Yogyakarta, Indonesia - Travel Around The World | Top best places to visit in Yogyakarta
Top best places to visit in Yogyakarta, Indonesia
Yogyakarta is in the southern part of the Central Java province in Indonesia.
Jogjakarta or just Jogja is a major tourist destination in Indonesia and number 1 in Java.
The cultural and political heart of this city is the Kraton Complex.
Kraton is a palace, the main seat of Sultan of Yogyakarta and his family.
It is large and difficult to navigate by foot.
It includes: the main palace, the Sultan’s residential area, two Sultan’s grounds, large residential area, and a museum with sultanate’s artifacts.
Built in 18th-century is one of the finest examples of Javanese palace architecture.
And also a great example of local culture. There you can hear live music and enjoy the sites of dignified elderly dressed in traditional wear.
Also a part of the Kraton Complex is Taman Sari Water Castle.
In the past this interesting site has had multiple functions such as a royal garden, workshops, a meditation place and a defense area.
The north–south line between the palace and the volcano is also a major street in Jogja called Jalan Malioboro.
This shopping center is full of street artists, musicians, painters, trishaws and horse carts.
And it is also surrounded with many hotels, shops, clubs, restaurants and food stalls.
On this street is also located Fort Vredeburg, a former colonial fortress.
And in front of it is Gedung Agung, the president’s palace.
One of the symbols of Yogyakarta – Tugu Monument is situated in the center of downtown.
The real reason why everybody’s coming here are two temples.
Borobudur and Prambanan
Borobudur is a Buddhist temple complex from the 8th-century.
This is one of world’s truly great ancient monuments.
And single largest Buddhist structure anywhere on earth.
Prambanan is a Hindu complex dating from the 9th-century.
This is a collection of massive temples dedicated to Shiva, Vishnu and Brahma.
Both Borobudur and Prambanan are listed by UNESCO as World Heritage Sites and being of special cultural significance.
If you are an adventurer, a nature lover You will fall in love with
Goa Jomblang one of the natural highlights of Jogja.
The Cave is 50m deep, has 300m alley and magnificent 90m light pillar.
It’s exiting and also safe for the first-timer caver.
As cavers are handled by professionals.

Travel Indonesia - Temples of Yogyakarta, Indonesia
There are many temples in Yogyakarta, Indonesia; these are just two.
I visited these temples with my second host family (the little boy you see is my host brother). The first temple is known as Candi Tara, Candi Kalibening or Candi Kalasan, candi meaning temple. When we first arrived, I read the information at the site about the temple. The text said the temple was Buddhist but to me, the carvings and statues looked more Hindu. When I got home, I researched the temple and it turns out it was made by Hindus for Buddhists. It is also the oldest Buddhist temple in Yogyakarta. Being that it is so old, its condition is poor, but that almost made visiting it more exciting. It was interesting to see it in this condition, rather than restored. There are many pieces of the temple which have been laid out beside it because it is unknown where they are supposed to go. It is like a puzzle. If you'd like to read more about this temple, you can do so here
The second temple is Candi Prambanan. This is a much more popular/well-known temple and is Hindu. Sadly, it started raining just as we arrived but luckily the rain quickly subsided. I've visited Prambanan before, but this time was different from last. When I visited, there were students working on drawings and paintings of ancient scenes. It was very cool and some of the artworks were truly incredible. Also, I'm not quite sure why there are deer at this temple...I didn't see them last time I went.
If you'd like to watch my previous video about it, you can do that here:

Indonesia-Jakarta
Jakarta is the capital and largest city of Indonesia.
Located on the northwest coast of Java, Jakarta is the country's economic, cultural and political centre, and with a population of 10,187,595 as of November 2011, it is the most populous city in Indonesia and in Southeast Asia, and is the thirteenth most populated city in the world. The official metropolitan area, known as Jabodetabek (a name formed by combining the initial syllables of Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang and Bekasi), is the second largest in the world, yet the metropolis's suburbs still continue beyond it. Jakarta is listed as a global city in the 2008 Globalization and World Cities Study Group and Network (GaWC) research. and has an area of 661 square kilometres (255 sq mi). This area has a population of well over 28 million, making it one of the world's largest conurbations in terms of number of inhabitants.
In 2011, Jakarta ranked 17th among the world's 200 largest cities, a jump from its 2007 ranking of 171. Jakarta has grown more rapidly than Kuala Lumpur, Beijing and Bangkok.
Established in the fourth century, the city became an important trading port for the Kingdom of Sunda. It was the de facto capital of the Dutch East Indies (known as Batavia at that time) and has continued as the capital of Indonesia since the country's independence was declared in 1945.
The city is the seat of the ASEAN Secretariat. Jakarta is served by the Soekarno--Hatta International Airport, Halim Perdanakusuma International Airport, and Tanjung Priok Harbour; it is connected by several intercity and commuter railways, and served by several bus lines running on reserved busways.
Most of the visitors attracted to Jakarta are domestic tourists from all over Indonesia. As the gateway of Indonesia, Jakarta often serves as the stop-over for foreign visitors on their way to Indonesian popular tourist destinations such as Bali and Yogyakarta. Other than attracted to monuments, landmarks, and museums around Merdeka square and Jakarta Old Town, tourist attractions include Taman Mini Indonesia Indah, Ragunan Zoo, Sunda Kelapa old port and the Ancol Dreamland complex on Jakarta Bay, including Dunia Fantasi theme park, Sea World, Atlantis Water Adventure, and Gelanggang Samudra.
Tourism is contributing a growing amount of income to the city. In 2012, the tourism sector contributed 2.6 trillion rupiah (US$268.5 million) to the city's total direct income of 17.83 trillion rupiah, a 17.9 per cent increase over 2011. Tourism stakeholders are expecting greater marketing of the Jakarta as a tourism destination.Wikipedia
