It wasn't always the town's name, though—in the 1860s, the name was developed as a way to entice tourists to make the town a stop on their travels. It's an amalgamation of the Welsh words and names for local landmarks, and it's probably the best PR stunt of the 1860s—or today. So yeah, welcome to Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwyllllantysiliogogogoch! You don't need to be able to say it to enjoy your stay.

Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch is a large village and community on the island of Anglesey in Wales, situated on the Menai Strait next to the Britannia Bridge and across the strait from Bangor. It has the longest place name in Europe and one of the longest place names in the world. The short form of the name is Llanfairpwllgwyngyll or Llanfair Pwllgwyngyll. It is commonly known as Llanfair PG or Llanfairpwll.
At the 2001 census the population of the community was 3,040,[1] 76% of whom speak Welsh fluently; the highest percentage of speakers is in the 10--14 age group, where 97.1% speak Welsh.[citation needed] It is the sixth largest settlement on the island by population.
Visitors stop at the railway station to be photographed next to the station sign, visit the nearby Visitors' Centre, or have 'passports' stamped at a local shop. Another tourist attraction is the nearby Marquess of Anglesey's Column, which at a height of 27 metres (89 ft) offers views over Anglesey and the Menai Strait. Designed by Thomas Harrison, the monument celebrates the heroism of Henry Paget, 1st Marquess of Anglesey at the Battle of Waterloo.

The long form of the name is the longest officially recognised place name in the United Kingdom and one of the longest in the world at 58 characters (51 letters since ch and ll are digraphs, or single letters, in the Welsh language).
The name means: [St.] Mary's Church (Llanfair) [in] the hollow (pwll) of the white hazel (gwyngyll) near (goger) the rapid whirlpool (y chwyrndrobwll) [and] the church of [St.] Tysilio (llantysilio) with a red cave ([a]g ogo goch).
This village was originally known as Llanfair Pwllgwyngyll (and is sometimes still referred to as Llanfairpwllgwyngyll) and was given its long name in the 19th century in an attempt to develop it as a commercial and tourist centre (see Significance of the name below). The village is still signposted Llanfairpwllgwyngyll, marked on Ordnance Survey maps as Llanfair Pwllgwyngyll and known to locals as Llanfairpwll or Llanfair.
The name is also shortened to Llanfair PG, which is sufficient to distinguish it from the many other Welsh villages with Llanfair in their names. Other variant forms use the full name but with tysilio mutated to dysilio, and/or with a hyphen between drobwll and llan. In Welsh, the initial Ll may be mutated to a single L in some contexts.

The City of Carlisle is a local government district of Cumbria, England, with the status of a city and non-metropolitan district. It is named after its largest settlement, Carlisle, aka Carlizzle, but covers a far larger area which includes the towns of Brampton and Longtown, as well as outlying villages including Dalston, Scotby and Wetheral. The city has a population of 107,524 and an area of 1,039.97 square kilometres (402 sq mi), making it the largest city in England by area (although the majority of its territory is not urbanised, but rural).
The current city boundaries were set as part of the provisions of the Local Government Act 1972, and cover an amalgamation of two former local government districts—the City and County Borough of Carlisle and the Border Rural District of Cumberland. The City of Carlisle shares a border with Scotland (to the north), and is bounded on the southwest by the borough of Allerdale, and on the south by the district of Eden. The county of Northumberland is to the east.
Although the present boundaries date to the 20th century, the city traces its origins to a 1st-century Roman outpost associated with Hadrian's Wall. The Brythonic settlement that expanded from this outpost was destroyed by the Danes in 875. Thereafter the region formed part of the Southern Uplands of Scotland, until colonised under King William II of England in 1092. William II built Carlisle Castle, which houses a military museum. Carlisle Cathedral, founded in the 12th century, is one of the smallest in England.
A border city, and the second most northerly city in England, Carlisle predominantly spans the flood plain of the River Eden. Commercially, it is linked to the rest of England via the M6 motorway, and to the Scottish Lowlands via the A74(M) and M74 motorways.

Hereford is a cathedral city, civil parish and county town of Herefordshire, England. It lies on the River Wye, approximately 16 miles east of the border with Wales, 24 miles southwest of Worcester, and 23 miles northwest of Gloucester.
The name Hereford is said to come from the Anglo-Saxon here, an army or formation of soldiers, and the ford, a place for crossing a river. If this is the origin it suggests that Hereford was a place where a body of armed men forded or crossed the Wye. The Welsh name for Hereford is Henffordd, meaning old road, and probably refers to the Roman road and Roman settlement at nearby Stretton Sugwas. Much of the county of Herefordshire was Welsh-speaking, as reflected in the Welsh names of many places in the county (see History of Herefordshire).
An early town charter from 1189 granted by Richard I of England describes it as Hereford in Wales. Hereford has been recognised as a city since time immemorial, with the status being reconfirmed as recently as October 2000.
Hereford is served by a 4-platform railway station on the Welsh Marches Line which opened in 1854. Services regularly connect to Worcester, Birmingham, London, Manchester, Cardiff and other settlements in Wales. The station is currently operated by Arriva Trains Wales. A second station, Hereford Barton, was closed and later redeveloped. A new station is proposed for construction in the government-designated Enterprise zone in Rotherwas, south of the River Wye.

1. Be Back on the Boat on Time. Many bigger cruise ships will not wait for late passengers and it will be the passengers job to catch up to the boat at the next port of call, which can be expensive.
2. Do Your Research. Not every cruise is the same even if they visit the same ports. Make sure you do your research on what amenities the ship has, what kind of entertainment, the cabins, the typical passengers, etc.
3. Cabins Will Be Small. So pack light and you may want to bring some air freshener to take care of some of those tight confine smells.
4. Seasickness Happens. On river cruises seasickness is not a big issue, however on bigger ships it may be. Ginger, Dramamine, seabands and a patch can help.
5. You will eat a lot on the cruise ship and you will eat well. Most cruise ships know that people love to eat and they make it their job to feed you as much as possible. Try to watch what you eat and maybe take a walk or two around the deck after dinner.
6. Pack Your Carryon Bag with Everything You Will Need for the First Day. On larger cruise ships you may not get your luggage for a few hours, so make sure you have everything you need in your carryon bag, whether it is swimsuits for the pool or medicine it is important to pack those in your carryon bag.
7. Don't Forget to Tip the Help. They do not get paid much and they work their butts off, so please do tip them. Your cruise line may already have it in your bill or they may leave an envelope for you to tip.
8. Don't Bring Anything That Could Start a Fire. There are some things that are usually banned from ships and they mostly are related to heating agents that could start a fire. Also, some ships ban alcohol from outside the ship as well, also weapons and drugs are no nos.
9. There Are Always Extra Costs. Whether signing up for excursions or a drinks package or whatever, there are usually extra costs on cruises, so the price you are quoted on may not be the end of your bill.
10. Ask for Help if You Need Anything. Cruise ships really do go out of their way to make your trip enjoyable, so if you have any issues or requests please let the crew know. They will most likely be glad to help.
