How can that be that the inhabitants of an island in the Mediterranean sea fear each other so much that they are separated from each other by the last wall of Europe, for 38 years already. What is wrong in Cyprus?
Bram Vermeulen travels Along the borders of Turkey. With the Europe collapsing on one hand and shattering regimes in the Arab world on the other hand, the Turkish influence in these regions will grow. Here the new power relations around the Mediterranean are being drawn. In this exploration conducted by Bram Vermeulen, we learn as much about the Turks as we do about ourselves. The boundaries make the countries and not the other way around. Borders define the country: this is where our domain ends and the domain of others begins. Turkey is a border country. A country that defines itself as cramping from its contrast with its neighbors. Turkey is non-Greek, non-Russian, non-Arabic. Turkey is the twilight zone between the Middle East and Europe.
Bram Vermeulen travels in four episodes Along the borders of Turkey. Here the new power relations around the Mediterranean are being drawn. Big developments with huge consequences for the people living there. Vermeulen enters the twilight zones: Greece, Cyprus, Syria and Iraq, looking for the actual dividing lines between these neighboring countries.

In Pesmes you still find the atmosphere of the Middle Ages. The capital of Franche-Comté is Besançon. Many tourists have seen those big letters on a road sign on their way to the south. It is worthwhile barging in, especially for those who love old architecture as they can supplement their wish list here.
The production of open-pan salt, from the Great Saltworks of Salins-les-Bains to the Royal Saltworks of Arc-et-Senans, was placed on the list of World Heritage Sites in 1982 because of its exceptional cultural value. Claude Nicholas Ledoux, the master of symmetry, designed the complex as a kind of ideal city, one where living and working flowed seamlessly one into another.
Officially designated by UNESCO as World Heritage Site, this site is to be safeguarded for the future as a testimony to its enduring past.

Wallace's standardwing - The Beagle
We’re off again, sailing for months along the coasts of South America. Now we’re on our way to The Galapagos. A Mecca for every naturalist. An island of dreams made of reason. Darwin’s reason – where the foundations for his greatest discovery were laid. A teenage dream come true for Redmond O’Hanlon.
Next, O’Hanlon leaves the clipper briefly to fly to Indonesia - in search of the story of Darwin’s greatest rival - the man who technically takes priority for the theory of evolution by natural selection - Alfred Russell Wallace. The journey is made in order to find the most desirable of all the birds of paradise - because it is the only one that Wallace discovered: the standardwing also known as Wallace’s standardwing.
On the island of Tahiti the clipper is rejoined, in time for the great crossing of the Pacific Ocean. Astonishingly, our planet is composed of 70% water. This water is more important to us than anyone could imagine. We humans have much more in common with other life forms than Wallace or Darwin could have thought… if we take care of the oceans, we take care of ourselves…

This voyage was the most important journey ever made. Hundreds of thousands of birds, dolphins all coming racing to the ship. Plancton coming in from the plankton recorder, enormous tracks of the megatherium. The Galapagos was a paradise. It’s just the strangest most wonderful feeling to walk amongst these animals and birds and not feel an intruder. They like you, they don’t mind. It’s all just too special for words. An unforgettable experience for the passengers of the ship – and for viewers of the programme.
