Daly Waters Historic Pub Review in Australian from Shannon by Grasshopper Travel
When travelling the long distances in the outback where you lay your head down for the night can make or break the trip. You want comfort, air-conditioning and affordable digs for the night. Daly Waters Pub can offer you a heap of choices whether you just want to roll out the swag or put the kids to bed and sit with the missus on the deck and enjoy a coldie. Spend the day in our pool. In the evening and early mornings you may spot a Gouldian finch in amongst the red-wing parrots who visit regularly. Even the family dog is welcome as long as he knows his place on the deck & not in your bed. We offer multiple types of accommodation ranging from budget pubrooms to deluxe 2 bedroom cabins which include extras such as pod coffee machines & free coffee pods, each room is individually air-conditioned for your comfort. All cabins and motels have own en-suite, reverse cycle air-conditioning, microwaves, toaster, crockery refrigerator, flat screen TV as well as coffee and tea making facilities. They do not have cooking facilities: but why would you want to cook? The pub has such great food and caters for the rug-rats as well. We think that they are so special that we have designed their own menu including breakfast and their own Daly Waters activity book. Travelling on a shoe string then check out our budget pub rooms. Do the math 4 in 1 room would equate to $30.00 ea The rooms are basic but very clean all have new reverse cycle air conditioners, shared bathroom and coffee and tea making facilities. And if you are really a poor fisherman or backpacker who shouldn't have left home without his mother's credit card throw your swag down the in the campground. The pub grub is good, no it is excellent, and we have heaps of awards to support that claim. Heaps of variety and to suit all budgets. Try our awesome damper bread We make everything in our kitchen none of that pre-prepared stuff we start from scratch. The loin of kangaroo will get you hopping and the crocodile slider might make you a bit snappy but the chicken schnitzels will set you off clucking they are just so tender and moist! If you want awesome then make The Daly Waters Pub your next stop for the best feed on the 'track' you'll be drooling in anticipation. The beef 'n' barra barbie every night between April and October is to die for, succulent tender scotch fillet steak served with authentic wild caught Territory barramundi caught in The Gulf of Carpentaria off the boat the 'Andrea D' (Where have you eaten lately knowing exactly where the product was sourced?) And just when you thought it couldn't get any better a choice of fresher than fresh salads and the hot damper!!

Daly Waters Pub. Northern Territory, Australia (2011).
The name Daly Waters was given to a series of natural springs by John McDouall Stuart during his third attempt to cross Australia from south to north, in 1861-2. Stuart named the springs after the new Governor of South Australia, Sir Dominick Daly.
Stuart's first attempt, in 1860, had reached Tennant Creek. The second, in early 1861, pushed further north but again Stuart turned back. The third journey left Adelaide in October 1861 and reached Daly Waters on 28 May. The party had been pushing through difficult lancewood scrub and harsh terrain at a little over a kilometre a day. This journey was successful, reaching the north coast near modern Darwin on 24 July 1862. Stuart's Tree has an 'S' carved into it by Stuart during his journey.
The Overland Telegraph Line reached Daly Waters from the north in June 1872 and for two months a 'pony express' carried messages the 421 km to Tennant Creek via Renner Springs, Northern Territory.
Daly Waters Airfield was a centre for the London to Sydney air race of 1926, a refuelling stop for early Qantas flights to Singapore, a World War II Airforce base and more recently an operational base for joint military manoeuvres. Although the aerodrome was closed to commercial traffic in 1965 the original Qantas hangar still stands, housing exhibits of photographs and equipment from the area's aviation past.
The traditional owners of the area became the fourth Indigenous group in the Northern Territory to gain native title over both the townsite and ten surrounding pastoral leases covering an area of 30,000 square kilometres (11,583 sq mi). The Australian Federal Court had a special ceremonial sitting on nearby Newcastle Waters Station to commemorate the occasion.

Outback Barmaid, Renner Springs HD
youtube travel videos
Out here in the outback, pubs and petrol stops are the hub of the universe. It is not unusual to travel 300 km between fuel stations. Renner Springs is one such stop, slap bang in the middle of nowhere. It is sustained by a natural spring. All fruit, vegetables and meat come from Adelaide 2,206 km south and petrol supplies are freighted 836 km from Darwin. I interviewed Jasmine, a bar maid at Renner for the last two years.
