Epic Battle While Salmon Fishing!! (He fell out of the boat!)
My wife and I went on our annual anniversary salmon fishing trip. This year was one for the books. Kasey hooked up on a monster king salmon who was angry and full of energy! The thunderstick bite was hot that day and we had tons of excitement. This was the only fish we got on camera but it was a truly epic battle for the books. It seemed like whatever bad could happen while fighting this fish did. It was amazing!! Take a look and see how it all went down!! Don't forget to SUBSCRIBE!

Sage-Grouse in Vale, Oregon
The sagebrush ecosystem is home to unique plant and wildlife species, and is very important to the overall ecological health of eastern Oregon. Many birds and mammals depend on sagebrush ecosystems in the western United States for survival. In the last century, drastic changes caused by livestock grazing, conversion of lands to agriculture, the introduction of exotic plant species, and fire have resulted in alteration and fragmentation of sagebrush vegetative communities throughout the Intermountain West.
The loss of sagebrush ecosystems are negatively affecting many of the more than 350 species of plants and animals that depend on sagebrush ecosystems for all or part of their existence including Greater Sage-Grouse as well as Pygmy Rabbit, Mule Deer, and Golden Eagles. Other examples of sagebrush dependent species include sage sparrow, ferruginous hawks, Brewer's sparrow, sage thrasher, sagebrush vole, and many botanical species.
This video was shot by BLM Range Management Specialists in April 2015 at a Sage-Grouse lek near Louse Canyon geographic management area and McDermitt.

Mt. Hood National Forest, Oregon: Meet the Neighbors in Estacada
Want to know a place from an insider's point of view? Just ask the neighbors! Luke Spencer grew up in the rural Oregon community of Estacada. He invites you to get to know the neighborhood with a day spent kayaking or paddleboarding on the Wild and Scenic Clackamas River, no experience necessary! Luke and his wife, Tanley, co-own Clackamas River Outfitters, and are the kind of friendly, knowledgable, and down-to-earth river guides that one would hope and expect to meet here in one of the Pacific Northwest's most breathtaking river communities. Afterward, bop on over to Clackamas River Growlers and take your pick from 30 rotating taps of craft beer and cider and enjoy the neighborly vibe, courtesy of owners Mark and Linnea. There's more to the Mt. Hood and Columbia Gorge region than meets the eye, so come on in and meet the neighbors!
Rising Tide International Day of Action Oregon Happenings
On April 20th, 2011 Groups around the world commemorated the BP Deep Water Horizon Oil catastrophe with actions calling for an end destructive energy resource extraction. In Hood River, Oregon, members of the community, people from the Northwest and guests from Canada handed a resolution to the City Administration calling for a shipping ban on heavy machinery bound for the Alberta Tar Sands up the Columbia River. People gathered on the river banks to fly kites, enjoy kayaking, listen to music and talk about alternatives to our destructive addiction to oil.
North Santiam River Home & Beaches March 28, 2019
The spring Chinook salmon that power over Willamette Falls are bound for some of the best fishing tributaries in the Willamette Valley, including the North and South Santiams, the McKenzie and the Middle and Coast forks of the Willamette River.
These rivers have hatchery programs that produce some of the best springer runs within easy reach of most of Oregon’s larger cities. Most of the rivers described below also host excellent summer steelhead runs that arrive at roughly the same time as the spring salmon and often strike similar baits and lures, greatly improving an angler’s odds of bringing a hard-fighting, delicious fish home to the dinner table.
Like nearly all Oregon spring Chinook salmon runs, these fisheries run in cycles, with up and down years.
Please also note that beginning in 2014, a Columbia River Basin endorsement (in addition to the usual license and harvest tag) is needed to fish for salmon, steelhead and sturgeon in the Willamette Valley and other waters that drain into the Columbia system.
Here are the best of the Willamette Valley’s spring Chinook fishing rivers (listed north to south):
North Santiam River
The North Santiam, which joins the South Fork near Jefferson after flowing down from Detroit Lake, is a moderately good (and occasionally very good) spring Chinook river.
While a few can show up in April, expect fishing to be best in May or June and often continue fairly well into early July before taping off later in the summer.
If a reasonable run is expected and harvest remains open for fin-clipped Chinook salmon through Aug. 15, the North Santiam is likely to produce 500 to 1,800 Chinook.
Boat launches are available throughout the fork from below the reservoirs to the lower river and on into the mainstem. Bank access can be found at numerous parks, boat launches and bridges, with more frequent access in the forest lands upstream from Mehama and above Mill City, where Highway 22 runs close to the river.

North Santiam River
The annual North Santiam float is back. The float will be from Packsaddle to North Santiam State Park.
Oct. 1st ought to be High Indian Summer and a great time for a day run the North Santiam. We'll put in at Packsaddle at 10:30 on Saturday, Oct. 1st, run for a couple of hours, find a good sandbar, have lunch and then finish up and take out at North Santiam State Park, which is about three leisurely, scenic miles downstream from the Fisherman's Bend, and a total run of just over 12 miles. There are plenty of riffles and play spots, and only about three rapids that require much planning. although at low water levels this run can be bony. Spencer's Hole and Carnivore are the two liveliest rapids, and one needs to know where to go over the dam at Mill City to avoid the rocks. (The dam should be approached immediately to the left of a small fountain-like plume that is visible from upstream.)
If folks would like, there are a couple of good breakfast eateries en route on 211 in Sublimity and Silverton; we'd be pleased to meet up and have breakfast at 8:30. Bring your own lunch.
