Mina de oro de El Callao (Venezuela)
(SP) Entre el siglo XVIII y el siglo XIX, El Callao, antes del municipio y antes de los españoles y la colonia, era habitado por indígenas Mariquitare en la zona, pero poco a poco, se fueron asentando algunos exploradores, buscando esclavos escapados. Estos esclavos africanos estaban en las cercanías del río Yuruari y usaban este sitio de escondite, si se les encontraba, eran devueltos a su trabajo. Pero muchos de ellos se quedaron allí pues era un lugar perfecto para hacer una población, mataron y esclavizaron indígenas de la zona, y fundaron la población de El Callao. Con el tiempo, vendrían hechos que harían a El Callao, una población con varias lenguas derivadas del habla de los esclavos africanos en esta región, mezclada a la utilizada por ingleses y franceses en sus invasiones a territorios españoles, y algunos pocos criollos que hablan español, en un país casi totalmente de habla hispana. En el Yuruari se encontraron grandes yacimientos de oro, que hicieron a El Callao desarrollarse rápido, hace poco hubo ciertos tratados con varios países del mundo para explotarlo.
El municipio se hace oficial o se crea el 7 de diciembre de 1991. Junto a la creación del municipio vinieron el escudo y la bandera. El municipio demuestra claramente su pasión al balompié, al dedicarle un cuartel (el derecho específicamente), en su honor, y también le dedican espacios a su principal economía, el oro, es el cuartel izquierdo, y en el inferior se ve el municipio completo.
(EN) The El Callao Municipality is one of the 11 municipalities (municipios) that makes up the Venezuelan state of Bolívar and, according to a 2007 population estimate by the National Institute of Statistics of Venezuela, the municipality has a population of 24,013. The town of El Callao is the shire town of the El Callao Municipality

A city of happy and friendly people, Carupano was very important at the beginning of the century, as the exporting port of coffee and cocoa. Now it is an excellent departing point to visit Araya and Paria.
The colorful carnivals of Carupano, are probably the best in Venezuela.
Something very curious in this city is the House of Cable, where arrived the first submarine cable between Europe and America, joining the French city of Marseille with Carupano, back in the late XIX century. This house is today the headquarter of the Tomas Merle foundation and the Paria Project, two organizations that are trying to improve the region through a model where Travelism, industry, nature and people can coexist with harmony.
