Lazise, Lake Garda - Italy: Things to Do and Tourist Information
If you are planning to visit Lazise and Lake Garda, in Italy, here you’ll find the best tips on things to do in the city, with a sightseeing map on the most relevant points of interest to enjoy, so you can easily imagine and organize your trip: WHAT to see, HOW to plan your visit, and WHY to discover this place.
In this video:
- WHAT are the major attractions that you can't go home without having seen: Church of Saint Nicolò church, San Zeno Gate, San Nicolò Church, Scaligero castle.
- Then, I’ll describe to you HOW to follow a daily-tour to better visit the city, with a clear map of Lazise and tips for nearby attractions.
- Finally, we’ll discover WHY to visit Lazise, with his rich historic city center.
WHAT
Lazise, located on the eastern shore of Garda Lake, between Bardolino and Peschiera del Garda.
Its name derives from the Latin “lacus” which means lacustrine village. Lazise in fact was originally a group of stilt houses.
What to see in Lazise?
The medieval Church of Saint Nicolò has frescoes dating from the 12th century, by the school of Giotto.
In 1405, Lazise came under Venetian Republic rule, but the castle and the city walls were built before, by the Scaligeri of Verona.
After the Congress of Vienna (1815) it entered a period of Austrian rule, until in 1866, it was incorporated into the Kingdom of Italy.
The 14th century La Pergolana villa, a kilometer north of Lazise, hosts a famous honey festival during the first weekend of October.
HOW
How could you visit Lazise?
I suggest you park just under the northern part of the walls. From here you can enter the narrow city’s streets, until San Zeno Gate, to move in Vittorio Emanuele square and then to San Nicolò Church. Finally, visit the Scaligero castle.
But then, I suggest to you:
- don’t miss the chance to walk north along the lake, to arrive in Cisano village and Bardolino city
- going south you could visit, by car, Peschiera del Garda or the crazy Gardaland park.
- in 25 mìnutes by car you can reach Sirmione and its thermal baths.
Finally, in half an hour by car you could arrive in Verona, the city of Romeo and Juliet
Don’t forget to watch my videos on Bardolino, Sirmione, Peschiera and Verona!
WHY
The city is a popular holiday destination in Southern Europe, thanks to its beautiful view of the Alps from the Garda Lake.
I love its Medieval walls and the way this city has a series of interconnected squares that house several open-air cafés, shops, gelaterie, where you can smoothly walk or take a break. I think Lazise is a relaxing place compared to other towns on the lake.

LAKE GARDA - BARDOLINO
BARDOLINO RISES ON THE EASTERN SHORE OF LAKE GARDA, ABOUT 18 MILES FROM VERONA. THE OLD TOWN OF BARDOLINO SHOWS ITSELF AS AN ANCIENT FISHERMEN'S VILLAGE, A NETWORK OF NARROW STREETS AND SMALL SQUARES THAT RISE UP FROM THE LAKE, WITH THE HOUSES SCATTERED ONE BEHIND THE OTHER STARTING FROM THE FIRST THAT RISE ON THE COASTLINE AND WHICH MAKE THE TOWN EVEN MORE CHARACTERISTIC . THE HIDDEN CORNERS, THE COBBLED STREETS, THE FLOWERED BALCONIES, THE ANCIENT COLORED DWELLINGS TODAY HAVE BECOME SOUVENIR SHOPS, ICE-CREAM PARLORS AND CLUBS THAT REVEAL THE NEW TOURIST IDENTITY OF BARDOLINO.
CASTLE OF BARDOLINO
OF THE ANCIENT CASTLE AND THE DEFENSIVE WALLS TODAY REMAIN ONLY THE TWO GATES TO THE CITY: SAN GIOVANNI GATE TO NORTH AND VERONA GATE TO SOUTH EAST, AND THE TRUNCATED RECTANGULAR TOWER ON THE LAKESIDE
THE LAKEFRONT OF BARDOLINO
THERE IS A NICE PATH THAT STARTS FROM BARDOLINO AND GOES SOUTH, TOWARDS LAZISE. IF YOU LIKE WALKING AND JOGGING, THIS IS THE PLACE FOR YOU! HOWEVER, IF YOU HAVE STROLLERS, CHILDREN, OR BAGS TO CARRY, YOU MIGHT FIND THE PATH UNCOMFORTABLE, BECAUSE FOR LONG STRETCHES IT IS A DIRT ROAD, THERE ARE NO SPOTS WHERE YOU CAN STOP, NO BENCHES, NO CHANCHE TO GET A FRESH DRINK... SO IN THAT CASE YOU WILL PROBABLY PREFER THE PROMENADE THAT GOES NORTH, TOWARDS GARDA: IT'S A 4 MILES LONG PEDESTRIAN AND CYCLE PATH, VERY WELL-MAINTAINED , WITH BENCHES IN THE SHADOW TO REST AND SEVERAL REFRESHMENT POINTS, CAFES, KIOSKS WHERE YOU CAN SIT AND HAVE A FRESH DRINK OR EAT SOMETHING. THERE ARE ALSO SEVERAL WAYS TO HAVE FUN AND MAKE SPORT WHILE YOU'RE GOING NORTH, FOR BOTH ADULTS AND CHILDREN.
SPORTS IN BARDOLINO
BARDOLINO OFFERS MANY CHANCES FOR PRACTICING SPORTS, ESPECIALLY WATER SPORTS. SAILING IS THE MOST PRACTICED, THANKS TO THE SCHOOLS AND THE MANY CLUBS THAT THERE ARE ALONG THE BEACHES. BUT NOT JUST THIS! FROM KAYAKING TO SUP, TO MORE ADRENALINE EXPERIENCES LIKE WATER SKIING OR A PARASAILING FLIGHT, IN BARDOLINO YOU WILL BE SPOILED FOR CHOICE! PLUS, IN THE SURROUNDINGS THERE ARE MANY ROUTES OF VARIOUS DURATION AND DIFFICULTY, FOR THOSE WHO WANT TO GO FOR A WALK OR A MOUNTAIN BIKE RIDE.
TYPICAL PRODUCTS
BARDOLINO AND ITS SURROUNDINGS ARE WELL-KNOWN TO BE THE BARDOLINO RED WINE AND OLIVE OIL PRODUCTION AREA, TO THE POINT THAT THE OIL MUSEUM AND THE WINE MUSEUM HAVE BEEN ESTABLISHED.
NIGHTLIFE
BARDOLINO IS POPULAR FOR ITS LIVELY NIGHTLIFE: JUST GET INTO THE OLD TOWN AT THE SUNSET AND AMONG RESTAURANTS, BARS, COCKTAIL BARS, PUBS, BREWERIES, DISCO PUB ... IT'S EASY TO HANG OUT UNTIL THE DEAD OF NIGHT!
BEACHES NORTH OF BARDOLINO
THE COASTLINE NORTH OF BARDOLINO IS A SEQUENCE OF PUBLIC AND PRIVATE BEACHES, BELONGING TO THE CAMPSITES AND TOURIST ACCOMODATIONS THAT RISE ALONG THE COAST, ALL VERY POPULAR THANKS TO THE CLEARNESS OF THE WATERS AND FOR THEIR LOW DEPTH, WHICH ALLOWS BATHERS ENJOYING THE LAKE IN COMPLETE SAFETY! MANY SMALL BEACHES ARE PUBLIC AND FREE
LIDO MIRABELLO BEACH: A PRIVATE BEACH, VERY BEAUTIFUL! WE ARE AT THE ENTRANCE TO THE HISTORIC CENTER OF BARDOLINO. THE BEACH IS VERY WELL EQUIPPED AND OFFERS EVERY KIND OF SERVICE: YOU CAN RENT BEACH UMBRELLAS, SUNBEDS, THERE IS A RESTAURANT AND EVERYTHING YOU MIGHT NEED. ON THE OTHER HAND, IS DIFFICULT TO FIND PARKING BECAUSE WE ARE VERY CLOSE TO THE OLD TOWN
LIDO DI CISANO BEACH: IF YOU PREFER A QUIETER BEACH GO TO THE CISANO BEACH, 1 MILE SOUTH OF BARDOLINO, VERY APPRECIATED BY FAMILIES WITH CHILDREN BECAUSE THE WATER IS NOT VERY DEEP AND THEREFORE THEY CAN SWIM AND PLAY SAFELY. IT IS A PUBLIC BEACH. THERE IS A BAR AND A PUBLIC PARKING
HOLIDAY BEACH: ON THE PROMONTORY NORTH OF THE OLD TOWN OF BARDOLINO. YOU CAN RENT BEACH UMBRELLAS, SUNBEDS, THERE IS A EVERYDAY OPEN RESTAURANT THAT IN THE NIGHT TURNS INTO A DISCOTEQUE, SO ITS PERFECT FOR THE YOUNG PEOPLE.

A week at Camping Eden, Lake Garda with Al Fresco Holidays | AD Press Trip
We were invited to spend a week with Al Fresco Holidays in Italy and stayed with them at Camping Eden, Lake Garda.
So one week before the end of the school holidays off I flew with the girls and Tin Box Grandma and Grandpa in tow. Sadly Mr Tin Box had already gone back to work so he wasn’t able to join us but it did give us the opportunity to enjoy our first multi-generational holiday abroad.
In seven days we had a brilliant time at Camping Eden, which is a super family campsite on Lake Garda, we took a boat trip to Garda on the opposite side of the lake and a day trip to Venice. Here we were invited to take a treasure hunt around some of the lesser explored parts of the city with Macaco Tour (hosted).

Disclosure: we were guests of Al Fresco Holidays and received our accommodation, car hire and flights in exchange for coverage on the blog. We paid for our own food and excursions (with the exception of our Macaco Tour) during our stay.

Hi there, I’m Claire – a mid-30s mummy to a busy primary schooler and smiley toddler, and wife to a Royal Navy Officer.
Tin Box Traveller is a UK family travel blog that I use to share our adventures and inspire others to explore new places. I’ve been a wanderer from the day dot. Some of my earliest memories are from living in Hong Kong while my dad was working there until I started school. Back in the UK my weekends and holidays as a pre-teen and teen were spent caravanning all over the UK. So it’s no surprise that exploring the great outdoors and new places are two of my biggest passions. Meet the rest of the team:

On 9 November 2008, she became ill while taking part in a concert organized to support writer Roberto Saviano in his stand against the Camorra a mafia-like organisation local to the Region of Campania. The concert was being held in Castel Volturno, near Caserta, Italy.[8] Perhaps angry about immigrant drug dealers cutting in on their turf in general, members of the local Camorra shot and killed six immigrants of African descent who were working in a store selling ethnic products in Castel Volturno on September 18, 2008.[9] Violent riots erupted among immigrants and locals prompting Italy's Minister of the Interior to dispatch 400 law enforcement agents to help keep the peace in Castelvolturno as well as other affected areas in the province of Caserta.[10][11] Organizers and construction workers working on Miriam Makeba's last concert in Castel Volturno were threatened by members of the Camorra to pay 2000 euros for the anti-Camorra concert to go on without incident;Carabinieri police officers were called to ensure safety during the concert.[12] Makeba suffered a heart attack after singing her hit song Pata Pata[13], and was taken to the Pineta Grande hospital. Doctors were unable to revive her.[2][14][15][13] When Miriam Makeba arrived at Pineta Grande Clinic she was surrounded by her entourage. She seemed to be feeling better, however, after drinking some cognac she suffered a second heart attack.[16] In his condolence message, former South African president Nelson Mandela said it was fitting that her last moments were spent on a stage, enriching the hearts and lives of others - and again in support of a good cause.
