U.S. PREMIERE
Introduction and Q&A with director Daisuke Miyazaki and star Hanae Kan
Frustrated teenager Sakura (the outstanding Korean-Japanese actress Hanae Kan, Nobody Knows, West North West) lives in the town of Yamato by U.S. Naval Air Facility Atsugi. When she’s not brooding at home with her single mother and brother in close quarters separated only by a curtain, she seeks pleasure in solitude, flipping through her English dictionary and writing rhymes to develop her chops as a rapper. When Nina, the daughter of their mother’s absent American boyfriend, arrives for a visit, she begins to push Sakura’s buttons to break out of her shell. Treading on the complicated physical and felt relationship between the U.S. and Japan, Daisuke Miyazaki’s second feature is a nuanced coming-of-age drama illuminated by veteran camerawoman Akiko Ashizawa.
“Yamato is like a kick in the butt to the apolitical and inward-looking attitudes of Japan’s film industry and domestic market.” —Maggie Lee, Variety

TOURISM
FEATURE SLATE
International Premiere
When Nina (Nina Endo) wins free airline tickets, she leaves her dingy apartment and part-time factory job in Yamato City, Japan for Singapore with her friend Su (Sumire). Wandering aimlessly through the tourist district, they are underwhelmed by national monuments and return to the familiarity of giant shopping malls, selfie stick in hand. But when Nina loses track of both Su and her smartphone, she stumbles into a more unmediated experience with Singapore’s streets, food and people. Director Daisuke Miyazaki’s follow-up to Yamato (California) (JAPAN CUTS 2017) is a pleasantly lowkey riff on alienation and materialism within a globalizing society shot in pseudo-documentary style, replete with quirky dance sequences, Snapchat filters, ghosts and a mysterious child narrator.
2018. 77 min. DCP, in Japanese, English and Malay with English subtitles. Directed by Daisuke Miyazaki. With Nina Endo, Sumire, Takayuki Yanagi.
Miyazaki dissects his generation’s cultural angst as few of his contemporaries have done.

Kodo - O-Daiko - HD (japanese drummers - Taiko - tambours géants Japon)
A Message to the Victims and Survivors of the Tohoku Earthquake & Tsunami :
Thanks to (Merci à)
Ōdaiko : One of the most memorable drums of many taiko ensembles is the ōdaiko (大太鼓). For many, the ōdaiko solo is the embodiment of power due to the size of the drum, the volume, and the endurance it takes to perform. The ōdaiko is the largest drum of all taiko, if not the entire world. The largest ōdaiko are too big to move and permanently reside inside a temple or shrine. Ōdaiko means big taiko, but within any group, it describes the largest drum in an ensemble, which could mean 12 inches (300 mm) in diameter or 12 feet (3.7 m) in diameter. Made from a single piece of wood, some ōdaiko come from trees that are hundreds of years old.
Kodō (鼓童?) is a professional taiko drumming troupe. Based on Sado Island, Japan, they have had a role in popularizing taiko drumming, both in Japan and abroad. They regularly tour Japan, Europe, and the United States.
Although the main focus of the performance is taiko drumming, other traditional Japanese musical instruments such as fue and shamisen make an appearance on stage as do traditional dance and vocal performance. Kodo's performance include pieces based on the traditional rhythms of regional Japan, pieces composed for Kodo by contemporary songwriters, and pieces written by Kodo members themselves. The numbers that Kodo perform can change from concert to concert. Kodo's performance normally lasts for about one hour and forty minutes.
In Japanese the word Kodo conveys two meanings: heartbeat the primal source of all rhythm and, read in a different way, the word can mean children of the drum, a reflection of Kodo's desire to play their drums simply, with the heart of a child.
Kodo strives to both preserve and re-interpret traditional Japanese performing arts. From worldwide tours and research trips, Kodo brings back to Sado world music and experiences which now exert a strong influence on the group's performances and compositions. They also collaborate with other artists and composers.
Since their debut at the Berlin Festival in 1981, Kodo have given over 3,100 performances on five continents, spending about a third of the year overseas, a third touring in Japan and a third resting and preparing new material on Sado Island.
Hirano-jinja (Kyoto, Kyoto) Gochinza-kinen-sai 平野神社御鎮座記念祭
The Hirano Shrine (平野神社, Hirano-jinja?) is a Shinto shrine in the city of Kyoto. This shrine is known and popular for its gardens and many trees.
The shrine was established in the year 794 by Emperor Kammu when the capital was transferred to Heian-kyō from Nagaoka-kyō. From the earliest years, the shrine has been often visited by members of the Imperial family. In earlier centuries, the shrine also enjoyed a special relationship with both the Genji and the Heike.
The shrine became the object of Imperial patronage during the early Heian period.[1] In 965, Emperor Murakami ordered that Imperial messengers were sent to report important events to the guardian kami of Japan. These heihaku were initially presented to 16 shrines including the Hirano Shrine.[2]
The shrine has been the site of a cherry blossom festival annually since 985. The long history of festivals at the Shrine began during the reign of Emperor Kazan, and it has become the oldest regularly held festival in Kyoto. Each year, the festival begins in the morning with a ceremony at the mausoleum of former Emperor Kazan. In the afternoon, a procession travels from the shrine into the neighboring area and back.
The present buildings of the shrine were constructed in the 17th century, including

In a small town in Japan called Urasa you will find mostly the old people as younger ones usually leave for bigger cities like Tokyo and Osaka and rarely visit their parents. These old people live their lives by staying together and organizing social gatherings like this one. Here a guy who works as an operator of earthmover is opening a beer bottle with another bottle and a lighter. They organize these parties to remain happy and share their joys with foreign students who study in the local university IUJ.

Fishing still remains as the major industry in the Cabusao town in the firstdistrict of the province. There are attempts, however, to improve the rice production which can only be done if the farmlands can be improved despite the salty soil.
The municipality is composed of two Catholic parishes, the San Bernardino de Siena Parish and the San Pascual Baylon Parish. Every barangay hold its own barangay fiesta to honor their village patron saint. During that event, the village is lavishly decorated, especially the route of the processions.
The Roman Catholic Church and the local authorities work side by side for a glorious and memorable fiestas. Although there is a separation of church and state, as stated in the country's constitution, the Catholic Church as an institution occupies a very high position in the society. The present pastoral program is geared toward organizing and strengthening the SKK (saradit na

The climate and soil are suited for almost all kinds of agricultural crops. Northwest monsoon winds prevail during the months of late October to March. Southwest monsoon starts from June and ends in October.

Japan Travel: Kofukuji Temple one of four greatest temples of Nara Period, Nara20
Japan Travel: Kofukuji Temple one of four greatest temples of Nara Period, Nara20
Kofukuji Temple used to be the family temple of the Fujiwara, which is the most powerful family clan over much of the Nara and Heian Periods. The temple was founded in Nara at the same time as the capital foundation in 710. At the height of Fujiwara domination, the temple consisted of over 150 buildings.
Today there remain a couple of buildings of great historic importance, including a five story pagoda and a three story pagoda. The five story pagoda is 50 meter tall, ranking second in Japan, after the five story pagoda at Kyoto's Toji Temple with only seven meter gap. Kofukuji's pagoda is both a landmark and symbol of Nara. It was first built in 730, and most recent reconstruction was done in 1426.
While addmission to Kofukuji's temple grounds is free and it can be entered around the clock, there are two areas that require addmission fee: Kofukuji's National Treasure Museum and the Eastern Golden Hall. The National Treasure Museum, recently renovated, exhibits part of the temple's great art collection and is something that must not miss out on for lovers of Buddhist art. Among the many outstanding exhibits, the three-faced, six-armed Ashura Statue is one of the most renowned Buddhist statues in all of Japan.
Hours: 9:00 to 17:00 (National Treasure Museum and Eastern Golden Hall)
Closed: Opened all year round.
Admission: 600 yen (National Treasure Museum), 300 yen (Eastern Golden Hall), 800 yen (both)

Listening is a more natural way of learning, when compared to reading. Written language only began at around 3200 BC, but spoken language has existed long ago.
Learning by listening is a great way to:
- increases imagination and understanding
- improves your listening skills
- improves your own spoken accent
- learn while on the move
- reduce eye strain

SUMMARY

Tokyo (東京, Tōkyō, ; Japanese: [toːkʲoː] (listen)), officially Tokyo Metropolis (東京都, Tōkyō-to), one of the 47 prefectures of Japan, has served as the Japanese capital since 1869. As of 2014, the Greater Tokyo Area ranked as the most populous metropolitan area in the world. The urban area houses the seat of the Emperor of Japan, of the Japanese government and of the National Diet. Tokyo forms part of the Kantō region on the southeastern side of Japan's main island, Honshu, and includes the Izu Islands and Ogasawara Islands. Tokyo was formerly named Edo when Shōgun Tokugawa Ieyasu made the city as his headquarters in 1603. It became the capital after Emperor Meiji moved his seat to the city from Kyoto in 1868; at that time Edo was renamed Tokyo. Tokyo Metropolis formed in 1943 from the merger of the former Tokyo Prefecture (東京府, Tōkyō-fu) and the city of Tokyo (東京市, Tōkyō-shi).
Tokyo is often referred to as a city but is officially known and governed as a metropolitan prefecture, which differs from and combines elements of a city and a prefecture, a characteristic unique to Tokyo.
The 23 Special Wards of Tokyo were formerly Tokyo City. On July 1, 1943, it merged with Tokyo Prefecture and became Tokyo Metropolis with an additional 26 municipalities in the western part of the prefecture, and the Izu islands and Ogasawara islands south of Tokyo. The population of the special wards is over 9 million people, with the total population of Tokyo Metropolis exceeding 13.8 million. The prefecture is part of the world's most populous metropolitan area called the Greater Tokyo Area with over 38 million people and the world's largest urban agglomeration economy. As of 2011, Tokyo hosted 51 of the Fortune Global 500 companies, the highest number of any city in the world at that time. Tokyo ranked third (twice) in the International Financial Centres Development Index. The city is home to various television networks such as Fuji TV, Tokyo MX, TV Tokyo, TV Asahi, Nippon Television, NHK and the Tokyo Broadcasting System.
Tokyo ranks first in the Global Economic Power Index and third in the Global Cities Index. The GaWC's 2008 inventory classified Tokyo as an alpha+ world city – and as of 2014 TripAdvisor's World City Survey ranked Tokyo first in its Best overall experience category (the city also ranked first in the following categories: helpfulness of locals, nightlife, shopping, local public transportation and cleanliness of streets). As of 2015 Tokyo ranked as the 11th-most expensive city for expatriates, according to the Mercer consulting firm, and also the world's 11th-most expensive city according to the Economist Intelligence Unit's cost-of-living survey. In 2015, Tokyo was named the Most Liveable City in the world by the magazine Monocle. The Michelin Guide has awarded Tokyo by far the most Michelin stars of any city in the world. Tokyo was ranked first out of all sixty cities in the 2017 Safe Cities Inde ...
