Fausto Matias is a Portuguese born multidisciplinary artist recipient of various awards, including a 1993 Fellowship from the New York Foundation for the Arts in the category of Performance Art/Emergent Forms.
He was selected for the 1998-99 Artist-in-Residence Program at Movement Research in New York City, one of the world's leading laboratories for experimental dance and movement-based forms.
In the 1990’s Mr. Matias was selected to perform at several of New York’s foremost cutting-edge venues, such as: PS 122, The Kitchen, Dixon Place, St. Mark’s Church, Bessie Schonberg Theater at DTW, Dancing in the Streets, The Joyce Theater & Joyce Soho and The Judson Church /a venue where selected artists presented experimental works for open minded audiences.

The Village of Dornes, Knights Templar and the Zêzere River - Portugal 2018
August 10, 2018 - Amidst the backdrop of the mountains surrounding the village, what distinguishes Dornes is that it is situated on a peninsula, located next to the Zêzere river.
Dornes also has a rich historical past. The settlement has been around since Roman times.
During the 12th century, the Knights Templar came to this place and built a tower on the remains of a Roman tower to stand guard over the river valley.

Dornes, Portugal - The land of the templars in Zêzere
Since watching the Portuguese movie dot.com we have been keeping Dornes on our short list, mostly because of the views and atmosphere of this small town that occupies a small peninsula of the Zêzere river. We were very disappointed to get a rainy cloudy day for this visit and even thought we tried to keep our spirits up, we were certainly bothered not to be able to explore a lot more, we barely got a chance to see half of the things we wanted before the rain really made us stop the day short. I guess you can see in our faces that we were not very happy with our luck.
Still we want to try again soon once we are sure the weather will collaborate, and we are watching that movie again, if you haven't be sure to do so as it's quite funny.

SwimCamp Zêzere | SwimTogether
The winding course of the river Zêzere takes us to a magnificent lake between the shimmering and magical mountains of the municipality of Tomar.
In this area, you can swim in peace, in one of the largest dams in the country, only 600m from the hotel where you will stay.
During the whole trip you will be accompanied by experienced guides and will be taken to taste the gastronomic delicacies of the region.
YOUR ITINERARY:
Day 1: Welcome Reception
On the first day you will not be taken to great adventures.
Upon arrival at Lisbon Airport, we will transfer you to our home for the next 5 days.
We’ll do a short training on the river and end the day with a friendly dinner at the hotel.
Day 2: Discovering the Castle of Almourol
After breakfast, we will swim to a magical place, accompanied by natural islands.
The lunch will be held in the small village of Constância, known for the meeting of the rivers Zêzere and Tejo.
The afternoon will be accompanied by a boat trip and a visit to Almourol Castle.
Day 3: The conquest of the templar city
The day will be marked by the visit to the templar city of Tomar, where we will glimpse the beautiful landscape under the city, through the Convent of Christ.
But first, we’re going to swim around another island where there used to be an inn.
Day 4: The center of Portugal
If you thought you’d seen every corner of the river, you are mistaken.
We will discover a waterfall through a walk in the big route of Zêzere.
Here you will find a peace of mind without equal.
Day 5: The crown of the 7 Wonders of Portugal
Known for its pentagonal tower, we will swim the biggest crossing of our journey, passing under the first bridge that connected the municipalities of Ferreira do Zêzere and Sertã.
Here you will feel completely integrated into the natural surroundings.
Day 6: The return to reality
It’s been a unique six days, but everything good ends fast.
We’ll have one last swim at the river to say goodbye to this delight.
After a buffet lunch we will return to Lisbon to catch the plane back home.

A Walk along the River Zêzere
A guided walk starting and ending at Dornes
Vlog 003: Portuguese wonders - Tomar and the Convent of Christ
Today we’re exploring the city of Tomar which is about an hour drive from Nazare and about a 1,5h if you’re traveling from Lisbon. Fun fact: city of Tomar was designed as a cross with the convent in each cardinal point. To the west, on top of the hill is the Convent of Christ (Convento de Cristo).
In the 12th century, the convent was run by Knights Templar. When the Knights Templar was dissolved in the 14th century the Order of Christ replaced it. They used Templars wealth to fund all the expeditions in the Age of Discovery.
The convent was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1983.
The Knights Templar were the elite fighting force of their day, highly trained, well-equipped and highly motivated; They were forbidden from retreating in battle, unless outnumbered three to one, and even then only by order of their commander, or if the Templar flag went down. It was the highest honor to die on the battlefield.
There were actually three classes within the orders. The highest class was the knights, monks (they wore white robes) and the Templar priest which wore green robes, they conducted religious services, led prayers.
Knights Templar were one of the first people to create the basis for our current ‘banking system’. The pilgrims traveling to Jerusalem needed somehow to fund months of food and transport but without carrying loads of cash that would make them easy targets for robberies. That’s where the Templars came in. They would hold on to the money and issue letters of credit. Pilgrims would pick up the money in Jerusalem.
One of the interesting items in the complex is the round center of the church that was designed so that the knights can ride their horses into the church and around the altar for blessings before heading out into the battle. The shape of the church is modeled after similar round structures in Jerusalem, like the Mosque of Omar.
