Dejan Kaludjeroviç Müsahibələr – Azərbsycan fərdi sərgisi
27 noyabr 2014 – 19 yanvar 2015
Dejan Kaludjeroviç sabiq Yuqoslaviyanın paytaxtı Belqradda dünyaya göz açıb. Çeşidli təsviri sənət sahələrində əldə etdiyi nailiyyətlərə görə ona Avstriyanın fəxri vətəndaşı adı verilib. Vyanada Tətbiqi Sənət Akademiyasında oxuduğu sinfin rəhbəri Ervin Vurm olmuşdur. Təsviri sənət üzrə magistr dərəcəsini 2004-cü ildə Belqrad İncəsənət Akademiyasında alıb.
Kaludjeroviçin əsərləri bir çox şəxsi və dövlət kolleksiyalarında yer alıblar, o cümlədən MUSA, KONTAKT, STRABAG, Vyanadakı Artothek des Bundes, Zaltsburqdakı Museum der Moderne, October Salon Collection, Belqrad Şəhər Müzeyi, Berlindəki APT və s. kolleksiya və muzeylərdə nümayiş etdirilir.
Şəxsiyyətin formalaşmasını, təmsilçilik formalarının sabitliyini təhlil etmək məqsədilə Dejan Kaludjeroviç 1990-cı illərin ortalarından – peşə karyerasının Belqradda başlandığı vaxtdan öz yaradıcılığını istehlakçı yanaşmanın uşaqlıq dövrü ilə necə uzlaşdığının tədqiqatına çevirdi. Onun yaratdığı rəngkarlıq və qrafika işləri, obyekt, video-film və instalyasiyalar, əksər hallarda, müəyyən təkrar işlənmə proseslərini, surət çıxarmanı, hərəkətlərin təkrarlanmasını əks etdirirlər. Mexaniki çoxalmanı təqlid edən cizgilərlə o, populyar mədəniyyətə hopdurulmuş darıxdırıcı yeknəsəqliyi tənqid edir. Qoran Petroviç Lotina (Kurator)
Rəssamın təqdimat sözü:
Mənim işim, əsas etibarilə, məsuliyyət və manipulyasiya mövzularını əhatə edir. Başqa sözlə, KİV-lərin, təhsil sistemlərinin, ailə vəziyyətinin cəmiyyətə necə təsir göstərdiyini hədəfə alır. Mənim işim – görüntünün necə Qərb mədəniyyətində, cəmiyyətin qorxu və zorakılığa tutulmasında, kapitalizmin struktur və mexanizmlərində mühüm rol oynamasının araşdırmasıdır; yəni, araşdırdığım – kapitalist sisteminin necə “məharətlə” uşaq, zorakılıq və seks görüntülərindən KİV-lərdə istifadə və manipulyasiya etdiyinin araşdırması. Mənim işim, uşaqların müxtəlif mərhələlərdə cəmiyyət tərəfindən necə başa düşüldüyünü və bunun sosial təfəkkürlə necə uzlaşdığı sualını ortaya qoyur. Mən uşaqların istismar olunması və uşaq görüntülərindən kommersiya məqsədləri üçün istifadə olunması problemi ilə maraqlanıram.

Solo Exhibition: Conversations – Azerbaijan
Dejan Kaludjerović Conversations – Azerbaijan solo exhibition.
27 November, 2014 – 19 January, 2015.
Dejan Kaludjerović was born in Belgrade, ex - Yugoslavia. For his achievements in the visual arts, he has been granted honorary Austrian citizenship. He studied in the class of Erwin Wurm at the Academy of Applied Arts, also in Vienna, and gained an MA in Visual Arts at the Academy of Fine Arts in Belgrade in 2004.
Kaludjerović's work is part of many private and public collections, including, among others, the MUSA, Kontakt and STRABAG collections as well as those of the Artothek des Bundes in Vienna, the Salzburg Museum der Moderne, the October Salon Collection, City Museum Belgrade and APT Berlin.
Since the beginning of his career in Belgrade in the mid-1990s, Dejan Kaludjerović has been exploring the conjunction between consumerism and childhood, analyzing identity formation and the stability of representational forms. Most of his paintings, drawings, objects, videos and installations employ the processes of recycling, copying and reenacting, thus creating patterns that simulate mechanical reproduction, and criticize homogeneity embedded in popular culture. Goran Petrović Lotina (Curator)
Artist Statement:
My work is mainly concerned with issues of responsibility and manipulation. In other words, the ways in which mass media, educational systems or family circumstances influence society. My work explores the central role of image in Western society, the social obsession with fear and violence and the structure and mechanisms of capitalism; and how the capitalist system is using and manipulating the images of children, violence and sexuality in the media. My work questions how society perceives children in different stages and how this is connected with social ideologies. I am interested in the problem of the exploitation of children and the use of their images for commercial purposes.

Group Exhibition: Elshan Ibrahimov, Faig Ahmed & Farid Rasulov
Traditional and unaccustomed, re-designed and streamlined as well as going hand-in-hand with the present Azerbaijani carpets will be the next thematic issue raised at the exhibition by YARAT Contemporary Art Space. Carpets do not function as integral attribute of Lares and Penates, amenities and steadiness in the modern digital world. While some refined the carpets away from their homes, others fervidly store them; the carpets, however, still keep their capacity of being Hippocrene and totally unanticipated experiments’ tool for certain artists. Pixel-based carpet breakdown and puzzle-like flowing down construction is made from numerous components and demostrate strong resemblance to once popular Tetris game figures. Every participant of the exhibition has his/her own puzzle to have been resolved.
In this case, the number of participants are three... Faig Ahmed, a graduate from Department of Sculpture, Azerbaijan State Fine Arts Academy and 52-nd Venice Biennalle representatives strives to go beyond tradionally accepted frameworks and provoke transformations in ancient decor of Azerbaijani carpets. Being an organized matter, subtle and flexible at the same time, fleece establishes its presence together with cold-blooded plastic in Faig Ahmed’s works. His pieces have already won high opinions of the censurers and specialists at Art Dubai Contemporary Art Fair, which was held this year.
Farid Rasulov, an emerging artist, also represented Azerbaijan at aforementioned Venice Biennale. He produces original photoprints, in which western style-designed interior is enveloped by oriental carpets. Aluminium and organic glass-based animal characters emerge upon getting generated by incomparable grandeur- like in commemoration of Western and Estearn civilizations losing their background and breaking strong links with the Mother Nature.
Eshan Ibrahimov is delighted to present carpet decor-based computer games. The “Carpet games” he designed concatenates daily routine and the magnificent beauty, digital mindset of XXI teenager and ancient popular customs. In his interpretation, carpets, which were rejected by actual households, deserve home-coming yet through expressing fundamentally new character.
All participating authors are ignited by the idea of breathing new life to Azerbaijani carpets and proving viability of culture to get transformed and evolve as a response to time defiance. Their endeavours look exceptionally queer and curious against perhaps the most conservative and hard-to-change decoration item-the carpet.
Newly-constructed YAY Gallery opened an exhibition in Icherisheher on 28 September 2012. It is expected the gallery turned into artistic experiements space and YARAT Contemporary Art Space-implemented projects center.

Margret Eicher / Solo Exhibition: 'Regime of Images' / YAY Gallery
Margret Eicher is a German conceptual artist specializing in tapestry. Margret is famous for her enormous tapestries, in which she combines baroque imagery with well-known and familiar images of our information society. The central motifs of her tapestries relate to current images of photojournalism and advertising from print and digital media. The icons of our modern information society are reproduced in a conceptually well-founded piracy of images, taken from a wide range of sources. Her art is its own kind of symbiosis, a synthesis and a blend of classical traditions and modernity. This quality makes her tapestries extremely relevant today.
Her artistic position is not that of a creator, but of a creative recipient. Through a selective use of imagery, the artist reproduces a cultural or political statement. ‘Borrowing’ as a cultural and artistic act dates back to the twentieth century with the emergence of collages and montages. In Margret's works, this takes on a critical and political stance.
In her tapestries, the artist adheres to the predominant pillars of tapestry manufacture. Preserving the frame of the central composition, created according to the historical and traditional functional symbols and semantics, Eicher introduces hints of modernity in a canonized form (with stencil).
Margret Eicher's media-tapestries are high-tech industrial products and inexpensive handiwork. In Flanders, the birthplace of court tapestries, the textile industry is very active manufacturing copies of old images to sell as souvenirs on the international market. The artist deliberately chooses to replace traditional and expensive tapestries because this falsification of traditions is an example of amusements typical of our time, based on the collective use of intellectual property.

“Adiliyin gözəlliyi. Sakit qış çimərliyində palma, uşaq meydançasında təsirli heyvan obrazları, payız meşəsinin şairanəliyi və divarda qraffiti “qışqırığı” – bütün bunlar icra olunma texnikası və sadə obyektlərin gözəllik mövzusu ilə obrazların ritmində birləşir. Onların fraqmentləri, fikrimcə, bizi əhatə edən mühitin qavranılmasında dominantdırlar. “

Solo Exhibition: Transparency of simplicity
Transparency of simplicity... Beauty of the trivial... Whether it is a palm on a deserted winter beach, moving images of animals on a children’s playground, picturesqueness of a fall forest or a wall graffiti screaming — all is consolidated in a rhythm of images informed by the same technique and the beauty of mundane, the fragments of which determine our perception of the world around us. It is rather states than events, rather commemorations than a piece of paper, it is more about catching a moment with a series of alterations… colorful transformations. That’s what an experimental approach means to me. As far as this current collection is concerned, the speed at which it was formed was absolutely breathtaking and amazing . Everything was implemented with such a furious energy, with the author used to working in black-and-white classical aesthetic approach, but longing for a new perception and color sense.
This sense of color was originally inspired by the medium that was totally new to me, a 1967 Polaroid camera’s Fuji film. In my opinion, there is always more to it than just a snapshot to be taken or the resulting aesthetic effect. It is rather the very score, which is the foundation of performance (by Adams). From XX century chemical process I’m smoothly transitioning to a digital processing and printing of XXI century. I love advancing in time and observing the changes in cameras as photographers strive to combine the unique and vulnerable imperfection of a negative, new features and immense technical freedom of voice and color adjustments that digital processing and imprinting offer. My intention is clear - I’m striving to convey my perception of beauty of the trivial.
Azerbaijan Street Art Project Day 6: Photoshoot and Baku Artists
London Opera Gallery Street Artist Rich Simmons and Photographer Kim-Leng Hills were commissioned to go to Baku, Azerbaijan and introduce Street Art to the city. In 7 days, Rich Simmons had to produce 6 canvases of work to be placed amongst prime locations within the city for Condé Nast's Baku International Magazine. By working with Azeri artists, the President's eldest daughter Leyla Aliyeva, and Baku International, Rich and Kim-Leng visited the city and explained their organisation, Art Is The Cure, and the freedom of creative expression. Along the way, they produced a daily blog for people to watch their journey and love for Baku, Azerbaijan.
In this video, Kim-Leng Photographs Rich's canvases around Baku (although expected to be sunny, they hit some pretty bad weather so had to compensate). Rich, Kim-Leng and their journalist get to meet inspiring Baku artists Faig Ahmed and Farid Rasulov before their London show for January 2012.

The Art of Azerbaijan (Part I)
The modern art of Azerbaijan is known in today's Russia much less than in Western European countries. After the dissolution of the Soviet Union the previous inter-republic culture ties were almost cut off and the works of the Azerbaijani artists had virtually no exhibition in Russia. At the same time, the New Wave of the 1980s had raised the Azerbaijani painting to a significant phenomenon in the world art. Apart from the widely known artists like Takhir Salakhov and Togrul Narimanbekov other painters arose who turned to different, greatly diverse subjects.
Nowadays the works of Azerbaijani artists seems to be remarkable and highly significant phenomenon in the world art. Undoubtedly, easel painting stand out sharply against the background. The present and centuries-old traditions, the western education and eastern luxury nostalgia, the knowledge of modern art trends and masterful grasp of the artistic skills worthy of the old masters intertwined in their paintings.

The title of the exhibition seems to refer to the space and heroism, and sounds as an echo
of per aspera ad astra. However, astar means ‘lining’ in Azerbaijani – this notion is rarely used
in the critique and theory of contemporary art. ‘Lining’ (the same title is given to one of the works on display) seems the most appropriate word to comprehend the creation of the new generation of artists from Baku. It is exactly the lining, the basis that these artists are searching for, reflecting upon the surrounding reality and its underlying cultural contexts. An interest in the essence, the lining of the events gives rise to the semantic versatility and intimacy of most part of the works by this generation. The artists participating in the exhibition are visionaries and eyewitnesses. They don’t judge but eagerly study the world they are in. They care less about the issues of national identity or close integration with European culture (which are so important for Azerbaijani artists of the previous generation) than their personal freedom and possibility of speaking out, unbound by the requirements of ‘corporate ethics’ or ‘political correctness.’ It is through this prism of freedom that they assess everyday communal life, Soviet legacy, traditional culture, and the long and fascinating history of their country – in all of this they are looking for hidden meanings, reasons, and the ‘lining’ of things. This is why the works by these artists are at once analytical and dreamy – imagination helps better than deduction in penetrating beyond the ‘lining of reality.’
