Lincolnshire Wolds Railway

Ludborough is a village and civil parish in the East Lindsey district of Lincolnshire, England. It is situated approximately 5 miles north from Louth, and at the eastern end of the A18 road. Ludborough has a population of 191 people. The Prime Meridian passes to the east of the village.

The Lincolnshire Wolds Railway Signals and Telecommunications Department is a railway department on the preserved heritage railway in Lincolnshire, England. It installs, maintains and repairs all the signalling and telecommunications on the LWR. Based primarily at Ludborough, the department looks after the railways two functioning signal boxes at Ludborough and North Thoresby.

The railway line at Ludborough originally opened in 1848 and was part of the Great Northern Grimsby to Boston route.
Up until 1970, trains would frequently pass through to many destinations, including London and the Midlands.
After the withdrawal of passenger services, the section between Grimsby and Louth was kept open for freight trains for a further ten years.
Following closure, all the track and ballast was taken up, most of the station buildings were demolished and the line abandoned. However this was not the end. In 1980 a preservation society was formed with the aim of restoring the line and a dedicated group of volunteers set about bringing the railway back to life.
The station, platforms and signal box at Ludborough have been rebuilt, the track has been relayed and steam trains now travel to North Thoresby.
At Ludborough there is a museum which has a fine collection of railwayana to remind you of days gone by.
You can also become a steam train driver for the day.

Great Western Railway (GWR) 6000 Class 6023 King Edward II is a preserved steam locomotive.
The locomotive was built at GWR's Swindon works in June 1930. For most of its working life it was allocated to Newton Abbott and Laira (Plymouth). It was withdrawn from Cardiff in June 1962, and was sent to Swindon for breaking up.
6023 was built for the GWR in 1930, coming into use in June of that year and in accordance with the intended use of the King class of loco spent most of its working life based in the West Country in order to tackle expresses over the Devon banks. In July it was allocated to Newton Abbott loco shed, where it was based until November 1936, when it was re-allocated to briefly to Plymouth Laira, from whence it returned in December. It then continued to work out of Newton Abbott shed until February 1949, after which it was sent again to Laira until August 1956, when it moved to London's Old Oak Common depot - covering expresses to Wolverhampton. Its final months in BR service from September 1960 to withdrawal in June 1962 were spent at Cardiff's Canton shed, serving London trains. 6023's final mileage was 1,554,201 miles.
