According to ilivehere.co.uk, which has been compiling this list for more than a decade, with the votes from thousands of readers, these are the WORST places to live in England.
10: Blackpool
Once famed for its golden mile, Blackpool now conjures up images of drunken stags and hens, falling over in the street and spewing on themselves, before retiring to a grotty seaside B&B.
9: Oldham
The most deprived town in England according to the ONS, where the streets have been described as “graffiti covered, fly-tipped shells of what they once were”.
8: Sunderland
has the highest rate of teen pregnancies in Europe.
sexual offences, violent crime and theft are all on the up and are higher than the national average. (I’ve seen policemen on pedal bikes chasing chavs in stolen cars. You might not believe it but I really have seen it!)
7: Gravesend
One voter comments: I have lived in Gravesend all my life. I have visited many other crap towns across Kent like Lewisham, Dartford, Chatham and so on and not one so far, has even came near to being as chav infested as Gravesend.
6. BRADFORD
A Commenter says: Bradford is literally hell on earth. The city centre resembles a squalid cess pit, full of monstrous partially demolished 60’s concrete office blocks, Pound shops, amusement arcades, prostitutes, heroin addicts, Eastern European car-jackers, Asian drug dealers, pre-pubescent mums and mad alcoholic tramps having arguments with themselves.
Being the sixth largest city in the country, in terms of population, it now boasts another famous serial killer...
5: ROCHDALE
One in seven people in Rochdale had no qualifications at all. Weekly earnings were £413 on average last year, compared to £676 in London.
4. SCUNTHORPE
A town once voted the least romantic place in the country.
Apparently Maccy Ds is a chav’s staple diet. Well the small town of Scunthorpe has 3.
3. LUTON
One commenter points out; on Christmas day the local McDonalds gets busier every year”
Black, White, Asian it doesn’t matter, everyone looks like they’re trying to escape or have given up hope on life itself.
2. KINGSTON UPON HULL
based on official government statistics, Hull is the worst place to live in England.
1. DOVER
Apparentñy Dover only beat Hull by 16 votes.
One reader comments;
Let us for a moment imagine that the British Isles are the silhouette of an old man. Scotland is his cap, Cornwall his toes, Anglia his curved spine, making Dover his herpes infested s**t-hole.
Which do you think is the Worst Place to Live in England?

Daylight XPT Melbourne to Sydney
(Best watched in 1080p HD) Based on the British HST hauling Budd passenger trailers, the Australian built XPTs entered service on NSW country services in 1982. In 1993, they replaced locomotive hauled services between Sydney and Melbourne. In September 2018, we had the opportunity to ride the Northbound Daylight, the 0830 Melbourne to Sydney XPT. The train takes eleven and a half hours to cover the 960km (600 miles) between the two state capitals. This epic journey takes in sprawling city suburbs and sleepy country towns. Crossing the Great Dividing Range twice, we see the rugged moors of the Southern Highlands and acres of agricultural land, where brightly coloured canola fields (rapeseed oil) abound. The train makes 17 intermediate stops, including the original break-of-gauge station at Aldbury where, until 1962, we would have had to change train from the Victorian broad gauge to a standard gauge NSW service. The sleepy station at Yass Junction holds an unexpected secret. Each day, a bus connects with the Daylight XPT to carry passengers onward to Canberra, the Capital City of Australia. It's quicker to take the 1 hour bus journey than to carry on to Goulburn and catch a Southbound train along the Canberra branch.
PORT MELBOURNE - SANDRIDGE LOOKOUT - MELBOURNE AUSTRALIA
(PORT MELBOURNE) - (SANDRIDGE LOOKOUT) (MELBOURNE AUSTRALIA)
Port Melbourne is an inner suburb of Melbourne, Australia, 5 km south-west from Melbourne's central business district. It is split between the local government areas of Melbourne and Port Phillip. The area to the north of the West Gate Freeway is in the City of Melbourne. The area to the south is in the City of Port Phillip. At the 2016 Census, Port Melbourne had a population of 16,175.[1]
The suburb is bordered by the shores of Hobsons Bay and the lower reaches of the Yarra River. Port Melbourne covers a large area, which includes the distinct localities of Fishermans Bend, Garden City and Beacon Cove.
There is a nice walk from the Sandridge Life Saving Club out to Sandridge Lookout and back on Webb Trail – approximately 3km. The highlights of this short stroll are amazing views of the city across the water on one side, and a close up of the massive shipping cranes on the other. There is a viewing platform at the actual Lookout on the south-east corner of Webb Trail. The track is closed off at the point where I’ve marked the end of the walk below, although some older maps show it continuing around the container terminal.

(Port Melbourne) is an inner suburb of Melbourne, Australia, 5 km south-west from Melbourne central business district. It is split between the local government areas of Melbourne and Port Phillip. The formerly industrial Port Melbourne has been subject to intense urban renewal over the past two decades. As a result, Port Melbourne is a diverse and historic area, featuring industrial and port areas along the Yarra, to open parklands, bayside beaches, exclusive apartments and Bay Street's restaurants and cafes. The suburb also forms a major transport link from east to west, home to one end of the West Gate Bridge.
