Exploring Kagurazaka, in Shinjuku, Tokyo, Japan
The neighborhood of Kagurazaka in Shinjuku, Tokyo, Japan, was recommended to me by a Japanese friend so we went off the mainstream tourist path, got off the metro at Iidabashi Station, and made a short visit to the Kagurazaka area. I'm really glad we went - it was really chilled, relaxed and had a lovely non-touristy vibe. We enjoyed a quick peek at the local Buddhist temple, Zenkokuji Temple, and more-so, just walking down the main high street / shopping streets, Waseda Dori and Kagurazaka dori.
We lucked out and got to see both green tea being roasted in a tea shop, and some Imagawayaki 今川焼き (Obanyaki 大判焼き) shaped like Peko-chan being made at a little bakery called Fujiya.
The little side streets were charming, pretty and quaint too. A nice place for a stroll to just absorb the vibes of a quiet, non-touristy, residential high street.
If you're ever in Tokyo and want something relaxing to do, a walk around here may be just the thing!

A visit to Zenkō-Ji Temple | Nagano | Soba | Japan | VLOG | Mr Agathon
#nagano #zenkoji #japan #temple #tokyo
It's Raining when we arrived in Nagano. The weather forecast have been lying to us ????! None the less, we gonna enjoy this visit to Zenko-Ji Temple.
I have been wanting to visit this place since 2 years ago but haven't had the chance. There weren't many people around when we reach there. Probably because of the rain but it wasn't bad considering the heat we suffered in TOKYO ????. Whether in Nagano is cool & the mood is chill. I LOVE IT !!
Brief Description about Zenkoji Temple:
It is one of the most important and popular temples in Japan. It was founded in the 7th century and stores the first Buddhist statue ever to be brought into Japan when Buddhism was first introduced in the 6th century. The original statue is hidden while a copy of it is shown to the public every six years for a few weeks. The next opportunity will be in 2021.
The significance of Zenkoji to the development of Nagano was instrumental: many major Japanese cities have evolved either from castle towns, harbor towns or temple towns. In the case of Nagano, it grew from a temple town which developed around its temple of great importance, Zenkoji.
Just outside the Sanmon Gate stand one large and six medium sized statues of Jizo Bodhisattva. The temple approach leading up to this point is lined with shops selling local specialties and souvenirs, as well as small restaurants. At the southern end of the approach is Niomon Gate, the outer gate of the temple which is guarded by a pair of Nio Guardians.

Renkoji Temple (連光寺), Place where Netaji's Ashes are Preserved, Tokyo, Japan
Subhas Chandra Bose, known as Netaji is a famous Indian Freedom Fighter during the time of British Occupation of India. Netaji is the first leader of the Indian Army, which he created to fight the occupation of India. During that time, Britain was involved in World War II and fighting Japan too.
Netaji sought Japan's help in fighting the British Occupation of India. Unlike the non violent methods sought by Mahatma Gandhi (another famous Indian Freedom Fighter), Netaji wanted to defeat the British militarily.
In the end, it was believed that Netaji was killed in the fight with British but some also believe that he survived his military excursions with the British and secretly moved to Austria after India gained independence from British to spend rest of his life there. There are many stories and controversies surround the death of Netaji.
In any case, Netaji's ashes purportedly ended up at Renkoji Temple and have been preserved in a golden pagoda at this Temple. This temple has been visited by many Indian dignitaries, leaders and officials since their independence from British in 1947. To this day, many visitors from all over the world come here to see the location where Netaji's ashes are kept.
The temple (連光寺) itself belongs to Nichiren sect of Buddhism and has been in the Suginami Ward since the late 1500s.
Enjoy.

Zoshigaya Kishibojin ~A Quiet Temple in Tokyo~ [iPhone 4S/HD]
Are you tired of the hustle and bustle of Tokyo? It would be a good idea to visit a Buddhist temple or a Shinto shrine for relaxing your mind.
There are thousands of temples and shrines in the giant metropolis. Zoshigaya Kishibojin, one of them, is close to Ikebukuro area. You can feel the quiet atmosphere at the worship place located only 1 km away from the crowded town.
The surrounding old residential area is also calm. Strolling around there, you could feel nostalgic even if you had never lived there.

Nagano JAPAN | Street food at Zenkoji Temple | Salaryman bar and Night Time Adventure
Go to for the full guide.
We walked down an arcade street called Gondo, with lots of shops and restaurants. Then we headed off towards Zenkoji. The street leading to Zenkoji temple had many shops along the sides. We stopped to try some snacks; Oyaki (a pickled veggie version called Nozawana) and Taiyaki, a fish shaped snack . I had chestnut filling, Jives tried apple custard and Gaby had red bean. Nagano is know for their apples, so Jives tried the local flavour. We walked all around the Zenkoji complex and found an adorable shrine to lost postal deliveries, as well as a shrine to the lost souls of flowers used in floral arranging.
We then walked to find food, and found a old timey feeling salary man restaurant. We ate at a booth. I had a sashimi set and a beer, Gaby and Jives shared a yakitori and sashimi set. We then went to an arcade and showed Gaby purikura (Japanese photobooths). Jives tried the taiko drums and did really well. Then he tried a drum hero type game and failed. Then both Gaby and Jives tried the taiko drums. We walked home afterwards, and stopped at Animate along the way.

Iidabashi & Kagurazaka, Tokyo, Japan, 神楽坂 - Canon 80D - Virtual Trip
Iidabashi is well known to Franco-Japanese because until 2012 there was the Franco-Japanese high school where grew up and studied all Franco-Japanese and children of French expatriates in Tokyo. Since 2012, the high school has been moved to Takinogawa, much further north, in a much larger space.
Iidabashi is a residential area of Chiyoda District, perfect for living or spending time away from the noise, crowds and excitement of Shibuya or Shinjuku.
On the other side of the bridge and the Kanda River is the Kagurazaka district, famous for being the favorite neighborhood of the French, with many restaurants, pastry shops and French cafes. This district revolves around the main street Waseda dôri, also called Kagurazaka, which starts from the bridge and ends at Okubo dôri Avenue.
The street is all uphill, the atmosphere is rather casual and chic. In the middle of the street you can see the beautiful Zenkokuji temple.

A TOKYO MINUTE - Temples and Shrines
A TOKYO MINUTE - Temples and Shrines
Showcasing local temples and shrines around Tokyo.
How to visit a temple/Shrine
At the purification fountain near the shrine's entrance, take one of the ladles provided, fill it with fresh water and rinse both hands. Then transfer some water into your cupped hand, rinse your mouth and spit the water beside the fountain. You are not supposed to transfer the water directly from the ladle into your mouth or swallow the water
Behave calmly and respectfully. Show your respect by making a short prayer in front of the sacred object. Do so by throwing a coin into the offering box, followed by a short prayer.
At some temples, visitors burn incense (osenko) in large incense burners. Purchase a bundle, light them, let them burn for a few seconds and then extinguish the flame by waving your hand rather than by blowing it out. Finally, put the incense into the incense burner and fan some smoke towards yourself as the smoke is believed to have healing power. For example, fan some smoke towards your shoulder if you have an injured shoulder.
When entering temple buildings, you may be required to take off your shoes. Leave your shoes on the shelves at the entrance or take them with you in plastic bags provided at some temples. Wear nice socks.

Guys, I've decided that I'm going to take a more direct and honest approach with you, my viewers. And part of that real talk has to do with something most Youtubers are not that willing to talk about - money.
The thing with Youtube ad-revenue is that it's a complete joke, and the only way smaller channels can earn an income worth the time spent making videos is with lots of low quality content, or sponsored content. I dont wanna play that game. I want to make the best videos possible for you, my viewers, but making good videos takes a ton of time, effort and money.
Thus, I started Patreon to help with the costs of producing these videos. There's a few of costs like: travelling around Tokyo, entrance fees and the cost of my time (hundreds of hours scripting, shooting, editing).
A lot of my fellow YouTuber friends are using Patreon so that their audience can support them directly. I would LOVE to make working on this channel my full-time job, so If you feel that my content is worth it then please have a look at my Patreon page and help me grow Tokyo Drew. Let's make awesome vids together:
