The city's original Byzantine name, Χλέρινον (Chlérinon, full of green vegetation), derives from the Greek word χλωρός (chlōrós, fresh or green vegetation). The name was sometimes Latinized as Florinon (from the Latinflora, vegetation) in the later Byzantine period, and in early Ottoman documents the forms Chlerina and Florina are both used, with the latter becoming standard after the 17th century. The form with (φλωρός) is a local dialect form of χλωρός in Greek.

Florina (Greek: Φλώρινα) is a town and municipality in mountainous northwestern Macedonia of Greece. Its motto is, 'Where Greece begins'. It is also the Metropolitan seat for the region. It lies in the central part of Florina peripheral unit, of which it is the capital. Florina belongs to the periphery of West Macedonia. The town's population is 16,771 people (2001 census). It is in a wooded valley about 13 km (8 mi) south of the international border of Greece with FYROM.
Several etymological interpretations ave been attempted and assumptions have been made concerning the origin of the name of Florina. According to one mythological interpretation the name of the town derives from the mythical Dioskouros Kastoras and his ally Floris. The Byzantine historian kantakouzinos refers to the Byzantine castle Flerinon or Hlerinon , the secretary of the Enetic Republic G. Cavazza on his wary from Ahrida in 1591 passes by through Fluribelli; where as the Turkish interpretation of the town's name, salvaged by the Albanian invaders of the 17th and 18th century, refers to the Filourina version which dervies frm filouri meaning old coin. In 1750 the name Herinos or Filorina appears in ecclesiastical documents.

Thanks Greece - Our Heritage (A video from Spain)
Another video sympathy in Greece was initiated by Spanish students and teachers of Murcia. Dozens of children, teachers, professors, as well as employees, remind people of the ancient Greek heritage: the linguistic wealth, the contribution of ancient Greece in the Republic, the Arts, Culture and beyond. And found a special way to pay tribute to Greece for what he has offered to mankind today.

Lassithi Crete, Greece HD
The Prefecture of Lassithi, Crete, or Agios Nikolaos as some call it after its capital, covers the eastern part of the island. It is washed by the Cretan Sea in the north, the Carpathian Sea in the east and the Libyan Sea in the south, while its west border is shared with the Heraklion Prefecture.
The prefecture is well-known for its interesting archaeological sites, as well as the one-of-a-kind in Europe Palm Tree Forest at Vai beach. Apart from its historical monuments, amazing natural beauty, imposing mountain ranges, impressive gorges, lush fields and dazzling beaches, you will find picturesque villages and friendly, warm-hearted inhabitants. As with the rest of Crete, visiting the inland is a fascinating experience. The combination of environmental beauty and the unique flair of the villages makes the visitor experience strong feelings. The villages, mostly untouched by tourism, maintain their traditional features in terms of architecture and the villagers proudly keep their traditional lifestyle. Here, the visitor may engage in a wide range of cultural activities, where tradition blends with everyday life.

Macedonia today is a geographical region of Greece, and the largest of the Greek territory.
It constitutes most of the geographic and historical region of ancient Macedon, a Greek kingdom ruled by the Argeads whose most celebrated members were Alexander the Great and his father Philip II.
In 336 B.C., Alexander the Great became the leader of the Greek kingdom of Macedonia. By the time he died 13 years later, Alexander had built an empire that stretched from Greece all the way to India. That brief but thorough empire-building campaign changed the world: It spread Greek ideas and culture from the Eastern Mediterranean to Asia. Historians call this era the Hellenistic period.
The name Macedonia was later applied to identify various administrative areas in the Roman and Byzantine Empires with widely differing borders.
