aava Resort Khanom Thailand Interview with Kati Hakkinen at TTM+ - HD
The luxurious aava Resort & Spa in Khanom, Thailand, is no stranger to the annual Thailand Travel Mart (TTM+) and has attended the last nine, including the most recent edition in Jomtien, Pattaya in early June.
As the Tourism Authority of Thailand decided that the theme of TTM+ 2019 was ‘New Shades of Emerging Destinations’, Steven Howard of TravelNewsAsia.com took the opportunity to sit down with the owner of the aava Resort and ask her about the property and Khanom as an emerging tourist destination.
In this exclusive interview, filmed on the first day of TTM+ 2019, Kati Hakkinen explains where Khanom is in Thailand, why it is suitable as a tourist destination, and what is the best way to travel there.
You will also discover what makes the aava Resort special, how the room categories differ, what expansion plans they have, what the beach is like, whether there is any diving in the area, and how and when guests can see pink dolphins.
We also talk about where her guests are coming from and which markets the property is targeting for 2019 and beyond, how long guests are staying for, what there is to do around the hotel, and how Katti would like to see Khanom's tourism development grow in a sustainable way. All that and much, much more in the video and podcast below.
Secret Beaches Thailand
Secret Beaches Thailand
The Best SECRET BEACHES in Thailand. The beaches that tourists are not told about, but I will.
Thailand is full of wonderful beaches and islands, that thousands of tourists visit each year.
However there are many beaches in Thailand, that are mainly kept off of the tourist map.
Many of these beaches are well known by Thai's but very rarely visited by foreign tourists.
Today I feature Hat Nang Ram which is run by The Royal Thai Navy.
It was school holidays on the day we visited and it was very busy with school children.
Weekends are also busy with Thai locals, but on other visits midweek it was very peaceful with just a scattering of people in the sea.
Thai people do not like the sunshine so they tend to visit the beach in the late afternoon, rather than in the hottest prime time that us foreigners love.
On average the spilt between Thai and foreigners on any visit will be a minimum of 1 to 100. This beach really isn't known to foreigners.
This 200-meter long beach is situated close to the Sattahip deep-water port and attracts tourists who admire pristine beaches in serene settings.
Located towards the end of the beach is the shrine of Kromluang Chumphonkhetudomsak, the Father of the Royal Thai Navy.
The atmosphere is very peaceful with shadowy pine trees and rows of frangipani trees.
There many small stalls selling very cheap delicious food and drink, mats and beach chairs for rental also. There is also large restaurant at the start of the beach area.
The water is very warm, clean and clear and the sand powdery smooth.
As this area is run and managed by the Thai Army and Navy visitors are charged for entry at 20 Baht for locals and 80 Baht for foreign tourists, children are normally free.
Sattahip is around 200 KM from Bangkok and about 45 min drive from the nearest major town of Pattaya.
Note also to Drone Flyers be very careful flying a drone in this area, it has a large Navy and Army presence, I just got lucky.
Thanks for stopping by my channel.

Best Things To Do And See in Chiang Mai Thailand
Here are some of the best things to do and see in Chiang Mai in Thailand. Commonly referred to as Thailand’s second city, Chiang Mai is a vibrant, colourful hotspot to visit for some of Thailand’s finest street markets, Thai street food, temples and scenery and is a quieter, smaller yet fascinating variation from Bangkok with its own charms.
As a tourist to Thailand, you wouldn’t want to miss out on this city and if you are a backpacker, you can find cheap dorms ($3) and hostels rooms starting around 6$ in this city way cheaper than in the more tourist rich areas of the country further south such as Koh Samui. Indeed, it forms an integral part of the backpacker’s trail, especially if you are trying to do things on a budget yet want to get that authentic cultural and insightful stay.
Backpacking in Thailand can be one of the safest and cheapest of travel experiences and is a good starting place on the map for any budding backpacker. Nearby in the north of Thailand are the other great destinations of Pai and Chiang Rai, all offering something different as they are inland destinations rather than the tourist heavy destinations of South Thailand – Bangkok, Koh Phangang, Pattaya, Phuket and Koh Lipe, Koh Lanta and the other beach resorts of Thailand. As well as the special temple at Wat Doi Suthep which contains the famous golden seated Buddha and can be reached by hiking the hills or via a traditional songthaew. ANother famous but ruined temple is Wat Chedi Luang founded in 1401 – a unique air of mystery surrounds this place and it shouldn’t be missed.
The Chiang Mai Gate Market is an absolute must for the best in Thai street food and market experience, especially at night as is the Sunday walking street starting at Thapae Gate. Don’t miss out on some of the best Thailand nightlife in these areas which are packed with bars and clubs after you’ve eaten.
If you want to see elephants being treated humanely, ethically and in sustainable ways on your visit to inland Thailand, one of the best places to see them is at the Elephant Nature Park (ENP) near Chiang Mai.
Getting out of the city yields beautiful trekking country in the hills where you’ll often come across tribes, waterfalls, Lakes and lakehouses such as at Mae Ngat Dam.

There are different night markets open every night of the week in Phuket and there are 2 in Kamala Beach. Thai food markets and night markets are one of the best places to buy fresh and authentic Thai food while you travel in Thailand. There are loads of Thai food markets & night markets all over Thailand. At the markets you'll find so much Thai cuisine on offer & the food here is cheap, and so tasty! Thai food has been heavily influenced by Chinese food so you will find lots of familiar flavours.
And in case you’re worried, eating Thai street food is safe. It’s what the locals eat and it is cooked fresh and sold quickly. I’ve been eating it nearly daily since 2012 in Thailand and my friends who have been to visit and tour Thailand have all eaten it, and none of us have had any problems. You’ll find street food on many street corners in Thailand, be it in Phuket, Bangkok, Pattaya, Hua Hin or Krabi and at all of the markets. Thai street food is some of the best Thai food you’ll find in Thailand!

Krabi is about 2-3 hours from Phuket by land or sea, and has world class accommodation standards comparable to what you find in Phuket hotels and resorts, but in a more relaxed environment.
If you're looking into Thailand Hotels have a look at hotels and resorts in Krabi. The islands and beaches of Krabi are famous for Thailand holidays, the movie The Beach was filmed on Krabi's Koh Phi Phi Island.
