Rand Paul Speaks in Owensboro Part 2 at Patriot Days July 2nd 2009
Patriot Days at Yellow Creek Park July 2nd
Picnics. Pioneer Village. Prizes. Free pocket-sized editions of the United States Constitution! These are a few examples of what the Rand Paul Campaign is looking forward to at this years Owensboro Kentucky Patriot Days Celebration.
The purpose of this fun-filled event is to educate young people about the principles our founding fathers held and defended so heroically. This emphasis on the foundation on which our country was built coincides perfectly with Dr. Pauls belief in small, limited government, a government for and by the people. In their efforts to convey this important message to all attendees, the volunteers hosting the event will pass out pocket Constitutions to all guests.
In addition to the good food, games, displays, and gifts, Dr. Paul will take a few moments to speak to those gathered about his exciting new campaign and the return to true Republican roots which he desires to bring to Washington. All who are Rand Paul supporters or who want to set aside a day to celebrate our countrys principles of freedom are invited to attend. Simply bring a picnic and some blankets or lawn chairs, or you may choose to take advantage of one of the park shelters instead.
According to the Owensboro Patriot Days blog, Patriot Days will be celebrated in Pioneer Village at Yellow Creek Park. The details are as follows:

Whelen WS-1000, Attack/Wail: Thruston/Yellow Creek Park, KY (Daviess Co. Tornado Siren Test, HD)
Copyright 2016, Brandon Mendel (Please use with permission).
Originally Recorded 8/12/2016
Story time. So, it's Friday, and since college was starting really soon, I decided to go record a siren somewhere NOT in Evansville/Henderson. I really wanted to do an ambience of Owensboro's system, which has some of the best, saturated coverage in the tri-state area. I set my destination to a cemetery with tons of coverage overlap. But unfortunately, I had to make a quick change in plans. I got stuck at a railroad crossing, which is usually not a big deal. But, well after the train passed, the signals were still flashing. No train in sight. So I was delayed maybe 10-20 minutes as confused drivers cautiously drove through the crossing. I was not going to make it. So, I found that we had marked a 2904 at Yellow Creek Park on the map. I could still make that one, but with only like a minute or two to spare. There were a few other sirens I could go to which were closer, but they were recorded before. Then when I got there, I realized I was screwed. I couldn't find the 2904. So I was left no choice but to set up for an ambience. About a minute before the test I saw a couple loudspeakers with a shiny control box below it. Could it be, I wondered. So once Noon hit, I was in for a sweet surprise.
After digging around the inter webs I later found this article. Looks like Daviess County is trying to fully replace these sirens. I was able to locate another WS-1000 at Panther Creek Park. That one is located atop a small building, and has a much nicer setup. I'm guessing these were refurbed at one point and may have been one of Owensboro's first Whelens. The article also specifies that there are eight mechanical sirens in the county system. So far, we've only found six.
Enjoy, and as always comment, like, and subscribe for more. Thanks!

The 140-foot tall bluffs at Yellow Banks Park rise above the Des Moines River and offer breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside. The bluffs are formed from loess soil deposited by the wind during the time of the glaciers. Hiking trails at this 552-acre park lead to scenic overlooks, an oak savanna, a Native American burial mound, and a unique backpacking camping area. This is a prime area for viewing migrating raptors in spring and fall. - See more at:

Drone footage of massive flooding in Daviess County Kentucky. Most of the footage is filmed west of Owensboro. A bunch more water still to come.
Let's Explore: Watts Creek @Hwy 119 - 2011_12_27
Checking out the culvert where Watts Creek passes under Highway 119 along Seven Sisters Road in Bell County. Nice scenery at the far end. Also saw an interesting little cave, but it was water filled. I'll have to come back with swimming gear and underwater lights to have a better look. Part of a personal project to survey the headwaters of Cumberland River. See here for details:
Whelen WS-404R Siren Test - Biron, WI
After the Mosinee Allertor, I headed down to Wood County to catch this Whelen WS-404R. The original plan was for me and Sam to meet up at this siren, but one of his family members that is not fond of siren meetups tagged along with so we could not meet up. I thought about recording a different siren, but I wanted to hear my first Whelen. I ended up setting up in an employee parking lot across the street from the plant and made for a pretty decent shot. As you can tell Wood County uses a bunch of tones to set off the county's sirens. So as I said in the vlog that I thought that the siren had dead batteries, but I do not think that that is the case. Due to this being a WS-404R I think this controller has a Noon Test setting on it and that what I think is activating in this video. As you can see by the video this siren is located on a paper mill. The mill is owned by ND (Nine Dragons) paper and no, I did not make that name up it is a Chinese company that owns a few paper mills throughout the United States and Asia. Also during this test, I had an audio recorder at the Coded ACA Banshee 115 that video containing the audio should be going live at the same time this video does to make up for this test being kind of a dud. Wood County tests their sirens every Wednesday around 13:30. Anyway thanks for watching please rate, comment, and subscribe!
*****Notice If you use these tones for ill intent I will not be liable. Tones have been adjusted to prevent malicious siren activations. If you do decide to use the tones for malicious purposes I will cooperate with law enforcement and invest all my resources to find you can bring you to justice. It is a felony to hack siren systems. *****

Whelen WS - 2012 Monthly Test
This is a video of the monthly outdoor warning siren test in Niantic, CT. There are only a few videos of the Whelen 2000 series on youtube, and none of the 2012, so I figured I'd go out with some ear protection on and film one of the tests. The Attack tone sounds first after the announcement, then the Alert tone. These sirens are currently being replaced by newer whelens, tall ones that don't look much like Sirens at all. Anyway, enjoy this video of a classic electronic siren, and comment maturely.
