Von Didima kommend treffen im Süden bei Achladitsa auf das Meer. Wir fahren die Küste entlang, vorbei an der Insel Hydra, bis Galatas gegenüber der Insel Poros.
Poros gehört zu den beliebten Ausflugszielen der Athener, da es über das Meer rasch erreichbar ist. Aber auch kleine Kreuzfahrtschiffe legen hier gerne an. Die Insel liegt in einem seismisch aktiven Gebiet und die nahegelegenen Vulkane auf der Halbinsel Methana und im saronischen Golf können jederzeit wieder ausbrechen.
Am Eingang der Halbinsel Methana befindet sich der gleichnamige Ort, der für seine schwefelhaltigen Thermalquellen berühmt ist. Sie sind ca. 230 v.Chr. nach einem heftigen Vulkanausbruch entstanden. Die Insel besitzt steil abfallende Flanken und die Straßen sind nur mäßig ausgebaut. Über Schotterpisten erreichen wir den ruhenden Hauptvulkan. Die ursprüngliche Landschaft eignet sich gut für Wanderungen.
Außer grasenden Ziegen gibt es auch antike Artefakte zu entdecken, wie der Fund einer mykenischen Siedlung 1990 beweist.

Coming from Didyma we reach the sea near the town of Achladitsa. We drive along the coast, past the island of Hydra to Galatas opposite to the island of Poros.
Poros is one of the popular destinations of the Athenians, because the island is easy accessible by boat. Small cruise ships land here as well. The island is located in a seismically active region and the nearby volcanoes on the peninsula of Methana and the Saronic Gulf can erupt again at any time.
At the entrance of the Methana peninsula you find the town of the same name which is famous for its sulfurous thermal springs. It arose after a violent volcanic eruption about 230 BC. The island has steep flanks and the streets are developed moderately. Over gravel pistes we reach the dormant central volcano. The unspoilt landscape is ideal for hiking and sometimes you might encounter grazing goats.
This area was settled already in the Neolithic Age and ancient artifacts were found here. In 1990, a Mycenaean settlement was excavated.

Monemvasia (Greek: Μονεμβασία) is a town and a municipality in Laconia, Greece. The town is located on a small island off the east coast of the Peloponnese. The island is linked to the mainland by a short causeway 200m in length. Its area consists mostly of a large plateau some 100 metres above sea level, up to 300 m wide and 1 km long, the site of a powerful medieval fortress. The town walls and many Byzantine churches remain from the medieval period. The seat of the municipality is the town Molaoi.
The town's name derives from two Greek words, mone and emvasia, meaning single entrance. Its Italian form, Malvasia, gave its name to Malmsey wine. Monemvasia's nickname is the Gibraltar of the East or The Rock.
