in our short visit in the Telavi area. We took a tour and really appreciated Lasha our [winery tour guide] who joined in the adventure. Not only did we get to taste the wine we got to taste some grapeseed oil and local pressed cheese, we saw how wine was made, what tools they used, and finally saw the huge collection of bottles in the tunnels. Khareba undoubtedly is tourist-oriented but in the good sense. We got to do bread making and churchkhela

Georgia 2018 - Day 4: Kakheti Wine Region / City of Love Tour
2018-02-27 We booked our Kakheti Wine Region / City of Love Tour with City Sight Seeing Tbilisi for only GEL 60 per person (approx. USD 24). Our group was a mixture of Russians and Filipinos (me, my husband and someone we met during the tour who coincidently is from Abu Dhabi as well).
The first stop of the tour is in a wine factory where we got to taste different types of wines, brandy and chacha ( We were advised to buy from the factory if we are planning to buy wine/brandy because it is cheaper compared to the stores/groceries in the city centre.
For Georgian people, baking bread is as important as winemaking tradition and each Georgian holds pride because of these two rituals. According to the locals, baking bread is a blessed job and just like wine, bread is a gift from the God.
In line with this, our tour’s next stop is a local bakery where we familiarised ourselves with the Georgian way of baking their traditional bird called Shotis Puri or Deda’s Puri or Mother’s bread (
The next stop was Bodbe Monastery or the Monastery of St. Nino ( which is one of the major pilgrimage sites in Georgia since St. Nino’s tomb/graveyard and other relics are shrined here. Georgian’s believe that if you see, touch & pray in her graveyard, your wish will be granted.
We were then given time to explore Signagi ( or the City of wine and love, as it is being called in recent years. This city is very much appealing to those who are tired of rush and hustle, and like everything lovely, cute and small. Walking through Sighnaghi, you might feel like in Italy - the architecture is pretty similar to small Italian towns. Romantic cobbled streets, carved balconies, 24/7 marriage registration, thus the name ‘City of Love”. In front of the marriage hall, stands a small statue of a girl holding a bunch of flowers; our tour guide told us that they believe that if one rubs the nose of the statue, it will bring good luck on love for those who are single and happy years of marriage for married couples.
We had our lunch in Old House in Signagi Restaurant and had the best pork barbeque fillet. After the sumptuous lunch, we walked all the way to the Great Wall of Signagi. Sighnaghi is about 5 kilometers built in King Erekle II’s times in 1770s. The fortress could accommodate almost all Kizikians in that period. Sighnaghi Wall is still considered to be one of the most important historic monuments in Kakheti and throughout Georgia. A small section of the wall has been restored for tourism.
We ended the day relaxing in Laerton Spa & Wellness.
