Day 2 starts out with a long drive from Jaco to Ojo Del Mar Ecolodge. Once their we hung out on the beach and took in the amazing scenery. We got to see leafcutter ants, scarlet macaws, and some cool crabs. It was a great day :)

The Magic of Simplicity - The Beaches of The Osa
The Osa Peninsula offers breathtaking, untouched scenery, secluded beaches, and abundant wildlife encompassing lush primary rainforest and a complex system of freshwater and marine resources.
If you haven’t visited the Osa Peninsula you are certainly missing out, it is one of the most beautiful and vibrant areas of Costa Rica, a representation of the country, small towns, incredible lush nature and beautiful beaches.
Playa Blanca - This is the “main” beach at Puerto Jiménez, within the Golfo Dulce, a beautiful beach surrounded by green mountains.
Playa Platanares - Located 5km from Puerto Jiménez, Excellent swimming conditions and great for kayaking and a beautiful area surrounded by nature, birdwatching is a recommended activity.
Playa Puerto Jimenez - fun loving beach with a beach bar serving everything from margaritas to fish tacos. Perfect for children as the calm and extensive shallow waters are safe and fun.
Puntarenitas - The white sand beach across from Crocodile Bay pier. Great for paddle boarding, and fishing, or just enjoying the peacefulness of the closest secluded beach to Crocodile Bay Resort. Walk for km's and don’t see a soul.
Playa Precioso - 10 minute drive from Puerto Jimenez on the road to Iguana Lodge. Enjoy this beach for long walks, boogie boarding and some interesting views out to the Golfo Dulce.
Playa Tamales - On the way to Matapalo, just 20 minutes from Puerto Jimenez, this beach is quiet and faces the Golfo Dulce. Great place for a secluded walk.
Playa Matapalo - South tip of the Osa Península, in the area known as Cabo Matapalo, great for surfers, horseback riding and sport fishing.
Cabo Matapalo - the first beach around the point that faces directly onto the Pacific Ocean. Dangerous and not recommended for swimming but it has incredible rock pools to explore and enjoy. It where the rainforest meets the ocean.
Playa Carate - The wild beach of this area which is one of the main turtle nesting beaches on the Osa Peninsula.
Playa Madrigal - Located within the Corcovado National Park, accessible through Carate, to go in the park visitors mus be accompanied by a local tour guide.
Playa Llorona - This beach is located within the Corcovado National Park, in the area known as La Sirena.
This is just to name a few of the beaches that stretch from the town of Puerto Jimenez and into Corcovado National Park.

Welcome to frog tv - I'm Adam baker.
This week I'm introducing one of the most Bio-Intense places on earth, as stated by National Geographic. It is Costa Rica's Osa Peninsula. Here you'll find a world of wildlife, nature and top eco-lodges that are truly magical and all of them are minutes away from the Corcovado National Park.
THIS - really - is Costa Rica!
Costa Rica's Osa Peninsula is found in the South East of the country. It's best reached via a short 45 minute domestic flight from San Jose into one of three local airports found in the area.
Puerto Jimenez is the main town on the Osa Peninsula and has a population of just 2,000 inhabitants. This area used to be famous for it's gold mining back in the 1960's but has since become 'the most biologically intense place on Earth'. Here you can find at least half of all species living in Costa Rica, making this region a must for wildlife enthusiasts.
This area of rare lowland rainforest enjoys a tropical climate all year round, and receives plenty of rainfall from August to September.
In October 1975, what is now widely considered the crown jewel in the extensive system of national parks and biological reserves - was established: The Corcovado National Park.
The Park covers a third of the Osa Peninsula, and is home to a vast array of wildlife including: the popular two and three-toed sloth, many colourful toucans, exotic species of dart frog, all four species of monkey found in Costa Rica, the puma and jaguar, as well as anteaters, coatis, ocelots, otters and crocs. - To name but a few...
To match the wildlife there is a great many tours to choose from, most of which can be organised from the hotels and lodges in the area. You can select from nature hikes to whale watching, snorkeling trips to scuba diving out at the Isla del Caño reserve. In these protected waters you can expect to see some amazing marine life from humpback whales, turtles, dolphins and much, much more.
The accommodation in the area encompsses nature retreats to true luxury, eco-resorts. The remote nature of the region makes for some of the most unique lodging in all of Costa Rica, run by owners who live and breathe sustainable tourism.
The Aguila de Osa Inn is found just outside the town of Drake Bay to the west of the National Park. All your meals are included in this family friendly eco-lodge as well as some great day tours that leave straight from the hotel.
Here you will find the best dive shop in the area.
Copa de Arbol is a relatively new luxury, boutique hotel that opened in 2012. This romantic, jungle treehouse hotel offers great ocean views. All your meals are freshly prepared and included in your stay.
Spacious, air-conditioned cabins are great for families or couples looking to get a true off the beaten path experience.
If you're looking for a true nature experience then the Lapa Rios Ecolodge is widely considered to be the best eco-lodge in Costa Rica. Corcovado National Park is the main attraction. There are 3 primary ranger stations which serves as the entry point into this park. Tour guides are highly recommended. Dry Season is a subjective term. Be prepared to get your shoes soaked and hike through ankle deep mud.
As of 2014 all visitors to Corcovado National Park are bound to be accompanied by an official guide
NOTE: You can only access San Pedrillo Ranger Staion on Foot from Drake Bay. There is a trail to Sirena but it's almost 30 km on the beach, with 2 big river crossings and NO shade. Your Lodge will take with a Boat to Sirena.
San Pedrillo: Closest entry from Drake Bay. It is accessible by either a 4 hour hike or 1 hour boat ride from Drake Bay. Boats can be arranged with your hotel. The hike comprises of beach and mountain hikes. You will also walk past various eco-resorts. There is a beautiful waterfall with a great swimming hole near this station. Ask the ranger for directions or guide to take you there.
Sirena: 2.5 boat ride or 8-10 mile hike. Please be warned hike from Drake Bay to Sirena ranger station is considered extremely strenuous and difficult. The stretch between San Pedrillo and Sirena is mostly beaches with almost no shade. You can camp at the Sirena Station which has showers and wide decks to sleep to keep you out of the rain. NOTE: Ask Sirena Station for food when you apply for a permit. They can arrange a light meal for you for a nominal fee. Very beautiful hikes around the area and highly recommended.
La Leona: Most Southern ranger station.
Los Patos: Only accessible by 2 hour car ride from Drake Bay. If you are hiking this to the beach, it is almost all decline and will take up to 7-8 hours to the beach. Better approached from Puerto Jimenez or Carate, not Drake Bay unless by plane.
There is also the Cano Island Biological Reserve. The scuba diving can be cloudy but the snorkling is excellent. It is about 1.5 - 2 hour boat ride from Drake Bay.
The little town is off the grid and very quiet, but walking around can make for an interesting afternoon.
AGUJITAS (Main Town Drake Bay): You can do the poisonous Dart Frog tour with Martin.
LOS PLANES: The little town of Los Planes is around 5km from Agujitas. It's a rainforest town with a lot of jungle hikes and a perfect spot to horseback. Check out Naguala Waterfall, refresh yourself in the natural pools and fish some tilapia. They also offer Restaurant Service. Oro Verde, is Alfredo's Place, a Rainforest Hermit who lives in the middle of the Jungle and has the biggest collection of 70' rock music in the area! Tesoro Verde has a own private 12 Hectares Reserve.
ALONG THE COAST: If you keep walking along the coast to the direction of San Pedrillo Ranger Station you will pass many secluded beaches where the rainforest meets the ocean. Coatis, Anteaters and Monkeys are often seen. At Rio Claro River mouth, lives Clavito who rents out kayaks to paddle up river. The next beach is called San Josecito and is a perfect place to Snorkel as there is a rock formation which forms a calm bay. There is a coral reef so bring your mask!

Costa Rica is a small country in Central America bordered by Nicaragua to the north, Panama to the south, the Pacific Ocean to the west, and the Caribbean Sea to the east. Since the late 1980s Costa Rica became a popular nature travel destination, and its main competitive advantage is its well-established system of national parks and protected areas, covering around 23.4% of the country's land area, the largest in the world as a percentage of the country's territory, and home to a rich variety of flora and fauna. By the early 1990s, Costa Rica became known as the poster child of ecotourism. According to the Costa Rican Tourism Board. This nation has bewilderingly diverse culture, climates, flora, fauna, and landscapes. From rain forests, to dry tropical and temperate forests, to volcanoes, to Caribbean and Pacific beaches, to high mountains, and marshy lowlands.
Costa Rica has a rich and vibrant history that first marked the history books on September 18th 1502. This date was when the land mass was first discovered by Christopher Columbus. Costa Rica is one of the world's most popular destinations for eco-tourists because of its biodiversity. Costa Rica possesses the greatest density of species in the world, and around 25% of its national territory is protected by a system of conservation areas and national parks.
Because Costa Rica is located between eight and 12 degrees north of the Equator, the climate is Tropical year round. However, the country has many microclimates depending on elevation, rainfall, topography, and by the geography of each particular region.

Weather in Costa Rica
People often ask about the weather in Costa Rica. Is it wet or dry? Warm or cold? To be honest, it's a little of each. It all depends on where you go.
Costa Rica is a tropical country with two distinct seasons—the dry season and the rainy (or green) season. The dry season lasts from December through March or April. During this time of year the days are often rain-free, especially along the Pacific coast. The rainy season lasts from May to early December and is marked by days that begin sunny but become rainy in the afternoon.
The Pacific coast has fairly predictable weather patterns; it tends to follow those mentioned above. The Caribbean coast, however, is less predictable and can see rain during any time of the year. The Guanacaste region is usually the driest part of the country, while the highlands are often colder and mistier.
Since Costa Rica is close to the equator, it has a fairly consistent amount of sunlight throughout the year—usually about 12 hours each day. In general, the sun rises around 5:45 a.m. and sets around 5:45 p.m.
