Getting a SAK YANT TATTOO in Chiang Mai, Thailand 2019
Book a Sak Yant Tattoo Tour here:
Yants are an integral part of Thai culture. You see these magical symbols everywhere; on amulets, in taxis, storefronts, and etched in skin.
Sak means to tap, and Sak Yant tattooing is the process of getting any of the thousands of sacred symbols tapped into your skin with magical ink. In this Thailand travel vlog, a leave from Bangkok to travel north to Chiang Mai to join a Sak Yant Tattoo tour with Where Sidewalks End. This is a special type of traditional tattoo. Why getting a bamboo tattoo done by hand poke style is very common. This is much more sacred.
Previous to this experience, I visited a very famous tattoo temple called Wat Bang Phra just outside of Bangkok, Thailand. Here, the famous Wai Kru Tattoo festival happens every year, Thousands of devotees return to this location to honor their Ajarn, and to recharge the power of their Sak Yants. I received my Gao Yord thai tattoos there.
In Chiang Mai Ajarn Rung gives me the Paed Tidt tattoo, along with the Silver Tongue Magpies. The 8 directions enchantments means many things, but above all, safety while travelling. The magpies, make your speech more influential. Both solid enchantments for any travel vlogger.

How to Travel from Bangkok to Koh Samui
Fly from Bangkok to Surat Thani and Ferry to Koh Samui.
In this episode, I say goodbye to the city of Bangkok and will fly from Don Mueang International Airport as one of the two Bangkok international airports to Surat Thani Province in southern Thailand. My ultimate destination on this trip is an island on the west of the gulf of Thailand called Koh Samui.
Koh Samui is an island off the east coast of the Kra Isthmus, Thailand. Geographically in the Chumphon Archipelago, it is part of Surat Thani Province.
I could fly directly from Bangkok to Koh Samui; but I rather chose an alternative route which is cheaper and more existing since I can get to see more of beautiful country of Thailand from ground.
At first, after exploring the beautiful city of Bangkok for couple of days, I fly from Bangkok to Surat Thani International Airport which is a very small airport and the airplane literally pulled over next to the only building of the terminal. From there after sleeping for a night in Surat Thani, I took a bus next morning to the ferry port at Don Sak Sakon Port. I was able to ride a ferry which was a very pleasant ride to Koh Samui.

Meet Thailand’s renowned tattoo master, Ajarn Noo Kanpai. People from around the world travel to Bangkok to seek his blessings and the spiritual powers of an ancient tattoo art called sak yant. Using yantras, geometric designs inscribed with Buddhist psalms and prayers, sak yants are believed to offer protection to the wearer. Originating thousands of years ago, sak yants were once tattooed by monks on warriors to keep them safe during battle.
After leaving the monkhood himself to further pursue the art of sak yant, Noo began his own tattoo samnak, institute, where he shares his philosophies and continues to tattoo people the traditional way by piercing the skin with a sharpened bamboo stick dipped in ink. One of Noo’s most popular tattoos is the hae taew, a five row yantra, which he designed. Each row represents a line of sacred Buddhist scripture.
