1. Elmira, Ontario for the Elmira Maple Syrup Festival
The world’s largest single-day maple syrup festival takes place in Elmira, Ontario on the 7th of April.
This event has taken place annually for over 50 years, drawing visitors from near and far to explore the town’s sugar bushes and learn how maple syrup is made. Make sure you save room for a plate of pancakes topped with a generous portion of Elmira’s famous maple syrup.
Stay in the nearby city of Waterloo, just a 20-minute drive from Elmira, at the Courtyard by Marriott Waterloo St. Jacobs.
2. St. Albans, Vermont for the Vermont Maple Festival
In April of each year, the city of St. Albans comes together to celebrate everything maple. Over the course of the weekend, festival-goers can explore exhibitions and watch recipe demonstrations all dedicated to the sweet stuff. The weekend is wrapped up with a pancake breakfast and the crowning of the festival’s Maple King and Maple Queen.
La Quinta Inn & Suites St. Albans is situated walking distance from the city centre, making it easy to get to and from the festivities.
3. Dover Plains, New York for the Maple Weekend
During Maple Weekend, sugar houses across the state of New York open their doors to visitors interested in seeing first-hand how maple syrup is created, from tree to table. Located in Dover Plains, Madava Farms is a modern facility with an extensive line of maple products and even an on-site restaurant. For a truly unique experience, be sure to check out their moonlight mapling sessions on Saturday evenings.

4. Greenwood, Maine for the Maine Maple Sunday
Each year, the fourth Sunday of May marks Maine Maple Sunday in the town of Greenwood. With free tastings and demonstrations taking place at numerous sugar houses, this day is a treat for residents and visitors alike. Located in Maine’s western foothills, Velvet Hollow Sugar Works at Dunham Farm has a dedicated gluten-free sugar house that offers a wide selection of products as well as cooking classes, seminars and tours.
A 20-minute drive from Greenwood in Bethel, the Bethel Inn Resort offers on-site sporting activities as well as a spa to relax in after getting your fill of maple products.
5. Chester, New Hampshire in the New Hampshire Maple Weekend
For one weekend in March, 60 sugar houses play host to the New Hampshire Maple Weekend. Watch the maple syrup production process in action and see how sugar houses today are mixing modern methods with ancient tricks to produce our favourite maple treats. Located in the city of Chester, Ryan’s Sugar Shack was opened in 2013 by 13-year-old Ryan Neal. What began as a hobby of tapping trees in his backyard has transformed into a 1000+ tap operation and full-scale sugar house, open to the public for tours.
Just a 15-minute drive from Chester, the Sleep Inn Londonderryhas an indoor pool and hot tub, perfect for unwinding after a day at the festival.

Where Nobel Prize Winners Go to School | Episode #42
In this video, we head to the city of Guelph in Ontario to see a 200-Year Old Church called the Victory School, built after the first world war. This is where Donna Strickland , the 2018 Nobel Prize Winner went to school. The school opened its door during a special event called Doors Open Ontario 2019. Those sites are not open to the public year round and available to see only once a year exclusively during this event.

Sandy Hills Pinery Trail, Elmira Ontario
The Elmira Moraine comprises sandy, hilly terrain. In 1945, Waterloo County bought 2 land parcels of 69 hectares (170 acres) total. School children replanted it with pine seedlings in the 1950s. This now-mature coniferous forest has 4 km of foot trails. These landscape and foliage close-up images including wild ginger, the male fern and goldenrod are accompanied by William Ackerman performing 'The Opening of Doors'', and bookended with reflections about life's meaning by Friedrich Nietzsche.
