Our visit Bishkek travel guide documentary covers some of the top attractions including a food guide (best restaurants and street food), top museums and the city by day. We also cover off-the-beaten-path activities you won't find in a typical Bishkek tourism brochure or Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan city tour.
15 things to do in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan Travel Guide Video Transcript:
Greetings from Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan! Hello from Central Asia. It is our first time here and we are going to be spending a few days here in the capital. So we're going to take you on a little tour and show you fifteen things to do around Bishkek.
First up, we visited Ala-Too Square, which is the central plaza in Bishkek. While there isn’t much to do here, it’s one of the city’s major landmarks, plus they also have lots of benches and water fountains where you can take a quick break. From there, we crossed the street and made our way over to the State Historical Museum.
Another place you’ll want to visit in Bishkek is the Osh Bazaar. It may not be the biggest in Central Asia, but it’s a bustling maze where you could easily spend a few hours. We had no problems at the market, but we were warned by several locals to ignore the fake police who may ask to see documents and camera permits. So keep that in mind if you encounter them!
It is shopping time. Next up we're at the Osh bazaar and you can find everything here. We're seen fresh produce, snacks, chocolates, clothes. Right behind me we have an entire aisle dedicated to dry cheese balls.
Directly across from the abandoned casino, you’ll find Victory monument which was built to commemorate the 40th anniversary of World War 2. The three curved arcs represent a yurt, and the sculpture of a woman standing near the eternal flame is meant to symbolize her waiting for her husband and sons to return from the war.
We missed the start of opera and ballet season by just a few days, however, if you’re in the city at the right time.
And if you’re craving a short escape from Bishkek, you can always plan a day hike to the nearby mountains with the Trekking Union.
As far as food goes, there’s plenty to sample ranging from grilled meats to dumplings, and noodles to mixed rice, plus there was one drink that really left an impression on us.
With our time in Bishkek winding down, we made a visit to Oak Park which is full of sculptures, and then we also visited nearby Panfilov Park.
And that’s a wrap for our trip to Bishkek. As you can probably tell from this video, this city is the kind of place that you experience as opposed to ticking off attractions, so it ended up being a fairly relaxing trip after a few busy weeks of travel around Kyrgyzstan. As always, if you have any suggestions of things to do in Bishkek, feel free to share your tips with fellow travellers in the comments section below. See you next time!
This is part of our Travel in Kyrgyzstan video series showcasing Kyrgyz food, Kyrgyz culture and Kyrgyz cuisine.

Things NOT to Do in Cuba
Did you know up until 1997, it was actually illegal for Cubans to mingle with tourists? It's okay now though, and today even Americans are allowed to explore the country that was barred to them for 55 years. This unique “time warp” island is generally safe and friendly, but there are a few things NOT to do in Cuba.
1. Don’t Bring Bling
The average Cuban salary is about $20 per month, so don't flaunt your wealth. Walking around with dazzling jewelry and slick smart phones can make you a target to pickpockets.
2. Don’t Take Pics of Police
It’s illegal to take photos of any military, police or airport personnel in Cuba. If you want to avoid unpleasant interrogations from the authorities, don’t get snap-happy in front of these officials.
3. Don’t Diss Fidel
It's illegal for Cubans to criticize the government. Of course, they may discuss things covertly amongst themselves, but you don’t qualify. So don’t dare to diss the Castros or Communism in casual conversation.
4. Don’t Blow Your Nose in Public
Cubans consider this to be extremely rude. If you have a cold or allergies, it’s best to take care of things in private.
5. Don’t Fall for the Jineteros
A Jinetero is a seemingly friendly local that suddenly charges you for assistance you didn’t really ask for. Some of these hustlers besiege you with hard-luck stories to guilt you into paying more money. This also applies to the escorts and prostitutes on the island who make a living off of lonely middle-aged tourists.
6. Don’t Forget to Bring a Few Gifts
Local hotel staff and guides appreciate cash tips, but also things like shampoo, school supplies or canned tuna. Some airlines allow passengers to bring an extra bag full of sundries like this for “humanitarian aid” purposes.
7. Don’t Get Short Changed
The official local currency is the CUP, however tourists have to use the CUC, but there's a 13% exchange fee when converting US dollars. Best to bring euros, Canadian dollars or Sterling. Also beware of Jineteros offering to exchange with you on the streets. Even shop keepers are notorious for short-changing and switching CUP for CUC!
8. Don’t Take Unlicensed Taxis
Cuba’s streets are full of these: and some even operate as taxis. Many are not metered, so you’ll have to negotiate a fare upfront. Watch out for unlicensed taxis, you may be setting yourself up for a scam or robbery.
9. Don’t Forget the Cigars
John F. Kennedy famously stocked up on 1,200 cigars before imposing the 1962 embargo. After 50 years, Americans can now legally bring back $100 worth of tobacco and alcohol.
12. Don’t Do Drugs
Cubans can receive the death penalty for drug consumption. Tourists however can be sent to maximum security prison.
Most important of all, don’t delay coming here. Cuba is a magical country you'll want to see before word gets out.

Novosibirsk Drone Flight: Novosibirsk (Russian: Новосиби́рск) is the third-most populous city in Russia, after Moscow and St. Petersburg. It is the most populous city in Asian Russia, with a population of 1,612,833 as of the 2018 Census, and is the administrative center of Novosibirsk Oblast as well as of the Siberian Federal District. The city is located in the southwestern part of Siberia on the banks of the Ob River adjacent to the Ob River Valley, near the large water reservoir formed by the dam of the Novosibirsk Hydro Power Plant.[20] It is split into ten districts and occupies an area of 502.1 square kilometres (193.9 sq mi). It is about 2,800 kilometres (1,700 mi) east from Moscow, 600 kilometres (370 mi) east from Omsk, 1,400 kilometres (870 mi) east from Yekaterinburg, and 645 kilometres (401 mi) west of Krasnoyarsk. // Novosibirsk is a city in Siberia, southern Russia, bisected by the Ob River. The Trans-Siberian Railway fueled much of the citys 19th-century growth, symbolized by the Novosibirsk Rail Bridge, which still stands today. In the city center is the 19th-century, Byzantine-style Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, with its golden domes. The expansive Novosibirsk Opera and Ballet Theatre borders Lenin Square. // Tsentralnyy Park, Bugrinsky Bridge, Park Kultury, Zaeltsovoskiy Bor, Новосиби́рск [wikipedia // Google]
