KPQ Escape Lake Cootharaba Mar 2013
Over the 9-10 Mar 2013 weekend, Kitepower Queensland held the Summer Windter escape Kiting and Camping Trip at Boreen Point, Lake Cootharaba.
A dozen odd campers and a few more day trippers took over the grounds and the lake and were rewarded with a nice break in the recent Queensland weather with sunny(ish) skies and up to 20 knots of wind.
All manner of kiters hit the water, Beginner to Experienced, Young to Old, the Good, the Bad and the Ugly!
Lake Cootharaba is a great spot for kiting at any level, but you will need to know how to water launch, or have assistance to launch, especially in onshore (Easterly) winds, as the beach is quite narrow, and large tree's back right onto it.
The Water is usually a lot clearer than the chocolate brown we had (from all the recent rains) but is a nice fresh change from the salt.
The camp grounds are great. Friendly staff, good facilities and less than a stones throw to the pub, which puts on a great Sunday roast, or a mean counter meal.
Worth the drive and the camp for a great place to kite.
