[ OUR TRAVEL TIPS ]
›››Pack lightly! The larger the luggage, the more challenging it will be to get on trains and carry it around (Japan has a lot of stairs).
›››If you are carrying a large luggage and need a large locker, make sure you arrive early. Large lockers are limited.
›››Hard shell luggage are more ideal if you are traveling during the rainy seasons.
›››Make sure you have all your essentials when you throw your belongings in the locker. Carry your passport for duty-free shopping.
›››Another option to travel luggage free is to forward your lugguage to your next destination. These companies include JALABC, Yamato Transport (Kuroneko), and Sagawa Express

JR Yamanote Line 山手線
The Yamanote Line is one of the most busiest and famous railway lines in the Greater Tokyo area.
It connects many major railway stations and the most important special wards of Tokyo on its 34.5 km long circle route. A complete run around the circle takes approximately 58-65 minutes.
Because of the loop, the short train intervals and the many cultural sites and shopping districts along the route the Yamanote Line is a very easy and convenient way to visit Tokyo - except for the peak hours of course.
Trains are coming in 2.5 min to 4 min intervals and each of them features 11 cars and operates as an all-stopping local service.
About 1,1 million passengers are using the Yamanote Line every day.
Although the entire line has its own track, there are other railway lines which run parallel to the Yamanote Line without stopping at some stations:
° Keihin-Tōhoku Line: Tabata - Shinagawa
° Saikyō/Shōnan-Shinjuku Lines: (Komagome/) - Ikebukuro - Ōsaki
° Tōkaidō Main Line: Tokyo - Shinagawa
° Tōhoku/Tōkaidō Shinkansen: Tabata - Tokyo - Shinagawa
° Takasaki/Utsunomiya/Jōban Lines: (Nishi-Nippori) - Ueno
° Chuō Main/Chuō Sobu Lines: Shinjuku - Yoyogi (and Kanda - Tokyo)
Until 2017 all station are expected to be upgraded with chest-high platform doors to increase safety at crowded platforms. Some stations have them already (e.g. Ebisu, Ōsaki).
In the future (~2020) it is also planned to open a new station between Shinagawa and Tamachi - the first new station in 40 years.
In the meantime, the new trains of the E235 series are also running on the Yamanote Line and are gradually replacing their predecessors - the E231-500 series - which are shown in this video.

Stationen: 29
Eröffnung: 1885
Betreiber: JR East
Fahrzeuge: E231-500, E235 (jeweils mit 11 Wagen)
Taktdichte: 2,5 min bis 4 min
Tägliche Fahrgastzahlen: 1,1 Millionen

Linienlänge: 34,5 km
Spurweite: 1,067 mm
Elektrifizierung: 1.500 V DC
Betriebsgeschwindigkeit: 90 km / h
Tägliche Fahrten in beide Richtungen: 650
