Hanging Rock (formally known as Mount Diogenes), in central Victoria, Australia, is a distinctive geological formation, 718m above sea level (105m above plain level) on the plain between the two small townships of Newham and Hesket, approximately 70 km north-west of Melbourne and a few kilometres north of Mount Macedon, a former volcano. Hanging Rock is located within the Wurundjeri nation's territory[citation needed]. It is best known through the fictional story Picnic at Hanging Rock.

Visitor Information Centre
The first point of call for all visitors should be the information centre, near the ferry at the end of the main street. Attached to the Mannum Dock Museum (see separate clip 'Museums - Mannum Dock Museum'), the centre and museum are open 9am-5pm Monday to Friday and 10am-4pm on weekends.

I shot this video at the Ballina Visitor Information Centre during a huge storm on 22 February 2013. The wind was up to 160 klms per hour and we received more than 150mm of rain. Very scary!
