LAKE GARDA - BARDOLINO
BARDOLINO RISES ON THE EASTERN SHORE OF LAKE GARDA, ABOUT 18 MILES FROM VERONA. THE OLD TOWN OF BARDOLINO SHOWS ITSELF AS AN ANCIENT FISHERMEN'S VILLAGE, A NETWORK OF NARROW STREETS AND SMALL SQUARES THAT RISE UP FROM THE LAKE, WITH THE HOUSES SCATTERED ONE BEHIND THE OTHER STARTING FROM THE FIRST THAT RISE ON THE COASTLINE AND WHICH MAKE THE TOWN EVEN MORE CHARACTERISTIC . THE HIDDEN CORNERS, THE COBBLED STREETS, THE FLOWERED BALCONIES, THE ANCIENT COLORED DWELLINGS TODAY HAVE BECOME SOUVENIR SHOPS, ICE-CREAM PARLORS AND CLUBS THAT REVEAL THE NEW TOURIST IDENTITY OF BARDOLINO.
CASTLE OF BARDOLINO
OF THE ANCIENT CASTLE AND THE DEFENSIVE WALLS TODAY REMAIN ONLY THE TWO GATES TO THE CITY: SAN GIOVANNI GATE TO NORTH AND VERONA GATE TO SOUTH EAST, AND THE TRUNCATED RECTANGULAR TOWER ON THE LAKESIDE
THE LAKEFRONT OF BARDOLINO
THERE IS A NICE PATH THAT STARTS FROM BARDOLINO AND GOES SOUTH, TOWARDS LAZISE. IF YOU LIKE WALKING AND JOGGING, THIS IS THE PLACE FOR YOU! HOWEVER, IF YOU HAVE STROLLERS, CHILDREN, OR BAGS TO CARRY, YOU MIGHT FIND THE PATH UNCOMFORTABLE, BECAUSE FOR LONG STRETCHES IT IS A DIRT ROAD, THERE ARE NO SPOTS WHERE YOU CAN STOP, NO BENCHES, NO CHANCHE TO GET A FRESH DRINK... SO IN THAT CASE YOU WILL PROBABLY PREFER THE PROMENADE THAT GOES NORTH, TOWARDS GARDA: IT'S A 4 MILES LONG PEDESTRIAN AND CYCLE PATH, VERY WELL-MAINTAINED , WITH BENCHES IN THE SHADOW TO REST AND SEVERAL REFRESHMENT POINTS, CAFES, KIOSKS WHERE YOU CAN SIT AND HAVE A FRESH DRINK OR EAT SOMETHING. THERE ARE ALSO SEVERAL WAYS TO HAVE FUN AND MAKE SPORT WHILE YOU'RE GOING NORTH, FOR BOTH ADULTS AND CHILDREN.
SPORTS IN BARDOLINO
BARDOLINO OFFERS MANY CHANCES FOR PRACTICING SPORTS, ESPECIALLY WATER SPORTS. SAILING IS THE MOST PRACTICED, THANKS TO THE SCHOOLS AND THE MANY CLUBS THAT THERE ARE ALONG THE BEACHES. BUT NOT JUST THIS! FROM KAYAKING TO SUP, TO MORE ADRENALINE EXPERIENCES LIKE WATER SKIING OR A PARASAILING FLIGHT, IN BARDOLINO YOU WILL BE SPOILED FOR CHOICE! PLUS, IN THE SURROUNDINGS THERE ARE MANY ROUTES OF VARIOUS DURATION AND DIFFICULTY, FOR THOSE WHO WANT TO GO FOR A WALK OR A MOUNTAIN BIKE RIDE.
TYPICAL PRODUCTS
BARDOLINO AND ITS SURROUNDINGS ARE WELL-KNOWN TO BE THE BARDOLINO RED WINE AND OLIVE OIL PRODUCTION AREA, TO THE POINT THAT THE OIL MUSEUM AND THE WINE MUSEUM HAVE BEEN ESTABLISHED.
NIGHTLIFE
BARDOLINO IS POPULAR FOR ITS LIVELY NIGHTLIFE: JUST GET INTO THE OLD TOWN AT THE SUNSET AND AMONG RESTAURANTS, BARS, COCKTAIL BARS, PUBS, BREWERIES, DISCO PUB ... IT'S EASY TO HANG OUT UNTIL THE DEAD OF NIGHT!
BEACHES NORTH OF BARDOLINO
THE COASTLINE NORTH OF BARDOLINO IS A SEQUENCE OF PUBLIC AND PRIVATE BEACHES, BELONGING TO THE CAMPSITES AND TOURIST ACCOMODATIONS THAT RISE ALONG THE COAST, ALL VERY POPULAR THANKS TO THE CLEARNESS OF THE WATERS AND FOR THEIR LOW DEPTH, WHICH ALLOWS BATHERS ENJOYING THE LAKE IN COMPLETE SAFETY! MANY SMALL BEACHES ARE PUBLIC AND FREE
LIDO MIRABELLO BEACH: A PRIVATE BEACH, VERY BEAUTIFUL! WE ARE AT THE ENTRANCE TO THE HISTORIC CENTER OF BARDOLINO. THE BEACH IS VERY WELL EQUIPPED AND OFFERS EVERY KIND OF SERVICE: YOU CAN RENT BEACH UMBRELLAS, SUNBEDS, THERE IS A RESTAURANT AND EVERYTHING YOU MIGHT NEED. ON THE OTHER HAND, IS DIFFICULT TO FIND PARKING BECAUSE WE ARE VERY CLOSE TO THE OLD TOWN
LIDO DI CISANO BEACH: IF YOU PREFER A QUIETER BEACH GO TO THE CISANO BEACH, 1 MILE SOUTH OF BARDOLINO, VERY APPRECIATED BY FAMILIES WITH CHILDREN BECAUSE THE WATER IS NOT VERY DEEP AND THEREFORE THEY CAN SWIM AND PLAY SAFELY. IT IS A PUBLIC BEACH. THERE IS A BAR AND A PUBLIC PARKING
HOLIDAY BEACH: ON THE PROMONTORY NORTH OF THE OLD TOWN OF BARDOLINO. YOU CAN RENT BEACH UMBRELLAS, SUNBEDS, THERE IS A EVERYDAY OPEN RESTAURANT THAT IN THE NIGHT TURNS INTO A DISCOTEQUE, SO ITS PERFECT FOR THE YOUNG PEOPLE.

Lake Garda Italy Highlights and Attractions (Lago Di Garda)
Edited video and still images from my vacation in Malcesine, Lake Garda in August 2013, staying at the wonderful Hotel Vega.
I'd highly recommend Malcesine as a lovely picturesque town to stay in, relax and explore. It has bags of character and plenty to do, but is also a useful base, at the more Northern end of the Lake, so access to Limone, Torbole and Riva is easy using the passenger ferry.
Food is excellent wherever you go in Italy.
The day trip to Venice was a must, however due to the searing heat and endless streams of tourists (I know I was part of the problem!) it was difficult to enjoy at the time, but now looking back at my footage of the Gondola ride I'm quite enjoying it more now in retrospect.
The day trip to Bolzano and Renon was really pleasant; a 2 hour easy coach ride to Bolzano, a pretty town with attractive, colourful buildings and great cable car ride into the mountains where we completed the rest of the climb by tram. Renon gave us great views across the mountains (I think The Dolomites were visible in the background), and some very interesting 'earth pyramids'.
The tandem paragliding was great and not half as scary as I'd imagined. To see more, watch the full video
A great vacation - I can completely see why people return to the lake year after year.

Top 10 Places Around the Italian Lakes
Top 10 Places Around the Italian Lakes according to DK
10. Sirmione and Southern Lake Garda
Sirmione is a comune in the province of Brescia. It is bounded by the comunes of Desenzano del Garda (Lombardy) and Peschiera del Garda in the province of Verona and the region of Veneto. It has a historical centre which is located on the Sirmio peninsula that divides the lower part of Lake Garda.
9. Lake Idro and the Valvestino
Lake Idro is an Italian prealpine lake of glacial origin situated largely within the Province of Brescia and in part in Trentino. The lake is surrounded by wooded mountains. The shoreline of some 24 km is shared between four communes: Idro (the frazioni Crone and Belprato), from which the lake takes its name, Anfo, Bagolino (fraz. Ponte Caffaro) and Bondone (fraz. Baitoni).
8. Bergamo
Bergamo is a pretty town of some 120,000 people nestling in the foothills of the Alps. Widely acclaimed as a city of rare beauty, Bergamo is famous for its wealth of artistic treasures and enchanting medieval atmosphere. It is a real life tale of two cities: Città Bassa, the busy and modern lower city, and Città Alta, the upper city with its rich heritage of art and history.
7. Centro Lago and its Villages
At the centre of Lake Como -- the Centro Lago -- where the three branches of the lake meet, stands Bellagio, with its pretty village centre of stepped streets
6. Verona
Verona is a cityin north-eastern Italy's Veneto region most famous as the setting for Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. Though close to the more popular tourist destination of Venice, many people consider Verona a more relaxed and pleasant place to visit. There are many tourists, but the number of tourists per square meter is lower.
5. Milan
Milan is financially the most important city in Italy. In essence, for a tourist, what makes Milan interesting compared to other places is that the city is truly more about the lifestyle of enjoying worldly pleasures: a paradise for shopping, football, opera, and nightlife. Milan remains the marketplace for Italian fashion -- fashion aficionados, supermodels and international paparazzi descend upon the city twice a year for its spring and autumn fairs.
4. Como
Como has always been an area of intense activity, as it has acted over the centuries as a crossing point between Central Europe and the Mediterranean. Built by the Romans at the end of the Piedmont road, it was an important communication point between Rome and its northern territories. In more recent times Como became famed for its silk.
3. Orta San Giulio
Orta San Giulio is a town and comune in the Province of Novara in the Italian region of Piedmont, located about 100 km northeast of Turin and about 40 km northwest of Novara. The town itself is built on a promontory which juts out from the eastern bank of Lake Orta close to Isola San Giulio, an island which also falls within the municipal boundaries.
2. Northern Lake Maggiore
With a length of 68 km and a coastline of over 150 km the glacial Lake Maggiore stretches from the Swiss canton Ticino in the north into the two major Italian regions Piedmont and Lombardy. Since the climate is mild year-round, the area is filled with Mediterranean vegetation and exotic plants. Surrounded by beautiful lake shore towns and villages with lush botanical gardens, amazing islands and a backdrop of Swiss mountain peaks the Lake Maggiore has become a top tourist destination, mainly for central and northern Europe tourists.
1. Isola Bella
Isola Bella (lit. 'beautiful island') is one of the Borromean Islands of Lago Maggiore in north Italy. The island is situated in the Borromean Gulf 400 metres from the lakeside town of Stresa. Isola Bella is 320 metres long by 400 metres wide and is divided between the Palace, its Italianate garden, and a small fishing village.
