COLOMBIA - After 10 hours by bus a night spent in the beautiful town of Turbo, we continued our adventure by boat ... and what a boat. Hours spent in the Carribean sea on speed boat, with big waves. This is the way we explored Capurgana and Sapsurro and reached the beach of La Miel in Panama. After 3 tought days, we finally came back to Cartagena where we had the chance to relax for the last part of our Colombian adventure.

I don't love touristy places, but this was pretty cool you have to do it if you are in the area. after a short hike to the summit of the volcano (up a staircase) you can enjoy the warm mud. don't think too much about why the mud is warm, after you see all the people in it, or you might not get in. But it is worth it, no matter what lies beneath or in the mud!

A local tourist destination, popular for its alleged healing mud-bath, it receives most of its visitors from nearby Cartagena. The mound itself raises at about 15 m (49 ft) and it is serviced by an accessible staircase that leads to the crater, which can accommodate about 10 to 15 people at a time; there, tourists bathe in the dense warm mud and have the option of receiving personal massages from the attendants. The experience is then followed by a bath to remove the mud in a nearby lagoon.

According to local lore, the volcano used to spew fire, lava, and ashes, but it was turned into mud by a local priest who believed it was the work of the Devil, and ensued to banish him by sprinkling holy water into it.

Salton Sea Mud Volcanoes

On Valentine's Day, Marie and I went to see the bubbling mud pots at the Salton Sea (corner of Schrimpf & Davis near Niland). We met up w/ Lyd & Larry there. The video ends as mud gets splooged all over my camera. :)

Jumping In The Mud Volcano / Volcan de Lodo El Totumo

While riding from Cartagena to Santa Marta we stopped at the Mud Volcano and went for a dip. We got there early and had the place to ourselves. I recommend that as by 10am the place was packed with tour buses. I'm sure it would still be fun but getting to jump in was the best.
