Yume Japanese Gardens
There are dozens of Japanese gardens in the United States, and Tucson has its own version thanks to a European woman who has lived on three continents. When Patricia Deridder was 18 years old she left her home country of Belgium so she could pursue her passion for the Japanese culture and language. Fifteen years later she moved to Wisconsin with her American husband where they raised their two children. Later, Deridder started a new chapter in Tucson where she opened Yume Japanese Gardens in the city’s midtown. Yume is the Japanese word for dream and Deridder says the facility is a dream come true.

Gila Monster in Tucson, AZ, USA
We don't know how he got into our fully-enclosed Japanese garden here in Tucson. He was pretty fat and pretty slow. Maybe came in for a drink at the spa/pool. We've seen smaller Gila Monsters scale the high stucco garden wall before. This guy didn't seem up to that. After enjoying his action-packed antics for a few seconds, we had to actually open the multi-locked back gate and urge him out with the spa/pool skimmer. But we enjoy these monsters much better than some in Chicago. Filmed on 17 Apr.2011.

Flagstaff's Haunted Garden
Flagstaff's Haunted Garden
Every year Viola'a Flower Garden, located on Route 66, transforms into Viola's Haunted Garden during the Halloween season. Selling flowers most of the year the venue is not expected to be that scary, but according to Art Escobedo they really freaked some people out last year.
The event is being held for its second year this October. Family and friends of the garden volunteer to do the scaring. The haunted garden comes complete with a haunted trail, UFOs and a circus themed maze. At the end of the walk through there are pumpkins available to buy. This family friendly event is open to children and adults alike, allowing for possible family traditions to be made.
