=================Tips to Travel El Salvador=================
1. They use US Dollars
a. This can add up quickly when in touristy areas such as El Tunco. However, a meal is still quite reasonable, and will cost between $3-$10, depending how fancy you get. Beer is very cheap at $1, both at the bars and convenience stores.
b. Budget $15 a night for accommodation at hostels.
2. Taxis are surprisingly expensive
a. The airport to El Tunco cost $40 USD
b. El Tunco to Juayua was about $60 USD
c. Juayua to Airport was $90 USD
3. Busses are cheap
a. Chicken bus from Juayua to Ataco cost $0.50
b. Bus from Juayua to Airport takes half the day, but costs about $3
4. Very safe in TOURISTY areas
a. We were never hassled, even though I had my DSLR and mic the whole time
b. People will look at you but everyone is very friendly
c. Juayua and El Tunco are very touristy places, we never once felt threatened
d. Please do your own research if going to San Salvador
5. Go hiking with a guide
a. For any hikes it is recommended to go with a guide since there have been robberies in trails and forested areas. It is definitely worth paying $20 for assurance
6. Hire the same driver
a. If you find a driver that seems friendly, offer to pay him for the entire day. This is a much quicker way to get around, and will be safer than the busses. Having said that, busses seem okay as well
7. Food was AMAZING
Recommended foods, Pupusas, Empanadas, Yuca Frita, Pastelitos
a.
b. GARLIC Pupusas are the best
c. Juayua Food festival is every weekend and MUST ATTEND

El Salvador has several tourist routes where you can discover the best of nature, history and Salvadoran traditions. One of the most popular is the Ruta de las Flores, covering various natural areas and villages that compete to see which is the most beautiful. The first two towns that we visit are Juayúa and Apaneca which have many things in common. A nice central park, a peaceful life and especially two spectacular churches, each of them more beautiful that the other. Here is the church of Santa Lucia in Juayúa, and here the Church of San Andres Apostol in Apaneca. I will show you, and you will decide which one you like the most.
Next to Apaneca is Cerro Verde, a National Park of over 2500 hectares whose great attraction is hiking to the top of the volcanoes, although for people who are lazy like me have several less physically demanding trails, where we will walk surrounded by the best variety of native nature. Along the route you can enjoy the view of Lake Coatepeque, the impressive ceiba trees and some semi-wild species, like this fake Tarzan wannabe.
The best way to meet the immense beauty of the Ruta de las Flores is from the heights. And maybe you have the same problem that I have, I was not born a bird, I was born a human. But relax, here they solve this little problem. In order to solve the small human problem of not having wings, they have installed a zip line in the area of coffee plantations, where you can enjoy even more of the beauty of the Ruta de las Flores, with a touch of adrenaline.
At first, I said that the municipalities of the Ruta de las Flores compete to see which is the most beautiful. If the first two are proud of their churches, Salcoatitán and Actaco are proud of art. In the municipality of Salcoatitán the most impressive are the ceibas, these imposing trees that are a symbol of Central America. But what I have to show you are these mosaics that decorate walls and city parks. A beautiful and laborious craftsmanship with which Salcoatitán also tells its history, claiming to be the prettiest village in the Ruta de las Flores.
If Salcoatitán is proud of its mosaics, the streets of Ataco show wall paintings depicting scenes from their daily lives and cats. Because… tell me the truth, who doesn’t like cats? This mural gallery has made the town famous, and every year increased are the paintings that are shown on the walls of the houses of Ataco so, within a very short time, this small town will become one of the largest museums in America.
During these days I have enjoyed many places of this great little country. Its capital San Salvador, idyllic beaches, colonial cities, exuberant nature, traditions, gastronomy ... and if you ask me which is what I liked the most, I have the answer very clear, the best of El Salvador is this.

El Salvadors Four Beer's Davidsbeenhere
El Salvadors Four Beer's Davidsbeenhere
This DBH Special finds itself in the middle of El Salvador's Lake Coatepeque, one of the most beautiful and exclusive spots in the country. Here David gives the country's four top beers, Suprema, Pilsener, Golden Light and Regia the official taste test to see which brew comes out on top. Locals say Regia, the cheapest but most flavorful is the top pick, but David seems to side with the Heineken-esk Suprema. On the lesser side of the spectrum, Pilsener, well, should be left to the Czechs, and Golden Light should be reserved for the more 'sensitive' drinkers. But don't just take David's word for it- try them all yourself! Visit this beautiful country with the DBH Guide to El Salvador and bring your own input into the Taste Test. BLOG POST:
This video is worth watching just to see how ridiculous I look with this massive scrape on my face! Got through about by a wave in El Tunco, as I was hanging out at the beach and trying to catch some waves. Got thrown by the big evening waves, and broke my face on the El Tunco beach, with my face. Cleaned it up and the next day we headed to a town just north of El Tunco, know as Tamanique to go see some beautiful waterfalls. Being that El Tunco, and the El Salvador coast is pretty spread out, and El Tunco is so small, it was an interesting, peaceful drive up the hill away from El Tunco towards the town of Tamanique. Weaving through the jungle and small houses on the side of the road we pulled into the small town of Tamanique, about 30 minutes from El Tunco.
Arriving in El Tunco:
From our El Tunco hostel, Papaya's, the night guard was our tour guide and lead us from the parking spot, with a kid who followed us shooting rocks from his slingshot, along the old farming road, towards the path that led down to the beautiful waterfalls. The water moves its way through the cracks in the rock it has made from millions of years of rolling over the same areas and you can enter under the beautiful waterfalls by a waterslide made by nature. The stream trickles down the rock, and has made it extremely smooth, smooth enough to sit down and slide into the pools under the waterfalls.
We jumped into some of the waterfall pools and clambered our way down the hill to the final beautiful waterfall. A gorgeous day in the jungle of El Salvador, enjoying some beautiful waterfalls, and then back to El Tunco.
